Wolves talk to Thomas Hitzlsperger

Thomas Hitzlsperger has held talks with Wolves – but it remains to be seen whether he will sign for the club.

The former Villa midfielder was at Molineux for discussions with manager Mick McCarthy yesterday but the man nicknamed ‘Der Hammer’-  for his ferocious shot – left without signing or having a medical.

A free agent after activating a relegation clause in his three-year contract at West Ham at the end of the season, Hitzlsperger is also the subject of interest from Fulham and Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers and he wants to speak to them first.

And McCarthy, who wants Liverpool youngster Jay Spearing on a season-long loan, is still looking at different signing options and Hitzlsperger fits his criteria of having Premier League experience.

Just eight days ago, the 29-year-old escaped a driving ban after claiming he needed his car to drive around the country to look for a new club.

Instead, Hitzlsperger was fined £750 and was given six penalty points by Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court, after driving his Range Rover at 107mph.

    Ey oop, numpties.

Now let us put this left back question to bed once and for all. We don’t need one. Simple as. Wardy and G-Unit have got it covered. Proper grafters both of ‘em. More than capable of putting in a decent shift down there.

As for another midfielder? Love ‘em. Love ‘em, me. You can never have enough midfield grafters warming the bench. Keeps the boys out on t’park on their toes. Graft levels drop, off they come and one of the bench warmers might get a run out. If I ain’t been able to shoe horn Wardy in there, that is.

Roll on August 13th, I’m fairly raring to get right into a good old ding dong relegation battle, me. Got them Spaniards first, mind. All technical ability and flair, but where is t’graft? I mean, who ever heard of a Spaniard putting in a decent shift?

Before I go and give the lads a good shift to get stuck into, thought I’d tell you I got Jezza in the hot seat after another midfield benchwarmer (see above). His name is even an anagram of putzashiftin!

Regardless of who he ends up playing for, this decision stinks. He should have been banned – just like anyone else from any other walk of life. He chose to put himself out of work by taking up the relegation clause in his contract with West Ham so the need to drive around looking for work is immaterial.

What an example to set, huh?

    Disgraceful.

Merlin I think we need a player who’s name is an anagram of I Love Wolves.. Find me one of them, or another John De Wolf and I will be happy.

I still feel we need another striker, besides a central midfielder.. I must admit I am impressed with Danny Batth, he outshone Jody Craddock at the Walsall match for me, so we are alright for central defenders.. Not sure about left backs, though. Let’s hope Mick finds what we need.

Is he really what we want to replace Henry? im not so sure. Think he will get 10 games a year at most. Just not worth it in my opinion. spend the money on a left back first. If we have more money then yes strengthen everywhere else. Im sure that if we spent 50 million, then we could all find the weakest player, and want a better one. weakest position now????? We have added ONE player to our team that escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth.
As good as Johnson is, he needs help at the back and it ain’t gonna come from Berra.
As you all know O’Hara was here last season and helped to keep us up.

Oh no, not another one who might want more than the minimum wage? Surely the scouts have been round Ireland and found at least one or two village teams with reserves that need more game time?

After all, it’s so much cheaper to get them on loan than invest in quality people like the Hoff, Halford, Moyoukolo etc.

No. 1 comment from No.1 poster. Love or hate his angle,it’s highly amusing and not so far from the truth. See we went to sleep on Lee Wallace. Good move there from the back room staff. Does the manager seriously believe we can go another season with the left back situation left out of the permutations? Oh I forgot, we’ve got Stephen Ward. Even so it’s a huge amount of expectation to put on the new boy Johnson. Oh dear Oh dear.

