Matt Jarvis an England star for Bully

Matt Jarvis an England star for Bully

Steve Bull has insisted Wolves winger Matt Jarvis could fill England’s problem wide left berth for years to come.

Wolves legend Bull has watched the winger make significant strides to improve his game, resulting in his selection for Saturday’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales and the friendly against Ghana three days later.

And Bully, the last Wolves man to play for England, in October 1990, believes 24-year-old Jarvis is ready to present a long-term solution to the wide-left berth populated by Joe Cole, Ashley Young and Stewart Downing in recent years.

The 45-year-old said: “I look at Jarvis and I think he could establish himself with England over the next couple of years. I honestly believe he could win 20 to 30 caps.

“It’s been a problem position for England, but Jarvis plays the role brilliantly for Wolves in the Premier League.

“He’s added consistency to his game, he’s quick, he works really hard, he beats his man, gets crosses in and is scoring goals himself.”

Two years ago, when Jarvis and Michael Kightly were tearing up the Championship, most people’s money would have been on the latter becoming first of the duo to win full international honours.

But no-one could foresee the horrendous run of luck with injuries that Kightly was to endure.

However, manager Mick McCarthy insisted that Jarvis has proved he’s worth his international chance.

The Wolves boss said: “They still have to get into the Premier League and do it – and Jarvis has done it.

“He’s been a real success story in the Premier League and that’s why he’s got into the England squad, not for what he did in the Championship. He’s earned it because of his performances in the Premier League against better players.

“It’s recognition for Jarvis but also for the club and the work that myself, Terry Connor, Ian Evans and Dave Bowman have done over almost five years.

“But most of all to ‘Jarvo’ – because of all the many players we’ve signed, there’s not many that have got as far, but he really has worked very hard.

“It’s fantastic and just reward for all the hard work he puts in. He really is a top bloke. He’s got his feet on the ground, he works hard, he’s very talented and he’s a lovely guy.

“We’re all immensely proud of him.”

Well Bully for one deserved more England recognition. Jarvis IMO is probably nailed on for Wolves player of the year and what sums up how well he has played this season is the way he ripped apart two England internationals in the Carling Cup – Wes Brown and Gary Neville! Well deserved and next up could be Stears and O’Hara but probably for Ireland. Another three much improved players that deserve a mention are Hennessey, Berra and Elokobi. Keep it up!

I watched Sky Sports News yesterday and it had a supplement dedicated to Jarvo’s call-up and Andy Hessenthaler was talking about what a great young lad he was always working hard and i thought to myself “thanks so much Andy for producing Jarvo and letting us have him” He been a pleasure to watch for last 4 years, never moans even if he is dropped, just gets on with it…cant stop smiling about the lads call up.

Gives me goosebumps seeing pics of him in just an England training top, so what will i feel like if he gets to play against Wales or Ghana?!?! haha!!

I echo what Solentwolves said where Jarvo thanks those who helped him in his early career….top bloke Jarvo so proud you wear the Wolves Gold & Black with pride!! Luv ya man so good luck and all the best mate!!

    Love da Wolves!!

Early bird season ticket sales up, Matty Jarvis in England squad, our first away win at Villa in over 30 years, the clock come down ahead of phase one of our new super-stadium. What a time to be a Wolves supporter.

No wonder the Tesco’s keep posting in jealousy on here, if it were the other way around I would be!!! A big stride has been made to catching Villa as the Midlands biggest club.

    16) I like it. All is left to do is beat Blues away – which we should have done last season – and then beat the Albion the following week. Do that and we will be safe!
