Mouyokolo could have Wolves future
Thursday 30th June 2011, 11:05AM BST.
Wolves will recoup their £2.5million outlay if Steven Mouyokolo leaves permanently – but the defender may still have a future at Molineux.
The 24-year-old returned to his native France yesterday on a season-long loan with top flight side FC Sochaux with a view to a permanent move.
Wolves also stress the departure of Mouyokolo doesn’t mean they are any closer to signing top target Matt Mills.
Mouyokolo cost £2.5million from Hull when he signed a four-year contract just over a year ago.
But the centre-back struggled with niggling injuries and failed to force his way into manager Mick McCarthy’s plans, making just two Premier League starts in a total of seven appearances in all competitions.
The speed of Mouyokolo’s unveiling in France yesterday afternoon following a medical surprised Wolves, given that the paperwork still hadn’t been completed last night.
But Wolves believe it is a move that suits all parties and are confident they will have a better player in 12 months’ time.

Just seen on some other fan sites that we’ve been linked with the former Sunderland captain Lorik Cana …. dont know if its true!!

Can’t see this myself……… think we need better options and if we could get 2.5 mil back i think the club would bite your arm off!
Defo need a new centre back (or 2) and I think Mills could be worth the punt. I have seen so many people knocking him on here but lets not forget Dann and Johnson were from outside of Prem, as was lescott , Richards back in the day so lets hope its a gem of a signing IF it ever comes off!

Hmmmmmm…. Very slow on Wolves incoming transfer news this week, I don’t like it. Heard that John Arne Reise is looking to cone back to the uk, could be worth a go if wages are reasonable

Sorry i thought we were ment to be bolstering up our deffence not lettig all of the go…
first manciene now mouyokolo !
so i hope we are close to signing someone and just telling E&S the oposite so they dont spread the word to other clubs…
… if there really not close to signing someone then god help us as we only have two recongnised centre halfs now and one of them is 36 and carnt be expected to play a full season.
STOP MESSING AROUND AND PAY THE MONEY !!
WHY ARE WE HAGGLIN WITH READING OVER 500,000 ? IF HE’S 4 MILLION THEN PAY 4 MILLION AND GET HIM IN !!!
WE HAVE MADE OVER 60 MILLION IN TV RIGHT SINCE IN THE PREM SO WHAT ARE WE MESSING ABOUT AT ??????

Never really had the chance to settle due to the injuries, so we never really got to see if he was up to the task.
If we recoup all of our outlay or he returns a better player then it’s a good move for everyone.
1. Can’t see Lorik Cana coming, i seem to remember the reason that he left Sunderland was because he couldn’t settle in England. This could have been wrong mind.

tell you what will happend with mouyokolo, will go out on loan to them, loan will finnish they will send him bk cos they wont pay 2.5 million for him, then we’ll flog him on the cheap cos he’ll only have 2 years on his contract and is injury prone and not good enough anyway….

I pray we have a least one replacement in mind, surely we are not daft enough to get rid without have a replacement, you look at mouyoloko 2.5 mil, halford 2 mil, surman 1.2mil, the hoff 1.8 mil, milijas (to an extent) 3mil, voles£??, hill £???, the other centre back who went to Norwich on the cheap, that’s alot of outlay for rubbish and weekly wages for this rabble must have been around £100,000 between them, I know mic has also brought well, but my point is, cmon, buy proven players if we want to make it up the table, granted fergie has brought some clowns at man u on big money, but as with Ohara, solid money for a solid player, u t w

OMG!! Mills Wolf its fans like you that are sooooo naive, i bet you want someone like Yeung or Ridsdale dont you.
Trot off we are a respectable well run club which will not pay over the odds for players.
Well it starts at £500,000 then the next club like Blues then expect you to pay £3-4 million over, theres £3.5 million you could have put to another player!! DOH!!

What I want to know is how much are the 3M`S really doing about new signings. They seem to want to dictate to other clubs on transfers etc.It is time we were getting new players in now,2xCentre-halves,1xLeft-back and probably another midfielder to partner O`Hara. We can`t keep waiting for cheap`os to appear,we made that mistake before and nearly went down.Try giving the fans something for a change Mr.Morgan instead of conning them all the time.

I would of thought Wolves would have had a signing or two lined up before approving this deal. That looks unlikely at the moment.
Like others have said surely it is worth paying a few million over the top now to get the players we want, than to let them slip through our grip.. Relegation will cost more than a few extra million to the club.. So please guys sort our defence out, so that we have a better chance next season.

Another poor defensive signing from Mick – latest in a long line of centre back failures. How many more is Mick going to sign before he gets it right? Stearman, Mancienne, Berra, Collins, Breen, Shackell, Zubar, Mouyokolo – all poor.
Two quality centre backs and we could be laughing next season with Flecther and Doyle banging them in upfront. But has Mick got the ability to spot a good centre half and will Jez pay the money??
Alternatively, could Ward put a shift in at centre back??

