Wolves told to focus on Bolton clash

Nenad Milijas today insisted Wolves must forget about their FA Cup defeat and focus on Wednesday’s clash at Bolton.

Milijas’s late penalty miss in yesterday’s 1-0 defeat against Stoke was the first of his career and he admitted he was disappointed with his effort which meant Mick McCarthy’s side have lost three on the bounce.

But the Serbia playmaker said he and his team-mates can’t afford to dwell on it as they prepare to return to the survival battleground at the Reebok Stadium in two days’ time.

“We need to forget about this game and concentrate on Bolton – but I can’t help thinking about Stoke and missing the penalty,” said Milijas.

“We need to turn things around and we need to think about the Bolton game and taking points there to stay in the Premier League.

“That’s the most important thing for us, the fans – everyone.

“We need to forget about Stoke and start concentrating on the Bolton game.

“Bolton are a good team and they played great against us here.

“We need to look at how they lost to Chelsea rather than how we lost to Liverpool.

“We have good players and I hope we can win it.

“If we play like we did against Stoke but keep a clean sheet and don’t make a mistake to allow them to score, I think we’ll be OK because I’m convinced we will score.”

Reflecting on his spot-kick horror, the 27-year-old, who scored penalties in the Carling Cup ties against Southend and Notts County this season, added: “I really thought I was going to get the equaliser from the penalty.

“I was really disappointed about the shot – I should have done better with it.

“I would have been happy to have put it anywhere provided it ended up in the net.

“It was the first penalty I’ve missed since I was a child and I’ve taken a lot.

“But we had many chances to have got something from the game.

“It was very hard – we tried to pass the ball on the pitch and I thought we did it well.”

Milijas revealed Wolves had been practising defending from setpieces – Stoke’s major strength – but were still undone by Robert Huth’s 81st minute header.

“It was disappointing to concede as we’d been working on defending them and we made one mistake and they scored,” said the midfielder.

“We had chances but we couldn’t score and they scored from a setpiece and they’re maybe the best in the Premier League at those.”
