Dorus De Vries warns Wolves No 1

Wolves’ new goalkeeper Dorus De Vries has declared himself ready to challenge for Wayne Hennessey’s No 1 slot after sealing his move to Molineux.

The 30-year-old underwent a medical at Compton yesterday and joins on a three-year contract, following Jamie O’Hara into Molineux as the club’s second signing in as many days.

De Vries has signed on a Bosman free transfer after rejecting a lucrative new deal to stay at the Premier League’s newest club.

By moving to Wolves, former Holland under-21 international has shown his determination to challenge for a place after being a virtual ever-present for the last four years in South Wales.

De Vries, who will officially become a Wolves player on July 1, will solve his new club’s goalkeeping dilemma after they released Marcus Hahnemann and Adriano Basso at the end of last season.

The new signing will provide competition for first choice Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme and De Vries has told his rivals to expect a fight for the goalkeeper’s jersey.

He said: “It’s going to be a great battle for me which I think will help me progress.

“All throughout my career I’ve been first-choice and I carefully chose my clubs on the basis on where I’d establish myself.

“Now this is the next step, to challenge for a place in the Premier League, and all I can do is get to know the guys, train really hard and show what I can do.”