Bob Wolf – just thought I would point out you couldn’t stop slating Fletcher at the beginning of last season. You also dismissed him as Championship last week.
Now you reckon he will be banging them in. Which is it?

I’ve heard a lot on twitter this week about ptherclubs and there targets but as far as wolves are concerned, all I’ve heard is that Morgan expects a greT future ahead for wolves… Sounds like we are struggling to attract the players we are after and that Steve Morgan is trying to raise interest levels jn the club in order to attract them… I think we need to show a bit of cash as a statement of our ambitions in order to show players that we mean business, unfortunately I think that we live in times where if we appear to be keeping a tight grip on our finances, then others think we have no ambition or can’t afford to pay. It’s a proper Catch 22!
Mills Wolf – we are not meant to be bolstering the defence, we are meant to be improving it. Like many people have said on here, there are players that just arent good enough for the next stage of our progression, and its pointless holding onto them. I didnt see much of Mouyokolo to comment, but with him being injured throughout the season, im sure the best option would be to give him football elsewhere, to improve his game, in the event that we either keep him or sell him on.
I wouldnt be suprised to see a couple more players depart, I think Edwards may be one of those players and if the rumours are true, possibly Berra. Either way, i think its good news that we have let a few of our defenders go, as it almost gaurentees that we will be bringing in replacements for them, and hopefully these replacements will improve on what we already have.
Sorry Mills Wolf but the so called haggling you mention must be for a reason and my opinion is that Wolves don’t believe Mills is worth £4M!
Personally I think he is only worth a maximum of £3M, after all he is a Championship player with little if any PL experience and remember we came up with a defence from that division and we have been found wanting ever since.
Experienced PL defenders are needed and Wolves should be prepared to offer serious money to get them otherwise yet another season of relegation fighting will be in store and who wants another one of those?
I agree though that letting defenders leave before replacements have been brought in is plain stupid and it is hoped that McCarthy & co have lined up defenders who are considering what’s on the table and will sign very soon, otherwise….!

15) Total rubbish. Breen did a brilliant job for Wolves. Of the rest, Shackell and Mouyokolo contributed little or nothing but even Collins scored crucial goals to get us promoted. Let’s look at the other four?
Stearman – lacks consistency but still young and has the potential to be a quality defender
Mancienne – got called up to the England squad while at Wolves but right move not to sign him
Berra – put some great performances in against the big teams last season but may be on his way
Zubar – makes mistakes like Stearman but he is a good player
Mills, Johnson, Warnock please. Do not want Dunne under no circumstances.

The players you list have played their part in the rise of Wolverhampton Wanderers. I hope you’re not as ignorant about the next crop of players as we look to move upwards.

bob wolf, agree with you about poor signings, even though shackell has just been signed for 1 million and we get 10 percent as a sell on,
zubar is not as bad as the rest,
and in answer to your last question, ward will only play if we get too many injuries this season, and mm will sign 2xcentre half, 1x left back, and a new defensive midfielder to replace karl henry after july 1st…..
and jez will pay the money because, morgan has recently stated he will not tolerate another relegation dog fight, utw

24) Brummie Wolf, you seem to be angry with the world at the moment and disagreeing with every comment posted on here.
On a football issue, I think it would be foolish to let him go. We thought he was worth 2.5mill at some point and I can only recall him playing 1 game and we are short of defensive cover I think we should keep him. As far as Matt Mills if we can get him great but dont break the bank and if he does not want to come then thats fine as well.
Didn’t rate him when he was fit to play. I hope the Rangers interest in Berra is true and they follow it up with a bid – he’s even worse.
So who to bring in? Johnson and Dunne to steady the ship for a couple of years would be my choice. Lots of prem games between them would and hopefully bring on a couple of younger players. Not sure about Mills – he looks slow to me.
Anyone fancy Joey Barton to play alongside O’Hara?

We need someone like John Dewolf, if we signed someone like that, I am sure there would be a big buzz about the club.. Someone who can defend and chip in with the odd goal.. Someone who puts a bit of fear in the minds of the opposition..
Wishful thinking, but I remember when John Dewolf and Don Goodman signed together.. Thats what we need to send a good feeling through the ranks..

32) Not angry with the world at all. Cannot tolerate unjust slatings of the club or players though. As someone who went to all the league games last season, can I point this out:-
i) When in the last 30 years have you seen Wolves playing at the top level?
ii) When have you seen a situation that Wolves are debt free and even making significant ground improvements?
iii) Last season we stayed up by the skin of our teeth but had worse injuries than anyone else – Doyle, Zubar, Hunt, Guerdioura were out for many games – and conceded a stupid amount of late goals
iv) We have money to spend and are linked with exactly the right players so far
Report abuse
Surely, the only way Leicester can get Mills is by offering him more than Reading have supposedly done (£20k per wk)? I can’t see any other reason for him wanting to go to another Championship side, and, if he is keen to play in the Premiership, Wolves look the only bet at present …. but it’s early days yet!

