Michael Mancienne’s biggest reward

Wolves utility man Michael Mancienne has admitted Premier League survival would top promotion.

The 22-year-old on-loan Chelsea defender has played a part in the last three seasons for Wolves over three different loan spells.

With Mick McCarthy’s team a point clear of the relegation zone with two games left, Mancienne believes survival this time would top the achievement of staying up last season and earning a Championship winner’s medal the year before.

He said: “It would definitely top winning promotion because of the pressure on us and because everyone expects us to go down.

“Hopefully we can prove them all wrong.”

Mancienne is due to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and remains in the dark about his future plans, after Wolves refused to pay Chelsea’s £5million asking price last summer.

He said: “I’ve got to go back to Chelsea but beyond that, I can’t say what’s going to happen because I don’t know myself.

But he has welcomed the chance to keep Wolves safe again and revealed he has always believed the team can stay up.

“We’ve always maintained the belief we can do it and the gaffer has always kept us going.

“But we’ve always felt that way anyway.”
