Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Andy Keogh to remain at Wolves
Friday 15th April 2011, 11:09AM BST.
Forgotten forward Andy Keogh will remain at Wolves after his permanent move to Bristol City fell through.
The 24-year-old is currently back at Compton undergoing treatment on a back injury.
But, even if he returns to the West Country to complete his loan to the end of the campaign, Keogh will be back at Molineux next month.
City manager Keith Millen said: “When you look at the types of forward we’ve got he’s quite similar.
“I’m looking to get a balance to the squad and have different options in different areas.”
Keogh, who wanted to rejoin Leeds last summer only for the Whites to be put off by the £2million asking price, has another 15 months on his contract after signing a two-year extension in February 2009.
But, after a patchy season, Wolves know Keogh wouldn’t be able to command that sort of fee.
The Republic of Ireland international arrived at Bristol City at the end of January and has scored once in nine games, the last five of them all ending in victories.
It’s his second ‘view to a permanent’ move that has fallen through in 2010-11 after his season-long loan at Cardiff ended in January.
Keogh scored twice in 18 games for Dave Jones’ side, but was behind Craig Bellamy, Jay Bothroyd and Michael Chopra in the pecking order.

Classic example of refusing to foster a youngster who had some promise like Volkes, and bringing in ‘name’ players as example ‘Fletcher”Hunt…..neither any better than Keogh and Volkes , and both older.
Wolves must hold onto Keogh especially if we are playing Championship football next year
Report abuse
Keogh was never worth £2M and after this season out on loan he’s showed exactly why. He’s useless and CAN’T score even though he’s a striker!
If this is what we have to look forward to next season then I can’t wait.
Who’s idea was it to give him a new long term contract last year I wonder, only to then try and offload him in the summer, when it was clear no one was going to buy him?
Looks like we’re stuck with him now and if we go down, no doubt Keogh will be leading the charge to get us back up as we look to sell Doyle, Fletcher and Jarvis!
Angry Wolf, you are a NUMPTY! Do you not have ambition or an ounce of ability to recognise that Keogh was just not good enough for Wolves….. another player that Mick thought was fantastic, but falls over if the wind gets up.
We need quality over quantity and need to get rid of the dead wood, I’ll leave you to make your mind up who that is, and I’m sure your opinion would not represent 90+ percent of the Wolves fans on here!
1. Angry, would Bristol take Fletcher or Hunt or Vokes?
If Keogh pulls on a Wolves shirt again I’d be amazed and disappointed.
I think he’d do a job for Walsall though until his contract runs out
Report abuse
Angry wolk, what planet are you on? If he is that good why could’nt he get in poor championship teams?
how can you say that about fletcher? Keoght has scored 1 prem goal in his career. How many has flecther got? then look at home many games they have played you idiot!
He is just another one of MM useless signings, if he was any good he would have been sighned by a Championship side goals scored speek for themselves.
Hopefully when MORGAN and MOXLEY have the bottle to get rid of MM the new manager will unload all the rubbish MM has signed.
I suppose he will be in the side along with WARD I despair.

”’IMO”’ ive put that first, because i know i’ll get slated for what i say. But a ‘fully-fit’ Andy Keogh would be an ideal replacement for Kevin Doyle, i believe he’s a natural to replace him, has he can do everything he does, he will ‘run / work’ all match he’s good at holding the ball up, he’s excellent at creating space ,and bringing other players into play, he uses the flanks well, and good at timing his runs into the box,and scores a few goals too. But i know he’s not popular with lots of fans,,but as i say its ‘IMO’ UTW:

Deano,
I’ll think you’ll find Angry wolf is actually a HAPPY CLAPPER. You would be classed as a numpty?
thats how i grade the wolves fans civil war, or have we started mixing it up? Im really cunfused now which side i belong too??
I would be most grateful if someone could give a full and clear explanation of:
a) A NUMPTY
B) A HAPPY CLAPPER

I for one have never thought of AK, as a out-out striker, when he played at Scunthorpe, he played alongside Billy Sharp, who always scored loads of goals, but if you checked them out i wonder how many Andy Keogh made for him? AK to me is provider of goals not a out-out goalscorer.UTW:

You can see that keogh is in agony with his bad back just by looking at the above picture its all twisted and bent ,please give the guy a break.

1 goal in 9 in the Cahmpionship sums Keogh up. I just hope we don’t go down. If we do he’ll be back in the team next year when Doyle goes. Oh and once Jarvis is snapped up we’ll have Ward on the left.
Welcome home boys.

