Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

David Jones hoping for new deal
Saturday 5th February 2011, 11:29AM GMT.
David Jones today revealed contract talks with Wolves have been shelved until the summer – but he hasn’t given up on staying at Molineux.
The 26-year-old’s three-year deal expires in June and discussions have so far failed to reach agreement.
Newcastle, Bolton and Blackburn have all shown interest in the former Manchester United playmaker.
Jones could have signed a pre-contract agreement with a non-English club, just as former Molineux man Kenny Miller did with Celtic in 2006.
But the midfielder, who joined Wolves from Derby for £1.2m almost three years ago, is only focused on the club’s survival bid as he prepares to do battle today against the club where he started his career.
“I’ve played for Mick McCarthy for three years and you never know what might happen in the future,” said Jones.
“There’s still a chance of me staying, but the main priority for the club is staying in the Premier League and we’ll see where we are at the end of the season.
“I haven’t really thought much about it but I just want to play as much as I can and see what happens in the summer. Maybe we’ll talk then because it can always get sorted out.
“It’s not as if anything is ‘off the table’ at the moment, but from my point of view and everyone else at the club, we’re just trying to stay in the Premier League.”
Jones would have liked to have played more this term, but with added competition in the shape of new signings Adam Hammill and Jamie O’Hara, he knows he has to be ready, as was proved when he was recalled at Bolton on Wednesday night.
“Myself and the manager have had talks and I’ve told him I’m ready and focused to play my part,” said Jones. “I know there’s plenty of competition but I feel good within myself and I think I can complement those players who have been brought in.”
