Wolves don’t need to sell Matt Jarvis

Wolves don’t need to sell Matt Jarvis

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has moved to clarify the club’s position over Matt Jarvis by insisting ‘we don’t need to sell.’

McCarthy was irritated at the way his comments on there being “lots of interest” in his star winger were reported over the weekend.

The manager used the example of Fernando Torres and Andy Carroll leaving Liverpool and Newcastle respectively to suggest that players will leave if big clubs offer crazy money and wages.

Chief executive Jez Moxey also told the last Wolves Fans’ Parliament that stars may be sold if the club was relegated.

But, while there has been plenty of talk that Liverpool are tracking new England cap Jarvis, McCarthy insisted the club will not be seeking to cash in on any of their stars this summer.

He said: “I thought the stories at the weekend were ‘bull’ after what I’d said, but it didn’t surprise me.

“At this moment in time, there’s no reason why we’d want to sell anyone, nor any necessity to sell anyone at all.

“We don’t want to sell anyone, and there’s no reason why we should under any circumstances.

“And if we did, it would only be after a discussion between owner Steve Morgan, Jez and myself.

“I was just being honest because there are certain things that you just can’t stop.

“If Chelsea offer £50million for Torres and the player £200,000 a week, and he wants to go and live in London, he isn’t going to stay is he?

“I someone offers £35million for Andy Carroll and whatever he’s on, then he’s not stopping, despite everyone’s protestations.

“I wish the would just come out and say ‘the offer’s too good to turn down and this is going to go ahead.’

“I’d think supporters, if say they’re a fireman or a binman and someone offers them the chance to earn three times their money to work somewhere else and guarantee them a seven-year contract, they would all go.”

McCarthy believes the reported interest in Jarvis from Liverpool may be credable – but not the link with Saturday’s opponents Everton.

The Wolves boss said: “I could understand Liverpool being interested, because they have got Andy Carroll and they want someone to cross it for him. They haven’t got any wingers really.

“But Everton haven’t got any money. It’s nonsense.”

Matty wont stay if we get relegated and i dont blame him for wanting to play at the highest level he has been a great player for us and has always given 110% everytime he plays

Bk to the game on saturday…..

Sorry but what do you expect from a team that was given 4 days off by mick to prepare for this game

Sorry but the players decided to go to Dubai and lay on a beach sipping cocktails to prepare for this game

Sorry but the players do not have the bottle for the relagation fight!

Sorry but who could imagine west ham, blues, west brom or blackpool players being given that time off and flying off to Dubai not only during the season but during a relegation battle?!

Maybe danielle lloyd should not of tweeted quote ”sorry for the late replies have been on holiday to Dubai with mr jamie ohara, his wolves team mates and their wives”

All players deserve their rest but why not do it AFTER the season has finished not DURING it and making all us fans look like mugs

They didnt look up for the game cause they were still ”on the beach” mode

Personally I don’t understand why there is any talk of Jarvis possibly leaving.
Obviously Wolves would not be anxious to sell even for crazy money, so just let the media and other clubs do their ‘posturing’ and forget all about it.
Jarvis has not to my mind made any noises about wanting to leave, if he did so, then that would be another matter altogether.
If Wolves were like many other clubs in desperate need of cash then I could understand it but as that is not the case then why bother to offer comments at all?
Moxey’s comments were like many he makes, unnecessary and of bad timing and should only be made only if a situation such as relegation became a reality – which hopefully it will not!

Let’s just concentrate on the matter in hand: staying up. All this business about who might play for England or who might leave in the summer means nothing to most fans right now. Preservation of our status as a club is what matters, not the prospects of individuals.

