Jamie O’Hara enters Wolves folklore

Whatever happens this season on-loan Wolves midfielder Jamie O’Hara has carved his name into Black Country derby folklore.
The 24-year-old’s stunning 25-yard strike in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns in the first Premier League dust-up between the two old rivals made him an instant gold and black hero.
And O’Hara, who hopes to make his switch from Tottenham permanent in the summer, wants more of the same adulation after targeting more goals.
He said: “The lads said to me if you score in the derby, you can become a hero overnight with the fans.
“It was great to get a fantastic goal and hope I can keep putting in good performances for the team and hopefully give the fans something to be proud of at the end of the season.
“We’ve got Blackpool this week and hopefully I can get more goals under my belt.”
The goal finally gave him the chance to display his well-rehearsed celebration that he promised when he arrived at Wolves.
O’Hara ran to the fans, sucking his thumb before kissing the tattoos of girlfriend Danielle Lloyd and eight-month-old son Archie that are emblazoned on his forearms.
He said: “I was going to put a dummy in my sock but I thought ‘it’s a big local derby and probably not the right time to do it.’
I had the celebration for my fiancee and the baby. It’s fantastic being a dad. It was just something for them.
“My family have come with me everywhere and so it was fantastic to get a goal for them.
“We are moving next week to a place to rent in Birmingham – she’s loving it getting to know the other players’ wives and girlfriends.”
However, with seven of Wolves’ last 11 games against teams in the bottom half of the table, the player is focused on matters on the pitch.
And O’Hara has set his team the target of beating Albion on May 8 as revenge for Carlos Vela’s last-gasp equaliser that cancelled out his 39th-minute opener.
He said: “We’ve got to play them at home, so if we take four points over the two games we’ll be happy.
“We’ve got to look at it positively – win this weekend and we’re on course to stay up.
“These are the games we’ve got to win.”
O’Hara believes Wolves must show more belief in their ability to secure the results they need.
He said: “We’ve got a great squad with good players. We’ve got to take that into every game and be confident.
“It’s hard at the bottom, but you have to be confident in your ability and we’ve got a good enough squad to get out of trouble.
“We’ve just got to keep putting in performances. We were highly disappointed we didn’t win but if we’d scored in the last minute, we’d have all been buzzing, so we’ve got to be positive.
“I think we deserved to win.”