31 teacher levels of stupidity?
As a striking teacher, just wandered what your knowledge is on our stance?
Yes I’m not happy about having £200000 taken from me over the forthcoming years, however, more concerning is the effect that 67 year old teachers would have on my children’s education. The energy and drive needed to be a quality teacher is beyond most 50 somethings, let alone those in their 60s.
Sorry to misuse this message board, but most teachers care deeply about the pupils they teach and agonised over taking strike action today. We also want a profession fit for purpose for future generations.

I dont understand the other article stating that leicester may hinder us in our bid for Mills. Didnt the player himself say that he wanted premier league football. He clarly respects the club hes currently at so im sure he wouldnt leave them for any club also outside the premier league. The premier teams around us may be a serious threat to his signature but i cant see him leaving for more championship football.

This player was well thought of at Hull and was one of the fans favourites. As we have only seen him play a few times it’s hard to assess his ability. Never seemed to be fully fit.
The deal is probably the best for the club and the player. If he can have a full injury free season in France, another assessment can be made by our coaching staff, before deciding to either sell him or give him another chance.
From what I read yesterday it seems that the Mills saga is moving in Wolves favour. If the player is not signing a new contract and has indicted that he wants to play in the Premiership, I think it more likely that Reading will sell rather than risk losing him in 12 months time for nothing.
However, if Wolves valuation of Mills is about £3m, he is being valued at a price similar to what was paid for Berra. He may prove to be better, but it’s a bit of gamble.

I watched Mouyokolo against Notts County and Lee Hughes made him look dreadful.
I said that night, in fact I was amazed at how poor he was, that this lad is not good enough and wondered why Mick had signed him especially as we had just signed Fletcher (assumingly to play alongside Doyle) to play 4-4-2. We needed some quality at the back and it certainly came to haunt us as the season progressed.
Even the Hull fans did not rate him, but apparently he had a decent second half of the season.
Its all history now, but I would like to know why we signed this fella at all, especially for a modest £2.5m fee.
He and 4/5 other signings (Van Damne, M’hoffer, Halford, Marcus Bent, Shackell etc, have been a complete waste of time and money.
That extra £5000 p/week for Scott Dann sure looks like a bargin now doesn’t it Mr Moxey.
I hope its a lesson learnt when signing players for the Premiership.

3 Si…. Agreed, if today’s news that John Arne Reisa is considering a move to Southampton, he would be worth consideration. He may not have the ‘Legs’ of previous years but his experience more than makes up for that. Watched him last season and whilst I initially thought he was overweight and slow, he was still there after 90 minutes and to be brutally honest was far, far better than anybody we put out in the defence last season.
It is quite obvious that the going rate for quality PL central defenders is way and above what we have offered for Mills, indeed far more than Reading are asking. Which begs the question, why are we trying to screw their valuation ? We want him to play in the PL, so if we are capable and truly believe we can improve him and the lad does the business we are quids in. Either we consider him good enough or we don’t. Sounds like this is a case of Moxey flexing is muscles and trying to be a ‘Big Shot’ In my honest opinion the lad is better than what we have and worth Reading’s valuation. Get it done !

On footballing matters, people need to relax. Craddock, Berra and Stearman have been our 3 main CBs for the last 2 years and have we been relegated?
Berra has been given too much stick, because he lost form badly at the end of last season. Have you forgotten Liverpool away to name but 1 gargantuan performance.

They were real quality and sold thousands of replica’s. Bootleggers were prosecuted and clubs made serious money. Have they forgotten this lesson and how easy it is to loose money, apart from the logo and sponsor ID this junk will be easily copied. Bob Wolf and others, Let us be fair to our manager. He wanted Johnson two years ago.He wanted Dann ,we had him having a medical with us.He wanted Carroll, and what a signing that would have been.Mick can identify good players, the problem lies elsewhere.

48) Ask any Blues fan and Roger Johnson had some shockers last season. Furthermore, how many poor games have you seen Terry and Ferdinand have for England? My point is that all defenders make mistakes. Zubar and Stearman should definitely be kept!
51) A side that beat Man Utd – should have been twice, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and Villa, WBA, Stoke and Blues – from the local patch – definitely deserved to stay up!

