Jamie O’Hara aims to boost Wolves’ survival fight
Monday 31st January 2011, 11:12AM GMT.
Jamie O’Hara today set his sights on getting straight into Wolves’ survival fight after sealing his loan move from Tottenham.
The 24-year-old midfielder has signed to the end of the season and is available to make his debut in Wednesday’s clash at Bolton after watching yesterday’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Stoke from the directors’ box.
And the former Portsmouth loan star is ready for immediate action despite not playing all season because of a back injury.
“I’ve played in a couple of friendlies and feel 100 per cent now,” he said. “I’m training today and will be looking to be involved against Bolton on Wednesday.
“I just want to do my best to help keep the club in the Premier League.”
Boss Mick McCarthy, who said further transfer activity was unlikely before tonight’s 11pm deadline, believes O’Hara will help the team.
“Jamie’s a good player who will add quality to our squad and hopefully improve us,” he said. “He’s recovered from his injury and may just need a bit of game time.”
O’Hara insists his experience last season at Pompey, where he won nine Player of the Year awards, will help and he reckons Wolves have a real chance of survival.
“I know what it’s all about at this end of the table and I know it’s going to be tough,” he said. “I’ve looked at the fixtures and I think we’ve got a decent run-in over the final few games.
“There are going to be a lot of teams involved but with those fixtures we’ve got I think there’s a really good chance of staying up.”
O’Hara turned down West Ham while there was also interest from Blackpool, but he said he had a good feeling about Wolves.
“There were a few clubs interested but Mick was the one who really pushed it and the one that I got good vibes about,” he said. “Once I came here I was really impressed with the place.”
Kevin Doyle missed yesterday’s game through illness but will be fit for Wednesday. Stephen Hunt suffered a calf strain yesterday and is a major doubt for midweek. “I can’t imagine he’ll be fit for then,” said McCarthy.
Wolves reserves face Manchester United at Telford tonight (7pm).

I dont know about anyone else but I feel so so disapointed with Wolves at the moment we just seem so negative ( the first half against Liverpool my point ) but also with this transfer window I dont think we should have bankrupt the club with massive new players but look what the blues and Albion have done it shows what can be done for nothing, Martins to Blues great signing Vela to Albion and even Robbie to West Ham and what have we got O’Hara. It Just makes me think we are gearing up for the Championship. Com on Mick at least have some pride and fight. Up the Wolves for ever

He will be a good signing if he stays fit, but who will be dropped that is the question? Surely he has to go straight into the team?
I just noticed warnock has gone to Forest on loan, again why didnt we try and get him? (i know we can only have 2 loan players but read they were talking about perm for 500k).
Lescott to sign last minute? Only a pipe dream!

MM says no more transfer activity is unlikely which means our defence is still weak. Oh well score more than what we let in will be the team talk now! Good luck Ohara.

I wonder if this means that the fragrant Danielle Lloyd will be popping into the Newhampton any time soon…?

I would like Jamie to do well for us, but a player who hasn’t played all season and has had a bad back, sums up our aspirations dosen’t it?
McCarthy told us at the start season no one would be coming in, and he has stuck to his word.
Wish a new Manager had come in.
The defence and midfield we have will not keep us up, why we bought Mouyo is a baffling.

Let’s hope he gets some full games and is not just sat on the bench as is the usual with Mick McCarthys signings.
Unfortunately with Wolves lack of any serious ambitions to strengthen the squad to try and stay in the premiership is there for all to see.
The Wolves faithful deserve better than what is being served up week in week out.

I wish I had those good vibes, Jamie. Apologies to those (e.g. South Bank) to whom I said O’Hara was Hammers bound – obviously I was wrong! He did so well down here at Portsmouth that he has to be a good signing.

Talk about moaning bs!
A couple of months ago all these lot of moaners touting about signing this guy- now we have him there slagging him off.
we could sign ronaldo and messi and theyd still complain.
Good loan deal

why is everyone so upset that we have signed Adam Hammill, Leigh Griffiths, and Jamie O’Hara (loan) these 3 players are very good, and for the money it has cost, they are excellent signings, Griffiths is a real hot prospect, and Hammill is really good cover, for example Hunt will miss Bolton due to injury. why go wasting £millions on players, how much was Jarvis, Kightly, Henry, Guediourra, Ebanks-blake. i bet you people were saying we were lacking ambition when we signed them.

