Derby glut for Wolves after Stoke switch
Saturday 26th March 2011, 11:30AM GMT.
Wolves today re-arranged their clash with Stoke for Tuesday, April 26 – kicking off three local derbies in a row.
Mick McCarthy’s side go to the Britannia Stadium for the Staffordshire derby exactly a month today before travelling to St Andrew’s to take on fellow strugglers Birmingham on Sunday (12 noon).
That is followed by the Black Country showdown which brings West Bromwich Albion to Molineux seven days later at 1pm.
The Stoke game had to be moved from Saturday, April 16 because the Potters play Bolton in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley that weekend.
Wolves now tackle Tony Pulis’ side three days after hosting Fulham.
McCarthy’s men will be aiming for the double after winning 2-1 on the opening day of the season, while their Staffordshire neighbours exacted their own revenge by knocking Wolves out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, captain and former Stoke midfielder Karl Henry declared Matt Jarvis as Wolves’ player of the year after his England call-up.
“He’s arguably been our best player this season and certainly our most effective player,” said Henry.
“As his team-mate, I’m certainly very proud he’s in there. It’s great to have someone from Wolverhampton Wanderers represented in the England camp and he thoroughly deserves it.”
Henry believes Jarvis’ call-up could be the catalyst that sees other Wolves players selected.
Henry’s form has improved since he was picked in Fabio Capello’s provisional squad for the recent friendly against Denmark.
“A call-up does give a player a massive boost to their confidence,” said Henry. “Being in the provisional squad was great and gave me a lift.
“If we manage to stay up and players continue to develop, why shouldn’t there be more getting through?”
Latest Blog — Same again for West Brom
What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.

Bring it on! Stearman will play for England if he continues his current rate of improvement next season. All those of you who come on with your ‘not even Championship quality’ lines should remember what young players can do when a bit of faith is shown in them.

So pleased that Matt Jarvis has been justly recognized.
With the best will in the World,Karl Henry, even at his very best is nowhere near good enough for England.
Stearman needs further improvement, but there is hope for him.

Not forgetting Steve ward our very own anfield silencer, Liverpool fans don’t like him, neither do the numpties who come on here, but wolves fans love him.

Next up will either be Ebanks-Blake, Henry or Stearman. They aren’t Championship players anymore, England might win something too!!

Here we go crazy internationals at important times of the season & players get injured. Looks like we are without Doyle for the remainder of the season thanks to these badly scheduled games.
Well Mick, you have being saying we have a squad of depth for sometime. Now we have lost our talisman which Steve will you give the position too – Fletcher or Ward? Surely it has to be Fletcher even over Seb!

If Richard Stearman concentrates on defending how he has been lately and saves his taking on players for opponents half I too can see a bright future for him.
Almost as bright as sunny Cornwall today.

Thought as much, Jarvo not in the side and didn’t even get onto the subs bench. Wish Cappelo would give him a game, instead of selecting him for the squad and then seemingly forgetting about him. Hope he gets a run out against Ghana.

Nah son. It’s time for Sylvain to shine – although Mick will probably play Wardy up front instead.

15) Clueless mate. Unlike your Tesco team, Wolves possess more than one good forward. We will be finishing above you at the end of the season and although your form has improved, the fixture list for you, is not good. Wigan and two out of these three to go – Albion, Blackpool or Blackburn!
