Wolves will sign Jamie O’Hara
Thursday 26th May 2011, 11:00AM BST.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed he will sign loan star Jamie O’Hara.
O’Hara was brought in from Tottenham in January on the understanding a full transfer would be completed in the event of Wolves winning their survival fight.
And with both player and club delighted with events since his arrival, McCarthy anticipates no problems in getting the go-ahead for his first outlay of the summer, believed to be in the region of £5million.
He said: “We’ve got a deal to do and I want to sign him. Jamie wants to stay and we will be doing it.
“I think he has shown his quality since he has been here. He was really good at the start, then maybe had a bit of a dip for about five games after Villa, along with everyone else mind you.
“But that was understandable as he’d been out for six months after having a back operation. He’s been back at it in the last few games and I thought he was outstanding on Sunday.
“He maybe didn’t get the ball in the first-half but did really well in the second-half and was also terrific against West Brom and Sunderland.
“He has added real quality to us. He’s a real Premier League player and that is what we are trying to get in again this year.”
O’Hara’s performances have endeared him to the Molineux faithful not least because of his Black Country derby strike at the Hawthorns, voted the club’s goal of the season by supporters at last week’s end of season awards night.
He has been fully inducted into life at Molineux, declaring: “I’m loving every moment playing for Wolves and I didn’t realise how much of a big club this is until I came here.
“It’s run fantastically well, the chairman is brilliant and the gaffer is absolutely amazing. He gets everyone involved in everything. It was a great decision to come here.
“I’m enjoying my football.”
But there will be delays in McCarthy sorting out the futures of other players.
Goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, who is now out of contract having lost his first-choice spot to Wayne Hennessey, is among them.
Hahnemann flew off straight after the dramatic final game against Blackburn Rovers to join the United States for Gold Cup duty overseas.

Great stuff, bit of quality and will be even better next year when fully fit. More quality less quantity this pre season please Mick!
Great news on Jamie. I agree with Micks assessment of him totally.
Defender needed. Craddock has done well for us but to get to the next level we need a higher quality defence. Left back needs sorting. Zubar and Floey can cover the right!
Sign him quick Mick.
And them start looking at two decent CBs!
As I understand it the fee was agreed at the time of the loan deal. The only thing to discuss is personnel terms.
Let’s hope this is completed quickly so that we can focus on other targets.
I cant help but think that he could be even better us next season with a full pre season under his belt, the same goes for hunt and possibly Kightly aswell. Things are looking good, if we can just sort out that defence of ours.

As a club in the 3rd season of the Premier League we must now be looking to finish in mid table. So we need a solid squad and steady management. We must be looking at moving some players on and bringing quality in. We are in need of 2 centre halfs, a left back, 2 midfielders and a quality striker.
Hurry up then, and then hurry up with the new defence. Only quality mind, and definitely no homesick Johnny Foreigners this time.
Strange that no one is calling for Robbie to be signed like they were in January.
Also well done to Wardy on his Irish debut.
Roll on August.
True quality Prem player you could see it from his first game.
We need more of the same but in defence a minimum of 3 and then we will be fine for next season.
Don’t drag your feet then Mick, get the lad signed up quick! then please concentrate on some real quality for the defense, we need premier league experience at the back but someone who is still young & hungry enough to fit in with Micks ideals. We don’t need any big time charlies! I would also love to see O’Hara lining up next season in a new look midfield again with the necessary experience and class to improve us. We need to stronger in every department next season so we can really establish ourselves, no more last day dogfights please ! Come on three M’s splash some wise cash, no need to go all silly just a few prudent deals for the right players! Up the wolves.

Very pleased about signing him (although its not completely official). Jamie is the closest thing wolves have to a player like Charlie Adam, as Jamie has a cracking left foot on his, and has the ability to switch play well with long through balls.
Also about the prospect of signing Roger Johnson, as much as I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to sign him, I cannot see B’ham selling him to us if they plan to return to the premier league next season as this would strengthen our squad, besides Tottenham, Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle want to sign him.
Also, pleased for Ward and Berra for getting their first international goals for Ireland and Scotland.
Good news, but lets get it done quickly, as we’ve got a habit of dragging our feet.allowing other clubs to come in and outbid us. Lets also add 2-4 other quality players i.e BPL players with 3yrs-5yrs experience, maybe not first team regulars ( but on subs bench regular ),who would enjoy a fresh challenge, and a chance of regular football, but players who would add quality/experience to our mostly Championship squad of players. IS MACIENNE LEAVING? can’t say i’ll miss him and not worth 5m.