Remember Andy Mutch? And the legend Steve Bull? They played many years together, but how many goals did AM score, compared to SB? But how many goals did Mutch create/make for Bully, even tho at times he could have scored himself, but instead chose to pass/square it for Bully to simply tap in????? UTW:

I constantly resist posting on here coz it’s full of doom and gloom merchants and swampies pretending to be Wolves fans, but it does crack me up when ‘knowledgeable’ fans can’t even spell our players name!!! FFS….it’s VOKES and Jez’s name is MOXEY, not Moxley. Morons
Report abuse
Deano,do try and say something original, or maybe you are not up to it, would not surprise me.
I agree that Keogh was not up to Premiership standard, but then nor were any of our players in the early part of the season of the season , yet we sent Keogh and Volkes away on loan, and spent 15 or so million bringing in three other Championship standard players. Clever that !!
You mentioned that Keogh ‘fell over if the wind gets up’ have a really good look at our highest paid player, Doyle, that is if he ever plays for Wolves again, who spends a great deal of match time on the deck as well, because like Keogh, Doyle is a light weight in every sense of the word, and neither he or Keogh are the strikers Wolves were looking for.
Be honest, the three players Wolves spent approx 15million on have done little or nothing to assist Wolves, and were a massive mistake Lets face it, how many goals has our record signing striker scored for Wolves this season??? We should never have signed him.
I have little doubt that next year, when Wolves are playing Championship football, that neither Doyle, Fletcher or Hunt will be in the ‘Old Gold’ rather playing for other Championship clubs or in a lower division.
I would expect that Keogh and Volkes will still be at Wolves, and given the appointment of a decent Manager, will be of some value to our Club.

Keogh is a striker who creates which is why he is perfect for the 4-4-2 Mick wants to play.. Play him alongside Blakey or fletch

….and there we go again. Anyone wanna enter into a sweepstake as to how many ‘numpties’ can’t spell our players’ names? angry wolf, you can go 1st….

12 Tomwolf – I know it was in the right spirit. But your being harsh on AM’s score rate. 96 goals in 230 apps. Quality striker. Shame he was always in Bullys shadow. True Wolves Legend……with the best ‘waddleing’ running style….and the simplest chant ever produced by the Southbank!!

Keogh was the second worst footballer that Mick has signed in his reign… Elokobi being the first.
Keogh is/was about as useless as they come. No great passing ability, not great in the air, can’t really shoot, not good at linking up play. there’s a reason why we can’t sell him… he just isn’t good enough.
He can run the channels (i.e get out of the way when we’re going forward) but as a footballer he is no good. Telford have beeter forwards on their books.
With a bit of luck his contract will be terminated by mutual consent and we can all move on from the Keogh episode.
If he ever pulls on a Wolves shirt again in the Premiership I’m going to walk out, i’ve got a 6 year old who’d do a better job.

Great News – I was only thinking the other day, whilst we are in dire needs of a striker, why don’t we get Keough & the Hoff back – to give us that final push for premiership survival? – Shame we sent Marcu Bent back as well

Oh, look, there’s the other one……IT’S KEOGH!!! NOT KeoUgh

Here we go again the “low life” coming on and saying they are Wolves fans – yet can’t even spell their names, having a go at Mick, because it’s easier to put it in the paper rather than having the guts to go to the ground and telling him to his face – COWARDS!
Keogh is injured?????? and yet all you “true” fans are having a go at him, true fans do not -DO NOT keep on knocking the players.
You are gutless, backstabbing morons that don’t deserve to be associated with any club let alone the Wolves, now go away and shout at your wives or little sisters there’s good boys.
We are Wolves……………Your NOT!

The fact the mighty Keogh can’t even get into Bristol’s team says all you need to know about the player. Absolutely shocking.
“ooooh, remember his game at Derby” – Yawn.

Encouraging to see he’s not been wasting his spare time -he’s nearly managed to colour his arm in.

Keogh deserves a little more credit & respect than he is getting on here to be fair.
No doubt that Wolves have moved on whilst Keogh seems to have stood still in his development. But he played a big part in helping into this division, his link up with SEB & the midfield was excellent & helped us create chances with hard work & movement. He also tried his best even when played out of position.
I don’t know why he hasn’t developed over the last couple of years, some players just plateau where as others kick on, but he did a good job for us & it’s a shame he turned out to be a predecessor to the kind of stick that now gets handed out to Ward & Henry.

Kentish Wolf…A very good, honest and informed post, I for one fully agree and have not forgotten his contribution to get us into the Premiership, and MM decision to drop him off in favour of other Championship players he brought in
I would also like to be associated with the post from ‘Johnwolf’…could not agree more, and the back stabbing morons you refer to know who they are. Don’t they…MikeQB and Deano…We really don’t need them on this forum, and lets hope the moderator can do something about them

As number 6 said, it is yet another one of Micks poor signings. The title “Andy Keogh to remain at Wolves” is an utter joke, if anybody thinks we will survive in the premiership with players like him we deserve to go down!
Some Wolves fans try and praise and provide credit for Keogh because he had the odd occastional game where he actually managed to kick a ball, the best position for this lad is on the bench. How he ever became s forward is very questionable.
Morgan and Moxey really need to cash in on players like Keogh and for e.g. Halford because they aint got no future at Wolves and the players are just wasting their time. Cash in and spend some £££££ on decent prem players.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels totally uncomfortable about the vitriol that is ladled out on some of our players. What does it achieve?