60) Agree with you.
Not only could you get better, and cheaper, in Bangkok, also in Chiang Mai where our Thailand Wolves Supporters Club are based.
It’s shamefull. We Wolves supporters out here are battling it out with WBA, Brum, Villa and (snigger) Port Vale (only 1) supporters in Pub debates.
Having been a regular at Molineaux since 1962 I now only get over to Wolverhampton twice each year, but I’ve seen this joke strip and it’s embarrassing.
Come on guys, 3m’s, give us something to be proud of.
Example:-
New strip design with the 3 wolves emblem.
2 respected (or potentially decent) centre backs.
1 fully qualified left back.
1 (more) playmaker midfielder.
But, DON’T, DON’T DON’T mess up the clubs finances by either paying over the odds or paying excessive wage demands. Tough call you guys, but that’s why you’re on the salaries you get.
Steve Morgan, our hero. (weren’t so sure at first).

Yes but Johnston was poor without Scott Dann.
And now you are comparing Apples with Pears. How can you compare Ferdinand and Terry playing for England against Stearman in the same breath?
If you get enough points you will stay up.

38 (teacher) This is a WWFC blog, but as you are on the subject! I am a teacher and I love my job of 17 years, but I for one was at ‘work’ today not on strike!! I get a satisfactory wage, well in excess of the national average. I get countless holidays throughout the year, more than anyone deserves really. My pension is an outdated Final Salary scheme mainly funded by the country and every tax paying, hard working individual who will probably retire on a 1/5, 1/6 or even less of their final salary, but who will have paid in a great deal more of their pay than I ever have. I’m sorry but I for one will gladly do my bit to help out the economy and this country instead of bleeting on about how hard done to the teachers are…as should every Policeman, Nurse and politician for that matter. The only ones I would leave are the Servicemen and Women who actually may lose their life while doing their job rather than just get a paper cut or some verbal abuse from an unruly child or drunk A&E casualty…. Put up and shut up and get in the real world.

to take up on 15 and 24.
Mick doesnt have a good record with central defenders, imv our best has been craddock (and he was already at the club when mick came)
weve seen
ward
collins
breen- good defender, just no pace
stearman- a championship defender
berra- mick waited over 2 seasons to sign him, cant really see why?
manciennce- signed as a central defender but played out of position in midfield most of the time??
Zubar- can play central but played as right back
As for mayouko. he’s not coming back, the signing didnt work out for us or him, like maiehoffer, halford, shackell etc.So lets stop playing silly games and move on.
I seriously think our premiership status will rely heavily on whether we can defend better than last season and for that the defence needs strenghening

Yes I think Moyokolo does have a future with us. I don’t think he’s been given a fair crack with us and loaning him away for a whole season to me is just plain stupid.
As for Mills I gather we have made a £3 million bid which the Reading manager described as ‘way off’ – what an idiot, who does he think he is Bobby Moore? If we keep waiting around for bargains though we are potentially playing a dangerous game. We could end up with 30+ cast offs! We do need to show a bit more ambition, remember 22/5/2011?
As fans we are patient but this patience won’t last much longer, we want to see some action!

I can understand Reading playing hardball with Wolves & Wolves not wanting to pay over inflated prices. What I don’t get is last season we pay (gamble) 2.5m to Hull for an injured Mouyokolo who remained injured all season – yet are now steadfast in only wanting to pay Reading 3m for a fully fit Matt Mills rather than the 4m asking price. I believe Mills would be an awesome signing as he is vocal & commanding in defence. Where do we have that trait now? I see cashed up Sunderland have been truly busy – not sure about 8m for Wickham, nearly as bad as 35m for Carroll & 50m for Torres!!
Come on Wolves break the transfer record if you have too & like you said you would if needed a few weeks ago.

Again I agree, what I should have said was, the design doesnt offend me (Iactualy like the round neck), I’m not particularly in love with it either, in terms of a strip design there will always be some fans that do not like a design or shade & that will always upset people.
What should never happen though is a strip being produced & sold that is as poor quaity as this & as such I can honestly say that I can’t think of a worse strip that we have produced for the fans in th 35 years I have been going to matches (Yes even worse than the ‘skid mark shirt & the Puma wolf head shirts, as they were well made).
As a club everything we appear to be doing at the moment is about improving quality, better players, training facilities, new ground etc, in my opinion this completely flys in the face of that, to the people who should be most important to the club & who shouldn’t be short changed, the fans.

Swansea have got to the Premiership for the first time in their history and they have already lost their Captain Pratley to Bolton and their first choice keeper to us. They have a massive uphill task to stay up.
I think that we will sign Mills over the next week and I’d be happy with Evans, Johnson, Cuellar, Dunne or Bassong to partner him with Craddock as back-up if required. Also read that the Bertrand deal is looking likely which will be good. Also hoping that we can get Nigel Reo-Coker.
A few additions still needed to start the season with:
Hennessey
Foley/Zubar
centre back
centre back
left back
Jarvis
Guerdioura
O’Hara
Hunt
Fletcher