It confirms what a lot of Wolves fans feel, that the Club is progressing on and off the field and is financially stable. Let’s hope we can attract the defenders we need to take us to the next level and prove the whingers on this site that they are, and have always been, wrong.
That goes for the visitors from the dim side too !
Hey, aren’t you all glad your not QPR fans ? if Briatore gets his way that club is an accident waiting to happen. Only problem for us is the cost of away tickets for Loftus Road.
Great news..Now like everyones saying lets work on a new defence and one more quality centre mid please….UTW.
Great News! Is it just coincidence that since O’Hara arrived at Wolves, we have actually changed our tactics and become more positive, more daring and unpredictable. From kick-off we always used to knock the ball back to the goalkeeper for him to hoof it up the pitch to be won by the opposition, something I’ve always criticised. Then lo-and-behold on O’Hara’s arrival we actually keep the ball and play it sideways and forward. Our free kicks are imaginative as is our set-piece play. I can’t imagine MM takes notice of fans comments, it must be O’Hara’s arrival.
His passing sometimes leaves alot to be desired but he is a breath of fresh air considering how we were so negative and defensive, even in attack.
Think he will turn out to be a good signing for the wolfies, would like him at the Albion but not sure where he would fit into our midfield as we have similar style players
But can I just point out that yes our clubs may have dominated the 50/60 but we both can no longer be described as a big club..it just annoys me when players say this we have them at our club too.. a big club can sign rooney at his peak a big club can sign van persie at his best etc……
the only way we as clubs are better than these teams is our fans we are loyal to our local side and support them through the dark days and our current “good” times …look forward to locking horns next season
Report abuse
Good initial signing, very happy.
I think that it is essential to keep Hannermann, not a bad keeper, US international, and Premier Division standard
Report abuse
If we didn’t then I would seriously question our ambition. A couple of high profile defenders and that should be all we need. Without the injuries we should have been mid table placed with the player we had at the start of this season. A better defence will surely make that happen.
Ho yes fantastic news.please sign more quality
players rather than quantity.

The subject of Michael Mancienne is interesting, if we could get him for around 2mil and coach him as a left back I think he could be a real player for us and solves the left back problem. He’s younger than Warnock and Konchesky and quicker than both of them.
Jamie O’Hara is a class act and considering he didn’t have a pre-season or play for 6 months he was superb and with a full pre-season under his belt we will have an even better player who I would make him team Captain for next season keeping Craddock as club Captain. We need to keep Karl Henry away from the media and concentrating on his game.
Roger Johnson, Michael Mancienne and Carlos Cuellar in next.

Top class player who wants to be at Wolves !
GET HIS CONTRACT SORTED MOXEY ASAP
**note to Dave Jones**
you should of signed for us when you had the chance, get rid, O’HARA is 10 times the player Jones is.
Manciene, thanks but not the player he looked when first arrived i think he’s looking more like A GIRL each week ! lol
proberly go on to sign for Arsenal… ladies.
Get Johnson is too ! big strong defender, just what we need !
offer 10 million for both Dann & Johnson then i think were looking like a mid table finnish next year.
& dare i say it, offer Mick a new contract too

Just to echo the sentiments of many posts on here today, Jamie oozes pure class.Wonder if we could get Barton from Newcastle? He used to be classed as a problem waiting to happen, but as he showed in our 2 games against the Geordies, he has grown up now & could be an excellent aquisition.
I reckon Scott Parker & Matthew Upson from relegated West Ham would certainly strenthen the defencde & midfield.
I haven’t anticipated the new season this much since the John Barnwell/Richie Barker days, the sale of Steve Daley & the signing of Andy Gray.

Nice post 17, what a change to all the nasty jibes we get from both WW & WB supporters. Still feel MM should look at his tactics. ie Stop our players from peddling backwards when the opposition have the ball, the amount of yardage the opposition gain into our territory & then pssing the ball is ludicrous. Also get them to read the game, by that I mean get into a position to receive the ball instead of just standing still, leaving the ball player with no option than to hoof it back to the goalkeeper.