KentishWolf – your happy clapping drivel is taking us down into the championship. It’s people like you that club most definately doesn’t need.
Keogh was utterly useless, proven by the fact no one in championship actually wants him.
You’ve spouted your drivel all season along with Billy Quiet, Farmer Ted and the rest of know it all happy clappers. You’ll all be proven wrong at the end of the season, but your happy clapping will no doubt go on and on regardless of who’s in charge, or who plays in this god damn awful team we all have to watch.
I suggest you take off your rose tinted spectales and grab a slice of reality for once in your life.

Doyle injured.
Who is the Nr 1 Keeper?
At least when Ward was included we were getting results.
Does anyone know about Edwards.
That leaves Jarvis On his Bike, and cant think of any really decent players in the Squad.

Shifnal – I don’t think it’s unreasonable to acknowledge the efforts of a player who contributed to our development into a promotion winning side.
To say he was “utterly useless” is just nonsense. I’ll give you, that as a striker, he never scored enough & this was often frustrating in tight games, but his movement & work rate were two valuable assets to his game that served us well. We often looked a more fluent & mobile side going forward with him in the team at that level.
As I said, we moved on & he seems to have stood still. Which is a shame, but it doesn’t take away from what he did for us back then.
Finally, if you think anything I’ve posted this season will be proven right or wrong come of the end of this season, you’ve clearly not being understanding my points.

I see the MENSA crowd are out in force again, I take it theres a lot of velcro shoes about too. It really is a wonder that anybody ever signs for us with the vitriol that awaits them from our ‘support’ should they not be the player they want – Keogh, like so many others before him, is just a stick to use, for those who don’t like Mick (mainly because you all thought Freddy was the next god and he proved you all wrong)

32) Kentish Wolf. Hello, I’ve been named and shamed along with your self as a happy clapper, whatever that is.
You are wasting your time with the likes of 28)ShifnalWolf. You can see from the the personal abuse he hands out to people he doesn’t know and his lack of understanding of the game that he along with a few others is a lost cause. He’s probably never kicked a ball in his life and spends his time trying to work out how the quiz machine in the pub works. These sort of people get very frustrated because they can’t even talk a good game never mind play one. So they form the Paper Tigers FC
I played a bit myself, not the highest level, unfortunately, but enough to know we need to raise our game and fight for survival right now, not wave the white flag in this cowardly way.
If trying to be positive and contructive whilst recognising our weaknesses is happy clapping then so be it.
Get ready for the abuse.

28, Go back to you own site. Not even the most negative wolves fan would spout such crap.

Angry, how you can come on here moaning again about wolves players etc. Is beyond me. Keogh plays up front and constantly makes the wrong decisions. His passing is dire and his goalscoring record is worse. He holds the ball up when we are in a 3 or 4 vs 2 situation. You have a point with vokes, but keogh? Do me a favour.
We need fans to get behind the team that we have, not slag them off at every opportunity.
This is one Jez Moxey got wrong by slapping the £2million fee on him .If you want £2m for a striker Jez,it helps if the player can score a few goals. What price we have him next season warming the bench and then he goes on a free.It would have been better all round if he had been sold to Leeds for say a million, but greed and misjudgement got in the way.
How anyone can say fletcher is only as good as Keogh is beyond me!
Fletcher 12 premiership goals in very poor burnley side, and 7 goals for us after spending most of the time on the bench. keogh is in the same mould as ward, Collins , mancieene etc, will run around all day like a headless chicken BUT is totally USELESS, and this is why he couldn’t make it at Cardiff or Bristol city who I might add are in the….. CHAMPIONSHIP
Report abuse
I think we will be lucky to recoup the 600k i think it was we paid for him now. Cant fault his effort and work rate but he just cant cut it as a striker. One of the most frustrating players i have seen because he did show glimpses of potential, especially in his first season when him and kightly played some brilliant one and two touch football. I hope it works out for him wherever he goes but his time is over at wolves in my opinion.
Give hime a chance – why so much negativity? Oh what short memories we have – Derby away, clinched promotion. Class player, just needs some encouragement. We have a history of letting strikers go, who we think haven’t made the grade – Bothroyd, Jason Roberts, Kelley, Freedman, Roberts …. who go on to bigger things! There’s only one Keough!!!!!

To shut so called Wolves fans up on here… Yes Andy Keogh is not good enough to play for Wolves at present and he is injured anyway but if he is that bad why does he play for the Republic of Ireland? Do not tell me that Trapatonni is clueless as he is a proven manager!
No 45 rob. I’m not knocking you mate because you come on here and make some very good points BUT this is same trapatonni who doesn’t rate the football wolves play at all, doesn’t rate Mick as a manager, and has countless times told Doyle to leave to further his career. I recall once Mick telling him to mind his own business.
Now if like you say GT isn’t clueless as a manager does this mean he is correct about wolves and Mick ?

6. Who, please tell, is Moxley???
Keep him if we can’t get a decent fee for him and convert him into an attacking midfielder. He is like Doyle in some respects i.e. he can run all day long, so maybe he will be alot better at creating chances for the strikers then he is for himself.