Well i thought Jez had got ALL our main players tied down on long term contracts? Then we hear Morgan saying we dont need to sell players for our New Stadium ,that money is already set aside. So why have we heard these same comments coming out of MM mouth for the last two seasons? Its has if he’s touting his players for sale, testing the water to see who’s interested in buying our ‘Top’ players. As a supporter it irk’s me so much, for a start when Newcastle went down they got rid of the deadwood, but kept their ‘best’ players, and looked what happened to them, straight back into the PL. Plus i heard their ‘top players’ Nolan,Carroll,Barton, etc ALL pledged their future to NU for at least one more season, cause it was our fault we went down, so we owe it to our fans to stay and fight to get promotion next season back to the PL. Thats the attitude i like and expect to hear from these ‘very over paid and overated’players.I know jarvis hasn’t asked for a transfer, yes he’s a excellent footballer who’s come on so much since he’s been at Wolves. But he’s only played 25mins+ for England. Yet Steve Bull played in a ‘WORLD CUP’ and NEVER once asked for a transfer, yet he could have left us many times to play in the Highest League. So its about time these so called ‘Top’ players in our club who have signed ‘long term contracts’ show our club and fans some ”LOYALTY” UTW:

if the rumours are true come the transfer window then MM and morgen are not gonna think twice about selling our best assets obviously depending on what league we r in.

but my advice to jarvis would be look at the likes of torres who has moved form a club where he was settled and scoring goals to a bigger team where he crnt perform.

All this goes without saying and that’s the problem. Just don’t say anything. Whatever Mick says will be taken out of context or exaggerated and it doesn’t change anything or help matters to speculate about players anyway.

We all know that if we go down Jarvis will leave, probably along with Doyle, so lets just say nothing and try and stay in the league. That’s are only chance of keeping these players and even then, like Mick says, if they want to go they’ll leave.

I fear only a win on Sat will be sufficient. I think we may need to win all of our home games, as our away record is so poor. I still think we need at least another three victories to stay up.

Put Sat behind us and let’s recapture the form of the last few weeks.

This is a simple one for me, clubs who get relegated don’t have as much bartering power as clubs in the Prem (obviously).

If we do get relegated (I will cry) and I think we should sell and buy as follows:

    Sell
    Jarvis – 7m to 9m
    Doyle – 7m to 9m
    Milijas – 2m to 3m
    Hunt – 2m to 3m

This would see us bring in around 20 mil, also release people who’s contracts are up to bring the wages down a bit, goodbye Craddock, Dave Jones and USA and obviously O’Hara and MM would go back to parent clubs.

We then need to buy a striker who will score goals at chumpionship level to compete with SEB and Fletch, Danny Graham anyone? After buying a striker I wouldn’t buy anyone else as we have a very talented youth team who we need to start being brought through like Danny Bath, Mendez-Laing, Zeli Ismail etc these lads need to be given their chance, no home grown player has come through yet in the McCarthy era.

If we do manage to pull it off and stay up I wouldn’t sell Jarvo unless someone bid stupid money for him (15 mil would get me thinking), then sign O’Hara permanently and please to god Mick sign a left back and a centre half, decent ones tho.

I like any other Wolves fan really hope we can do it and stay up, but if the worst does happen as long as we are sensible we should be ok to bounce straight back.

All of this is academic, if Wolves are relegated and it sure looks likely, players with any skill attached to Wolves will be looking to move to further their careers. Matt Jarvis is one such person being paid ‘dillidy squat’ at Wolves compared to the offers he will be facing at the end of this season, and there is no way that Wolves will attempt to compete.
Its certain, if Wolves are relegated Jarvis will be off, even if Wolves scrape home, Jarvis will go anyway, Wolves will be powerless to keep him.

As much as Matt is under contract didn’t he sign a long term one last season every player has their price.

The club can go on record saying that he is not for sale. But with Liverpool, Man City and now Man Utd reputedly interested, we face a massive battle to hold on to Matt irrespective of the division we find ourselves in next season.

If Man Utd are considering 15mil on Ashley Yound who is out of contract at the end of next season. What price Matty Jarvis?

2 – The reason the club make comments like this is to try and reassure us, the fans, that the club do intend on holding onto our best players. I wouldn’t say this is a bad thing & given the many accusations about a lack of ambition, I wouldn’t say it was unfair of them to want to point it out.

Unfortunately what they don’t take into account is fans like our friend at number 4, Tomwolf, appear to suffer such acute paranoia, that the club are very much in a no-win situation when it comes to certain members of the clubs support. Why? well for one we have got decent cover in Kites, Hammill and Hunt.

