Four to eight weeks out for Doyle
Monday 28th March 2011, 4:30PM BST.
Wolves have been left reeling from losing striker Kevin Doyle for between four to eight weeks.
The £6.5million man underwent scans earlier today that showed a tear in his medial knee ligament and caused him to limp out of the Republic of Ireland’s 2-1 Euro 2012 qualifying victory over Macedonia in Dublin after 17 minutes.
Doyle’s injury was caused by a bad tackle from behind by Nikolche Noveski.
Manager Mick McCarthy confirmed Doyle’s expected spell on the sidelines.
Rehabilitation times can vary with the injury, so Doyle still has a chance of playing this season if he recovers within the eight-week projected timespan.
Wolves head of medical department Steve Kemp said: “The scan has confirmed that Kevin has torn his MCL (medial collateral ligament).
“We will be working with Kevin to get him back as quickly as the injury allows but the likely timespan is anywhere between four and eight weeks.”
Doyle reported back to the Compton training ground this morning and his programme of treatment and rehabilitation will begin immediately.
The 27-year-old, who has missed just five League games this season, looks to have sustained a similar injury to Karl Henry, which kept the captain out for eight weeks.