Hitzlsperger is a very good player and Spearing played a lot of games for a successful Liverpool side under Dalglish. Does this mean that someone out of the midfield area might be on his way? We have some deadwood here and must get rid of players like Maierhofer and Keogh as soon as! We definitely need a left back but irrespective – with a player like Johnson – he is bound to have big influences on the likes of Zubar, Batth, Stearman, Berra, Elokobi and Ward! We know what we need but once again need to point out that MM has to work within the strict wage structures. People have suggested the likes of Wayne Bridge in the past? It will not happen.
Can so called Wolves fans stop moaning and having digs on here at the players and management? It only gives the likes of Jack the Hat and we only need one half, a bit of ammunition. I do how ever have sympathy with Morgan about the wage bill of players we should move on, there dosen’t appear many clubs interested in our failed signings, which proves how bad they were and have landed us with the problem. 2.3M for the Hoff is just one.

We need to buy a LB now as if we don’t it just knocks the purchase back to the January transfer window(inflated prices) or to next summer (higher prices) IMO Batth being marshelled by Johnson would be a great pairing and Zubar at RB seals up the centre and right flank.

crowfish – I remember reading your comment and think that the response was a little over the top..

But as for you saying that its just E+S speculation, so is the speculation that we have to sell before bringing any new players in. All our transfer activity is speculation as the club dont release any news until its happened. As for Mick saying hes happy with the squad, what would you expect him to say? If he says the squad isnt good enough, not only would it have a negative impact on our current players who have helped us survive for 2 seasons in a row but would also have a negative impact with the fans if we do end up not being able to sign anyone else.

As for our friendlies, its common practice for early friendlies to be soley for match sharpness and fitness, Very little is done tactically, and you will probably see a more full strength team playing together in our later friendlies closer to the season.

Basically what im saying is you may or may not be wrong as different managers work in different ways, and who knows what the best method is, but i think you did have some interesting points.

I think its pretty naive to say that we arent any better off than last season apart from Johnson. First off, all our players have yet another year of prem experience which will no doubt help.

Next we have a quality keeper who helped get his team promoted, who could easily challenge Wayne for a first team place. I dont think he was bought in just for back up and doubt he would have signed for us if that was the case. Why leave 1 prem club for another if he knew he wasnt going to play?

And finally, even though we had O’Hara last season, we need to remember that we only had him for half a season and he had just come back from an injury. I think its safe to say that he will be an even better player having a pre season under his belt.

To put things into perspective of how much better we could do with a fully fit O’hara for a full season heres some interesting stats. Without O’hara we averaged 0.88 points per game which would have seen us finnish on around 33 points and we would have been easily relegated. With O’hara, we averaged 1.38 points which had we had him all season, would have seen us finish on 52 points. Now im not saying we will finnish on 52 points this coming season just because we have him for a full season, but the stats clearly show that he has the potential to get us mid table playing him for the majority of the season. So anyone saying that the perminant signing of O’hara wont improve our season is clearly deluded.

lets do it.. . . sign sign sigh. . .

this time meets the ‘premier league experience tag’ not the young and hungry one, but comedy aside, we should get this done. what a coup if we do!

also this is based on the assumption that a LB is a given and i am sure there are negotiations going on in the background. . .

p.s. why dont we get some mutual terminations for some others we cant see? or give them, away for nothing to free up the wage bill (if we just cant sell them)?

62 Baggie – It may have escaped your attention but nowehre did i say a full pre season. Its only a slight niggle and he is already back in training so yes he will get a pre season under his belt. I would be more concerned with the news that your after hargreaves, do any of you seriously think that he will ever get fully injury free again. It would be understandable if his injury problems only started occuring while he was at Man utd, but he has been injury plagued his entire professional career.

If you aren’t happy with Stephen Ward playing for Wolves get ready to be unhappy again next season…..but do us all a favour and learn to live with it! SW is an International experienced Premiership footballer, exactly the criteria we are looking to recruit!

Its pretty clear that the 3Ms are still looking to get players in so passing comment on or current squad strength (and limitations) is pointless

As a person who has got away with doin over 100mph on the M5, because of i pleaded it would affect my work i have every sympathy with him. He oviously wasn’t driving dangeoursly or he would have been banned, its good to know that Magistrates have a bit of common sense now and then.

