Matt Jarvis wants Wolves to improve

Double Player of the Year Matt Jarvis has challenged Wolves to improve on clinching survival by kicking on.

Winger Jarvis is one of Wolves’ most sought-after players after dazzling Premier League full-backs up and down the country in a season that saw him become the club’s first England cap for 20 years and win both player awards.

Wolves are quietly confident of keeping the 25-year-old, partly because he has to convince the clubs he has been linked with that he can produce the form that got him England recognition on a regular basis.

Manager Mick McCarthy rested him for two of the final three games after a dip in form. But Jarvis, who signed a five-year deal last September, wants to see the club progress beyond being Premier League survivors.

He said: “Hopefully that will happen. I’m sure everyone is looking to the summer to see what happens. But we’ve got a great squad as it is.

“Everyone has played their part this season and hopefully next season it will go even better.

“It would be nice not to be involved in a relegation battle, especially one that doesn’t go to the last day of the season.”

Jarvis believes Wolves may have overcome their biggest hurdle in avoiding the dreaded ‘second season syndrome.’

He said: “It’s absolutely massive for the club. Everyone says the second season is the hardest one and I think they’re right because it was been such a hard-fought season.”
