Wolves’ end of season awards dinner was an extra special evening for one youngster – the Express & Star’s Fan of the Year.

Harry Cartwright was presented with his trophy by manager Mick McCarthy for his unique contribution to the profile of the club at the £100-a-head bash attended by 825 guests at Telford International Centre last night.

The 14-year-old from Penn, who attends Highfields School, has led a successful campaign to have a locomotive named Wolverhampton Wanderers after attracting 1,200 supporters via a Facebook campaign.

The train will be unveiled at a ceremony in Wolverhampton on September and it will be seen on routes nationwide, as well as on the Eurotunnel after Wolves became only the fourth club to have a locomotive named in their honour.

“It was a great night,” said Harry, who attended the gala bash with dad Daniel. “It was brilliant to meet the players and manager Mick McCarthy – and I definitely think we’re going to stay up.”

Elsewhere, winger Matt Jarvis was the big winner on the night, scooping both Player of the Year awards from fans and players, with striker Kevin Doyle and Wayne Hennessey completing the shortlist for both awards.

The winger was the overwhelming choice of his team-mates.

“He’s been outstanding this season,” said utility man Stephen Ward.

“Every team we play recognise him as one of the main threats. He’s caused problems to some of the best full-backs in the country.”

Captain Karl Henry added: “No one has a bad word to say about Matt Jarvis. He always has a smile on his face and has worked so hard for his rewards.”

Jarvis, who added his award to Player of the Year, Goal of the Season and Young Player of the Year gongs he won at Gillingham, said: “I think I’ve got more confident in myself and shown people what I can really do.

“The fans have been fantastic ever since I’ve been here and I’m sure they’ve had a helping hand in getting me into the England squad.”

Arch rivals Albion featured heavily is some of the more celebrated footage, with Jamie O’Hara’s glorious 25-yard opener at The Hawthorns earning Goal of the Season from a list of eight and the 3-1 win over the Baggies voted Champagne moment.

The evening was completed with a superb performance from soul and R and B singer Lemar.
