Wolves will stay up insists McCarthy

Manager Mick McCarthy has insisted Wolves will stay up on Survival Sunday – and vowed to take personal blame if they don’t.

The Wolves boss, who takes his side into the vital clash against Blackburn needing a win to guarantee Premier League safety, believes his players deserve top-flight football for their efforts.

He said: “If any group of players deserve to stay in the Premier League, it’s this one. Of course, they have one more big performance in them.

“So yes, we will be fine. I have said it all along and I have said it to a lot of doubters – if we don’t do it, blame me.

“Sometimes the manager has been accused of not knowing what he is doing – sometimes I have believed it!

“But come and support us – we’re staying in the Premier League, let me tell you.”

McCarthy also rounded on the critics he believes were trying to see him sacked early in the new year.

He said: “Sky Sports News – and other media – were desperate to drive a wedge between me, Jez Moxey and Steve Morgan, but we never allowed it to happen.

“I know Jez and Steve have touched on it, but the togetherness we talk about has been there all the way through.

“We have all stuck together to the extent where we are now hoping to clinch safety and that is because we all remained united – the chief executive, chairman, manager, players and fans.”

McCarthy also pleaded with the fans not to make Molineux too anxious on Sunday.

He said: “The fans have been fabulous. But do not pass your anxiety to me or the players. Rest assured, they will give everything.

“Remember, sometimes we just get beaten by a better side – it’s not because of a lack of effort on their part.

“We all want to stay in the league and we’ll feel a damned sight better about each other when that happens.

“Let’s just make sure we do.”

Wolves were bossed out of the game in their 3-0 defeat at Blackburn in December.

But McCarthy said: “I couldn’t care less about what happened last time.”

Mick said he would get us promoted in 3 seasons, he did.
Mick said he would keep us up last season, He did.
So when Mick says we are going to survive this season, im confident we will.

Theres countless managers that would have bemoaned all the points lost due to poor refereeing, theres also countless managers that would have used our huge injury list as an excuse. Mick hasnt done that at all this season, and i for one am proud to have a manager that can take responcibilty for theyre actions, as its a trait thats being lost from this beautiful game. Win on sunday, keep us up, and prove to everyone once and for all that you are the premier league manager that will take us forward in this league.

As i said on Monday, lets get behind ‘everyone’ in the Wolves camp. After the match on Sunday, then is the time to decide what supporters ‘want and think’ about the manager, coach, and players, etc etc, but for now lets keep positive and give the lads 100% support on here ,on the radio phone-in progs, and in the press. Ive just heard on 5live Alex Ferguson has said at least 6 first team players will play Van Der Sar ,Fletcher,Evra,Scholes,Berbatov,Anderson. But i still say its what we do that matters, win it, and we stay up? Lets just do our job as fans by givng the lads 100% vocal backing for 95 mins, yes im nervous like many other fans, but i want to remain ‘positve’ so like i say leave all other talk until Sunday night. I am sure there will be a big influx of Mad Mick haters, saying that he should go – either by resigning or being sacked. It will not happen and we will stay up! At the end of the day, Mick has most definitely to blame on some of the signings and decisions he has made but Morgan and more so Moxey have to share the blame.
Why did we not push the boat out for both Scott Dann and Roger Johnson two years ago? Quibbling about wages and transfer fees to a club like Blues is not good enough. At the end of the day we have had worse injuries than most and I am fairly certain that had we had the luxury of having Craddock, Mancienne and Hunt playing much sooner, we would have been mid-table and top dogs in the West Midlands.
A big atmosphere is called for on Sunday. We need to survive and secure the signing of Jamie O’Hara. Wolves ay we!

I know it’s in our own hands; we win and we’re safe, but it’s comforting to know have a safety cushion in this time of stress. All four of our fellow strugglers are not going to win away from home, it’ll take just two of them to lose and we’re safe. Even two of them drawing might be enough as long as our goal difference stays intact.

    12. The honourable thing and resign even if we win? We go into a 3rd consecutive season of Premiership football with the second lowest wage budget in the division and the ONLY CLUB WITH NO DEBT. We also have the 3rd youngest squad.

I sometimes get agitated with his team-selection and tactics but I sometimes did with Dave Jones and used to get really angry at Glenn Twaddles lack of care.

Even if we did go down, I’d want Mick to stay after all a player with the calibre of Jamie O’Hara says he want to stay even if we are relegated, Mick has the respect and commitment of all of the players.

We have a great Football club,in good hands and it is STABLE!!! I totally believe that we are building a club for the next generation and beyond to be proud of. After Sunday he will stand in line only behind Major Buckley, Stan Cullis and Bill McGarry as all time great Wolves Managers.

Why have the express and star taken all the speeches/interviews from the end of season players dinner and stretched them as far as possible into as many articles to fill the back pages and website? Mick said all this when questioned by Jim White (skysports) at the dinner after Jez and Steve had already spoken. Also edited to fit what the express and star want it to sound like.

The part where Mick said not to pass on our own anxiety was aimed at supporters at the dinner approaching the players for autographs and not to say things like please win etc. Nothing to do with the game on Sunday, so dont jump to the e&s clever editing to make it sound how they want it.