Secondly we could sign a decent centre half and left back so as to improve the current bunch of drunkard YMCA dancing buffoons we currently have as our back four.

If we are relegated, then that is a different matter and may trigger interest from a number of clubs not just Liverpool.

On the basis that all players are for sale if you offer enough money, it maybe that he would be sold.

    Sir Billy

I have to take issue here with you.

Firstly, this is one player. It’s not like people are scrambling to buy all our players. I’ve only heard of Jarvo and perhaps Doyle

So, we aren’t really developing a great premiership squad that everyone wants. I think both Wigan and Blackpool for instance, have more ‘appealing’ players, if you listen to press speculation anyway.

I think you are right, numpties like me will think the management are preparing to cash in. Perhaps strenghtened by the signing of Hammil in addition to Hunt and Kightley. We do seem to have an abundance of wingers after all.

But, I dont think there is an overall plan to get us relegated. I just think that we will end up being relegated which will throw all our plans into doubt, and of course we’ll need to cash in on players, because of the huge debt the club is preparing to take on in developing a new ground which we dont need.

    Fill in the corners anyone??

ps. just for the doubters, hoping for a good win against Everton, as we definately need to win ALL our remaining home games. It’s defo going to the wire!

The last time I looked we hadn’t been relegated and therefore why assume that because we have lost one game we will be, there are still alot of points to play for and alot of crucial games left, our home games are must wins and whatever we can get away will be a bonus so keep the faith people get behind the team and leave out all the negativity.

RichWolf64 – Have you actually read any of the details behind the stadium re-development ? If you had, you’d have noticed that 2 of the biggest reasons why we’re doing it is to increase non-match day revenue by having better corporate facilities in the new stands, therefore meaning the stadium can earn the club money every day of the year, not just on home matches, and also to move the fans closer to the pitch to improve the “match day experience”. Neither of these things will happen by “filling in the corners”.

Also, can i assume you were quite happy when for a couple of seasons we only had 2 recognised wingers at the club ? You weren’t slating McCarthy or not buying a winger as cover ? This is the first time under McCarthy we’ve actually had an adequate number of wingers at the club. Hammill was signed to add strength & depth to the squad, not with a long term aim of selling on Jarvis.

People keep banging on about keeping our top players! Why? We were in a relegation fight for most of last season and are in one again. If this is what we do with our top players then God help us, I advocate selling Jarvis if we get a very good offer, also Fletcher should go particularly if we can get our money back (which seems unlikely), Hunt to, as he (despite being out injured for long periods) hasn’t really cut it. Hennessey can go as well, as I haven’t seen that much of an improvement from him this season and he should command a decent fee as he’s an international. With the money these players bring in we could get some really decent (class) players. If not permanently then certainly on loan, the likes of Welbeck spring to mind. We should also get O’Hara on a permanent basis (if we go down he might not want to come though) if we can. I’m sure there are plenty of players at the larger premier league clubs (who are better than what we have got) who would jump at the chance of regular football with us, rather than warming the bench or playing for the reserves as they currently do. As someone has already stated we should also give chances to our up and coming home grown players from the youth team.

I think you have fallen for the ‘corporate’ line here.

The fact is, building the new stand will use much needed funds for the team and will also saddle the club with debt. Both of these are fact. The club is struggling to fill the ground already and corporate revenues are down and not up.

There’s £15 million ‘ring fenced’ for the club stadium. This is out of player funds, or, Morgans original investment, whichever way you prefer to look at it.

I’m not suggesting we never re-develop our ground,I’m suggesting we start looking at it at a time when we have cemented a place in the premiership. At the moment, we look very likley to be relegated, so building a new stand at the same time as relegation is absolutely folly in my book.

You’ll find corporate revenues nigh on evaporate when we play our trade in the Championship. Corporate revenues and the preimiership go pretty much hand in hand.

And, moving closer to the pitch. Not a bad idea, but having sat in the Steve Bull for the past 30 years I’m kind of used of not being so close to the pitch now. So not sure
who exactly is asking to be moved closer to the pitch.
