Greg Halford still a Portsmouth target

Greg Halford still a Portsmouth target

Wolves utility man Greg Halford is still in Portsmouth’s sights – despite Pompey signing Jason Pearce.

Pearce was snapped up from Bournemouth on Friday, strengthening Steve Cotterill’s central defence, where Halford played much of his loan spell last season.

But Cotterill remains keen on bringing back Halford as well.

The Pompey manager said: “We’re still interested in Greg. We’re interested in lots of players.

“There are quite a few targets we’re still after and, if they come across the line, then great.”

Halford is about to enter the final year of his deal at Wolves and the club are keen to offload him.

The 26-year-old is likely to be sold this summer rather than loaned out, as manager Mick McCarthy looks to improve his squad.

Halford is one of several players Wolves are prepared to offload this summer, along with Andy Keogh, Stefan Maierhofer and Sam Vokes.

Maierhofer, who has a year left on his contract like Keogh, is available for £1.3million but Wolves have had little interest.
