Jez Moxey backs Wolves to kick on

Chief Executive Jez Moxey believes Wolves will get through their third successive Premier League campaign next season without the final-day dramatics.

Moxey insists the struggles of the first two campaigns were only to be expected – and the ‘second-season syndrome’ which Wolves only survived by a point would be an inevitable test for the club.

He said: “We understood that the second season was going to be really difficult and that’s why we didn’t set any crazy objectives about what we might be able to do.

“We just wanted to survive again and, having done that, we hope it gets slightly easier in the third season.

“We think we will be OK – the players get used to being Premier League players but it will still be difficult, I am sure.”

Moxey added that Wolves will go for team building in a “sensible” manner as they now prepare for the next campaign.

He said:  “It was always in our plans if we stayed in the league to try and strengthen the squad. We will try and do that reasonably and sensibly and with something that’s sustainable as we have always done.

“But we have to always try and move forward and that does mean trying to improve year on year.

“We knew the league was going to be tougher this season and actually managed to improve our points tally from 38 to 40.

“We do have some targets in mind but we’ll only really talk about them once we’ve done it. We have talked about things but I think everyone will just take a few days break before getting down to business.

“As always, trying to get it done as early as we can to be ready for pre-season and have a squad capable of keeping us up for a fourth successive season.”
