Sam Vokes setting sights on goal
Saturday 23rd April 2011, 12:29PM BST.
Recalled Wolves striker Sam Vokes today underlined his determination to back the club’s survival bid by scoring his first Premier League goal.
The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season with a torn hamstring, but recent spells at Sheffield United and Norwich have helped him regain match sharpness, writes Stuart Hodge.
Vokes found the net for both clubs and now wants to repay his manager’s faith by doing the same for Wolves.
“Hopefully I can be involved,” said Vokes.
“If I do get on it will just be a case of doing what I can and if I can get a first Premier League goal as well, then fantastic.
“I’ve got through my injury now and went out to Sheffield United in January and got some games there and went to Norwich and did the same.
“I managed to score a couple of goals and it’s now good to come back and hopefully play a part here.
“If I’ve got something a bit different to offer up front then great and that’s what I’ll be trying to do if the gaffer gives me the nod.”
The Wales international only heard that he was returning to his parent club before featuring for the Canaries in their derby win at Ipswich on Thursday night.
“I was only told about it on Thursday before we were going to play at Ipswich,” he said.
“We won the game 5-1 and I got quarter of an hour at the end. Then it was a case of packing my things and getting back here.”
