Michael Kightly: We will fight to the end
Friday 29th April 2011, 2:00PM BST.
Michael Kightly feels Wolves have four cup finals to save their Premier League lives — and vowed they will fight all the way.
Wolves go to Birmingham on Sunday before the Black Country derby at home to Albion seven days later followed by a trip to boss Mick McCarthy’s former club Sunderland and a Molineux crunch game against relegation rivals Blackburn.
Kightly admits Wolves’ renowned battling spirit was absent in Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Stoke, but assured fans it will return for the last four matches.
“We’ve got four games left and they’re four cup finals – and the chance to put things right starts against Birmingham on Sunday,” said the winger, whose start in midweek was his first competitive one since October 31, 2009 — also at the Britannia Stadium.
“We have to guarantee that spirit and fighting quality even if we can’t guarantee results. We’re going to fight every minute to survive in this league.
“We didn’t do it at Stoke but are determined to do it over the last four games.
“For the five seasons I’ve been here, the number one rule has always been to fight and battle when times are tough, even if we’re not playing well.
“That didn’t seem to happen against Stoke, which was disappointing.
“The way we lost just was not us — even if we end up losing we have to go down fighting.
“There’s nobody in the dressing room that didn’t come off that pitch absolutely gutted — we all know it wasn’t acceptable.”
Kightly believes Wolves may have an advantage playing derbies because anything can happen on the day.
“We’ve got two big derbies now,” he said.
“They say form goes out of the window and we haven’t been great form-wise in the last four games.
“So if it does go out of the window hopefully the derbies will inspire us.
“If we can start well and win the early battles on Sunday, we’ve got a chance of getting the right result.”

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
