Matt Jarvis on first England session
Tuesday 22nd March 2011, 2:00PM GMT.
Wolves winger Matt Jarvis today declared “it’s like my first day back at school” after coming through his first England training session.
The 24-year-old also revealed he had received a text message from Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, whom he hopes to be facing in Saturday’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales at the Millennium Stadium.
And the wide man praised club manager Mick McCarthy for helping him become the first Wolves player since Steve Bull in October 1990 to be included in an England squad.
Jarvis, who was watched five times by England boss Fabio Capello before being selected, said: “I didn’t really know any of the squad personally, so it was like my first day at school again.
“But it was great meeting up with everyone and I was delighted with how it went. The training was short and sharp, which was nice – just what I wanted to get out there and obviously get more comfortable.
“I’ve had a lot of help along with the way, from Andy Hessenthaler, who gave me my first contract and first start at Gillingham, to Mick McCarthy and his staff at Wolves who have been fantastic in all aspects of helping me to get here.”