August 13th is still a while away so give the 3Ms a break. DANN want’s 35 grand per week which is around what we are paying Johnson. Pay 8 million for Dann and PX a couple of the not needed players on our books and we have got the CB situation sorted for the next 3 years. They’ve played together for the last two seasons and know everything about each other. We can get a LB on loan if there’s no more cash available and we still have movement left for a loan midfielder or a couple of freebees.

You all doubted O’Hara coming a few weeks ago and now ya moaning about “no more signings” lol get a grip and be patient! :)

As for Hitzlesperger I personally wouldnt mind him being in our ranks but think Fulham will be the club he chooses as they will pay the wages we won’t – besides i think he biding his time in hope Villa come in for him as he has stated in press he would hope to return there.

Maybe if we off loaded edwards we could accomodate him in our squad. He is a decent player and bags goals. Seriously concerned with the left back situation though, with ward and elokobi we are facing an uphill battle. Berra our left sided centre half will always be pulled out of position to cover them as will any other centre half we sign. We MUST solve this problem or really were no better off than last season.

New blood is required or we will get more of the same, which has been shown by the first two matches, I don’t care what team we put out if we conceed goals against these sides like we did, we will surely conceed once the season starts.

100 miles an hour is automatically classed as dangerous driving, which is why the default sentence is an automatic ban.

I would suggest that knowing this, and not being content to break the law by a mere 25 miles an hour as 95 is too slow, consideration should be given to allowing more time for your journeys in future…

What are we doing to sign a left back and a partner for Johnson??
Yes I know Craddock will do a good job, but we need competition and to cover injuries. We also need a player to replace Craddock when the time comes.
I dont mention berra or stearman as i dont think either has improved enough over 2 seasons to be able play at this level consistently well.
we also need another striker and a defensive midfielder to challenge Henry, who is limited on the ball.

If the remaining cash in the transfer war chest is prioritised for transfers and wages for players we need then IMO Hitzelsperger is well down the list. Yes he’s got a hell of a dig on him but O’Hara and Guediora, and Milijas if he’s still around, have too. There are positions we need to fill more urgently.
Agree with criticism of Magistrates over TH’s 107 mph. Looking for work is a poor excuse. He’s a foreign national, he had a job which he walked away from and he needs to thank God he didn’t end up like the Plymouth goalkeeper. There is no excuse, let his agent drive.

The emergence of academy players has been disappointing during Mick’s reign.I suppose we have to take the view that they haven’t been good enough or are not ready yet, but, it sounds as though David Davies has broken into the squad. He had some great reviews from Shrewsbury during his loan last season. Tomorrow may start to give us an idea what MM has in mind on formation.

Because the big clubs are spending meggabucks on players, it is inflating the prices elsewhere.
    (Simple Supply and demand).
However fans now treat an extra £1M here and there as chicken feed.
Smaller clubs like our own should stick to principles, as more and more Player saturation is occuring and bargains are beginning to appear.
Obviously crowd pleasing NOW is important but there has to be a balance, so there is a bright future.

Kenny was my Wolves hero as a kid in the 70′s and i bow to your superior knowledge that he was a mainly right footed midfielder (though as you say he did smash in some bostin left foot shots. Well guys Wallace is now at Rangers which dont leave too many names for us to go for that may be available…but Mr Carr? WHY?!?! So maybe Upson is on MM’s radar as a possibility. Also was hoping Batth be given a shot at first team – even as a sub to “blood” him in…as i hear so much good stuff about this guy n maybe he could be answer to our CB problem in time…just hope he aint wasted on loan all the time n ruin him like it seems to have done with Vokes…

Btw whatever happened to Zeki? (i probably got name wrong again lol) the young player we had (winger i think) that big clubs tried to snatch off our academy few years back…think he would be about 17 now?
