Joy for Jarvis but Kightly is flying high

Matt Jarvis might have just won an England cap but fellow Wolves winger Michael Kightly insists he is living the dream.
Jarvis returned to Wolves today a fully-fledged England international as he milked the congratulations of his proud team-mates following his first cap against Ghana on Tuesday and began preparations for Saturday’s trip to Newcastle.
Yet such is the elation written all across Kightly’s face these days, that you could be forgiven for thinking it was the other way around. While the reason for Jarvis’ happiness is clear, Kightly is yet to regain his profile after two years of injury hell.
Now aged 25, the former Grays man who did as much as anyone to light up Wolves’ charge to the Championship title two years ago could make his senior return in some form at Newcastle this Saturday.
After coming through three reserve games, Kight-ly’s name did not figure in the line-up for last night’s second string outing at Blackpool. Perhaps significantly, his absence indicated he is finally closing in on a cherished recall.
When it comes, it will be a special moment in Kightly’s life after too many darker ones to revisit. “Jarvo has said it’s everyone’s dream to play for your country and it is mine,” said Kightly.
“But I thought there were times when I’d never play football again and that was tough. So to be playing again now is my dream. “But although it is an ambition of mine to play for England, to talk about it isn’t even on my mind.”
Kightly is as delighted as anyone at Jarvis’ stunning emergence over the last few years. After all, if you were to say one of the two wingers would gain a full England cap with-in two years of that Championship title charge, most people’s money would have been on Kightly, the man whose eight goals and 19 ass-ists were a key to Wolves’ success.
But 16 months after his last first-team game, Kightly admits he is starting all over again. “Nothing surprises me in football anymore — it’s a crazy game, but also as quick as you can go from bottom to top, you can also get forgotten about,” he said.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