The Village Idiot No22-we may as well say that we want Xavi,Messi et al,because we haven’t a cat in hell’s chance of signing Johnson from the blouses.Bigger clubs with fatter wallets are sniffing round as alluded to in an earlier post (10)and he’ll go where the dough is-exactly the same as you and I would do.
But I’ll excuse you this time as you have a tendency to lean towards the improbable and even the rediculous on occasions as any regular reader of these pages will testify.

17. Good points, however, I believe that Wolves and WBA are bigger than some clubs that achieve the media ‘love in’ of being described as a ‘big club’ e.g Newcastle, West Ham.. There is no way either of those two clubs are bigger than WBA or Wolves and it annoys me when the media portray them as such. Newcastle get bigger crowds? So that is the was we judge ‘big clubs’ is it… They cannot touch either of ours history…

Good.Let’s get the signings in quickly. I still felt at times last season that we were reliant on the Championship team again. We really need to move on. I am not knocking any of those players ,you can NEVER doubt their fighting spirit or willingness to give 120%. But if we don’t get 3 or 4 signings in I fear another season of struggle.Who are going to be the strugglers next season ? Norwich ? QPR? Swansea/Reading ? Probably 2 or 3 other teams as well? Well, it’s 11 weeks on saturday till kick off! WWFC forever!

29,
Great shout on Barton & Upson (Free transfer) I was only thinking the same yesterday.
Though we wouldn’t have a prayer with Parker, he will go to a top 6 club & he’s a London boy can’t see him moving north of Watford unless its for a kings ransome.
I’d go for -
Barton
O’Hara
Johnson
Upson
Warnock

Manncienne
Mujanji Bia
Kighty (Loan, to get fit, needs football)
Halford

31) Why would you call a fellow Wolves supporter The Village Idiot just because he says he’d like us to sign Roger Johnson ? He’s been identified as an MM target and media talk of other clubs offering more money is pure speculation, and drawing the analogy of Messi and Xavier is totally absurd.
Get a brain and learn some manners.

17. Dont mean to criticise mate but i dont remember Albion dominating the 50s with us! I think you’ll find that was Man U. Good team you had yeah, won the cup in 54 but not a great one. Dont recall Albion winning 3 titles, being 2nd 4 or 5 times, winning back to back titles (58/59), winning major trophies 3 successive seasons (58/59/60), beating Europes finest teams enthralling the nation, helping start the European cup and playing in it twice (59/60) and also reaching a Euro semi final (61), or having the 1st player to reach 100 England caps! Albion have never done any of that. Wolves became World famous! Georgie Best grew up supporting us. Sir Alex loved that Wolves team and Big Ron once said when he first walked into Molineux as a trainee he looked at Ron Flowers and the rest and thought he’d arrived among the footballing Gods! I could go on. Nice to look back. History is important because it should inspire the current lot to want to make a bit of their own!

32 Chris old mate. Your comment about Newcastle. Couldn’t agree more. The media attention they get is on a par with ManU, Arsenal,Chelsea,Liverpool etc. Never understood why. That club havn’t won a major domestic trophy since 1955!! Yes thats 56 years and rising. Since that time Wolves have won 3 league Championships, the FA Cup & 2 League Cups! Albion have won 2 FA Cups & a League Cup. Black Country clubs are miles bigger mate!!

Great news regarding O’Hara. Three or four new signings plus a good loan or two should be enough for next season. Wolves need to increase there wage structure a bit without going over the top, a couple of free agents or those entering the last year of their contract should be looked at as the reduced transfer fee could allow a higher wage. One point that has not been commented on is that Wolves could look at increasing their coaching staff. Clipboard may be coach but why not bring in Ray Wilkins as well, I’m sure that a suitable title could be found for both of them. I don’t know the full situation as to why he was released by Chelsea but their sudden collapse started the day he left. He couldn’t have gone from a great coach to second rate overnight and we all know that the Russian who owns Chelsea changes everything more often than he changes his underpants.

Brilliant news, not as good as the news that mancieene is going back to Chelsea tho… FWAW

Mancienne is a class act who was shoved back at centre half for the most crucial games of the season, having not played centre half for ages, and having suffered quite a long injury.
Given a long run again at Centre Half I am sure he will be a premier league regular, and get back in the England Squad. I would rather he did this at Wolves than with someone else.

