Wolves boss ready to reap benefits
Thursday 21st April 2011, 10:00AM BST.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has declared his players are ready to reap the benefits of his ‘back to basics’ approach against Fulham on Saturday.
McCarthy has spent a chunk of the two-week break without a game on the training ground, ‘walking through’ players’ jobs with them after heavy defeats to Newcastle and Everton.
And the manager believes his squad will be fully switched on and ready when the Cottagers clash gets underway.
He said: “Training has been great. It’s important to remember it’s never too late in a season to get back to basics.
“Players like to have a clear understanding of what’s needed in certain situations. We’ve been working on how we play and doing what we do particularly well, our basics and doing them well.
“They like to be told because the first time it goes wrong they come and ask the bench what they should do. They need to know that.
“Now let’s see if we can get the result we need.”
McCarthy admitted avoiding mistakes can never be guaranteed.
He said: “You can never be completely sure that mistakes are behind you because – by definition – mistakes are accidents and errors which come along accidentally.
“Nobody knows why they are going to happen or where or when.”