All comments made by McCarthy at the dinner were spot on and a lot said in jest towards Jim White. It was a very positive evening with new kit, plans on show for new development and prospect of another year in premier league. Mick has got the players support, staff support and boards support and is embedded in the future vision of the club, some might not like this but at least there is a common focus and belief of future greatness so just get behind the lads like we always do.

As I’m a businessman with a 35 year history I’m glad that Morgan is the only guy in the Premier League who has got no debt. I’m pleased that we may have a new stadium in the next couple of years. I will kick every ball and sweat every time Blackburn get close to the Wolves goalmouth. I know that every Wolves player will die on Sunday to get the result that is required otherwise they won’t be able to face their wives, girlfriends or the thousands of REAL Wolves fans in the coming months. BUT, one home truth, MAD MICK has finally said the words “BLAME ME”. 37 times minus a few hot days he never said those same words. Wolves wouldn’t be in the situation they are today, down to the last match if MR. BLAIM ME had said that months ago and resigned. I don’t know what I’ll feel at this moment in time at 5.45pm plus injury time on Sunday but I do know that I don’t want Mr. MAD MICK in charge come August. That is what it’s all about, and why those silly Blues fans who told the world they’d cracked it last season have had the grins wiped from their faces big-time in the last few weeks. According to the Blackburn website the supporters attending the game on Sunday will be given £10 vouchers at the turnstiles to use for soft refreshments. This is a gesture by the indian owners for their support.

Perhaps it’s a gesture to soften the blow if they are relegated?

Hoping my bet on Sunday in SOME way is correct. I have had a bet on Brum to lose and all the other relegation battlers to draw, including us:

This will result in West Ham, Wigan and B-ham to go down and Wolves safe
However I will feel a lot better if Wolves win and I get 4 out of 5 right and still get some monies back from William Hill

Secondly, as a former sponsor of players like Bull, Mutch and Thompson and a sponsor of the Wolves when the club was struggling in the era of Turner, add the Wolves speedway team with Ronney of the USA and not to forget the late Elvis Gordon plus the rest of the judo world where in total I personally put in over 100,000 Pounds Sterling in the late eighties, NO PR, NO PUBLICITY just a faith in everything that was related to Wolverhampton. So shut your big mouth until you can make some sort of positive contribution.

I like the fact that we have more points now than last year so we must be improving.
Hope next year we will be safe before the last game of the season.

Thinking of all the stupid points we have lost late in games this season we could of finished in Europe!

I hope that the negativity towards our best manager for the last 30 years is but a small, vocal minority.

Otherwise this club does not deserve a decent manager or premier league status!

They show a complete lack of gratitude and their timing is, as ever atrocious!

If Mick McCarthy took us down and offered his resignation, it would quite rightly not be accepted.

UC, I think Morgan might have a little more business sense than even you (shock!)AND be putting in a little more than £100k. As you think that this is important to how footballing opinions should be rated, how do you reconcile Morgan’s continued and 100% support of Super Mick?

Scott Dann didn’t come to us because birmingham ring fenced his salary should they be relegated.

We don’t do that – all the players take a pay cut if we go down.

No matter what is said on these boards, the particular narcissistic personalities, and I am only referring to a few, that slate you and certain members of the team and executive management, you have shown great character in rising above the petty vitrolic ashes being spewed about; in the end, when these ashes and dust have settled, the minority of unhappy people who have mercilessly savaged you and the team will disappear like a puff of smoke. Realistically I think a draw will be enough but Blackburn scare me a bit. Despite their position they are a very difficult team to beat and a good solid side. Obviously an early goal to settle the nerves would be ideal but if a draw is required for both sides I hope us and them can come to a gentlemen’s agreement.

For tomorrow I think we have to play 4-5-1, thus:

    Hennessey
    Foley
    Elokobi
    Mancienne
    Craddock
    Hunt
    Jarvis
    O’Hara
    Henry
    Ward
    Fletcher.

No way can we afford to concede an early goal, may have gone 4-4-2 but with Doyle crocked this is out of the question.

I saw the interview with Morgan where he supposedly gave Mick his backing and let me tell you he gave a diplomatic businessmans answer.

I am a realist and I attend most games. When everyone was saying we just had to turn up to beat everton I urged caution and was sadly proved right. There has been a big anti McCarthy feeling at away games- Morgan is aware if this- he was made very aware at Blackpool!

I am worried about tomorrow because I don’t see us beating Blackburn steve keane is already quoting Mick McCarthy and his ‘ beat blackburn’ pledge.

Sue I don’t think I have ever advocated big sam, but can you really say his football is more unattractive than that of mm?

I didn’t expect so many comments regarding 46. Thanks (big les Mitton and Moscow 1). Publicity is needed by morons but only close people know who I am so that’s the end of that story. Airforce 1 should realise that ordinary people whether they are white, black, brown or even green can live in harmony anywhere on our planet if politicians didn’t screw things up. Smerrick Eric and his sidekick Steve B are as blind as bats and a prostitute of 40 years standing could still convince them that she was a virgin. Wolves belong to the people and the people who hold the keys today need to realise that. Progress means moving on and up and excess baggage needs to be left at the bottom of the hill. I think that I’ve made myself clear, FINALLY.

We need all Wolves fans to get behind the Team no matter your stance on management, players or whatever else. I will be shouting across the pond to hope that helps.