The talk of Jamie signing so soon, certainly leaves an air of optimism. However i dont think MM or SM will be dragging their feet …. but guess who might !
As far as Upson goes … please no !!!!!
A trail of disruption & discontent wherever he goes.
What about James Tomkins, however ?
Konchesky would be a good signing …. but can see him signing for Hodgson.
If Wigan dont resign Cleverley on loan – maybe a cheeky loan attempt there ?

Get in! Great signing now just get it done. Just think how good he will be with a pre-season behind him.
I think that Roger Johnson AND Scott Dann would be quality additions to the team. These are the sort of players that we should be looking to sign. We are no longer top flight virgins!
Their probably not on much more than some of the players here and this alone makes them more viable signings that others. The problem is that Blues won’t let them go on the cheap and other clubs are likely to be interested as well.

We definately need to sign a good defence this summer. personally mancienne is a quality player needs to play more his silly mistakes are due to lack of first team experience. Id sell jones, kightly, Mujanji Bia,mouyakolo and keogh. use the money to bid for charlie adams to partner doyle now that would be a force to be seen. Top 10 finish next season would be great.

17. I think he may have been speaking about the club in historical terms, as few realise the impact of Wolves in years gone by, especially European football,
22, I have said this myself all season, Mancienne isnt big enough for a centre back, or agressive enough for a midfield dogfight, but he seems to have all the attributes to make a really good full back,…unless MM has tried him there behind closed doors and it didnt work(or Ward sulked!)-joke.
But seriously if we cannot find clubs for the likes of Keogh, Berra, Halford, the Hoff etc I think it may be wise to cut our loses and pay them up and let them go,…as they wont make the 25 squad but will still be taking a wage and draining the clubs fascilities, coaching and medical staff.
2 quality CB’s, a quailty holding midfielder( maybe Milijas could do this job?), and I personally feel we need a striker with pace as this is something we have lacked for years.
I find it amazing that there are still Wolves fans who think we should buy Mancienne . As a CB he’s as useless as Hindmarsh , as a MF as ineffective as Mark Atkins. Can’t tackle , can’t pass , can’t head a ball , can’t jump ,no positional sense, totally lightweight.
Agree totally with whoever said Kightly should go out on loan. In retrospect i’m sure MM realises it was a big mistake to bring him back too soon. What he needs now is a loan till Christmas to a Championship or even League One side , give him a chance to get match fit at a less demanding level and get some competitive football.
Maybe too it’s time for Henry to move on. A shame because Wolves mean everything to him , but too often a liability giving away free kicks and he’ll never be able to make a forward pass or chip in with the odd goal.
Oh yes , and good to see O’Hara actually wanting to come here. And get your money on QPR to be relegated and Warnock first Premier manager to go. The F1 loonies are in charge now.
50 I don’t think we should either buy or loan Mancienne again, but to say he can’t tackle, can’t pass, can’t head a ball, can’t jump, no positional sese, totally lightweight is completely absurd. He doesn’t deserve that sort of criticism.
We should thank him for the contribution he made, particularly in the Championship winning season and wish him well.

Mancienne is certainly a strange one, he is obviously a good footballer, but where the hell do you play him? 2 mill, considering he’s used to the club, can improve and is still young etc. but what Chelski are asking? nope, sorry jog on…

45, West Brom Unrealist, I can’t stop laughing at your reply, talk about clutching at straws! In terms of history, past players, fanbase, stadium and now annual turnover, you can never put Albion in the same bracket as Wolves, particulary in the 50s. Albion is a famous old club similar to a Norwich/Barnsley or something, but never Wolves. I would say Stoke, Bolton and Blackburn are all bigger than the Albion in terms of history, players etc. I think your Dad was a bit of a dreamer mate!
Anyway, anybody think the return of Huddleston could be a good/possible signing?
And…if we have to replace Karl Henry, why not have a stab at signing Danny Murphy? Controversial, but he would do a job. I know Mick rates him.
With regard to Mancienne I can’t believe the guy could be chosen for England squad while plying his trade with Wolves in the Championship and suddenly become a disaster. I remember Wardy having a particularly bad time against a nippy winger in our promosional season and Mick substituted him suprisingly for Mancienne, that winger never had a touch of the ball in the second half and I am firmly convinced that his speed and reading of the game could make him one of the best left backs in the country. Worth a punt but at a realistic fee say 2-3 mill.
