Wolves hero Stephen Hunt urges Steven Fletcher re-think
Tuesday 31st May 2011, 11:28AM BST.
Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt is hoping his Wolves team-mate Steven Fletcher will end his rift with Scotland manager Craig Levein and resume his international career.
Hunt continued his triumphant climax to a testing season by playing in Ireland’s 1-0 victory over Scotland at the weekend which won the inaugural Carling Nations Cup.
He would have relished playing against the goalscoring hero of Wolves’ Premier League survival run-in but Fletcher and Levein remain at odds leaving the Molineux striker frozen out from his national team.
Hunt said: “I don’t know what has happened and I don’t know the ins and outs. But I do know that Steven is a really good player. Fletcher for the last six or seven games at Wolves was absolutely fantastic – he scored vital goals for us.
“I do hope that one day maybe he can come back for Scotland because he is a fine player.”
Fletcher finished the season in terrific form for Mick McCarthy’s team and ended with 10 goals from 15 Premiership starts.
Fletcher was accused of turning his his back on Scotland by refusing a place in the squad for February’s round of internationals.