So much crying. We got a quality midfield player for the rest of the season, as well as signing a winger with a lot of potential.
Who cares if we get relegated. Just support the club and stop moaning about each and every aspect. Mick has done more for us than any manager in 20 years, yet people still say sack him.
I’m sure he knows who the real fans are.

Good signing if we now drop henry. He has got to play with milijas……….

Disappointed with our club this window. Great to dee O’hara sign but Mick has been saying all through the window how he wants a centre half yet on snotty news story it says our business is done for this window…
We have needed a CB everyone can see it and although I feel stears and Berra could keep us up we needs more quality in tjat position

We’re having half a crown each way on survival / relegation, aren’t we?

1, Bilbrook.
You and others on here, really havent got a clue what your talking about.
So you would of sooner of signed Vela than O’Hara??
Are you nuts, Vela is a fancy dan, 21 year old Bambi on ice, fairy of a footballer, who is yet to prove himself in the Arsenal reserve team!
When the going gets tough, which its going too, who do you think is going to rise to the challenge more?
Vela, who isnt even used to English football yet, let alone an English relegation fight or….
O’Hara, who won seven player of the year awards and was outstanding for a huge points deducted Portsmouth last season.
O’Hara has the heart, the fight, the quality and the experiance.
Well done Mick and co. an excellent winter swoop for us.
Bring it on!

O’Hara is a great bit of business and I know he was total quality whilst at Pompey. Watching our final away game last season down at Fratton Park – he picked up every single award – so I now how highly rated he is. Lets just hope he does stay fit of course.
As far as the rest of our business goes, it is disappointing and think MM is hoping that with the players coming back from injury e.g. Craddock, our remaining games will produce the rewards as at this time last season. Hmmmm – am not so sure.
3 points at Bolton on Wednesday is an absolute must – just to keep us in the mix with Utd this weekend and Arsenal the week after.
WE ARE WOLVES!!

O’Hara is a great signing, he has experienced a relegation fight with portsmouth so knows what its all about. He is a much better alternative to Henry and i think O’Hara and Milijas could form a great partnership in the middle, giving us a very strong overall midfield with 3 class wingers to choose from.
My only concern is the defence. Stearman is so weak at the back and is costing us matchs, Berra is solid on his day but is struggling without the leadership of Craddock next to him. Even with Craddock back fit, at his age, it will take him ages to get match fit. Mouokolo is another centreback that gets signed, never played, then sold. What a waste! I think we need an experienced centreback in now else were in even bigger trouble!
Oh, and Stearman aiming for England call up!! Thats probably the funniest thing i’ve heard in a long time!

great signing. id take him permanently if possible.
i cant believe all these moaners on here. o’hara is a great player with lots of fight and more importantly, premier league experience. he is exactly the sort of player we need.
we do still need a CB though. i really hope it is not true that our business is done. our defence is clearly not good enough. i would move foley to LB to solve that problem but we really need a quality CB.
i fully expect jody to back in the team against bolton since he didnt play against stoke but i would be so much happier with the squad if we could bring in someone else to sort out the defence. if it can only be done on loan, then send mancienne back to the chelsea treatment table. come on three M’s, get a CB in before 11pm.

2) Dan. Isn’t it Konchelsky that’s gone to Forst on loan? I think Warnock is still available, unless Liverpool take him back.
16) MitchB. Have I missed something….when was Mouyokolo sold ?
It’ll be interstering to see if and where MM starts Jamie O’Hara. On talkSport he was saying he’s been told he’ll have a central midfield attacking role.

I am hating writing this BUT………….. I know Henry is gold and black through and through and I love local lads and supporters in out side, but WW play a particular, predictable, style when Karl is in the side. Playing 4-5-1 with him in the holding role is fine , especially away from home. At home, when we need to take the play more to teams we come up short and I am uncertain about his creativity in a central midfield duo. We looked so short of ideas (and , dare I say it, boring) against Stoke. The big sadness for me is the lack of game time for Jones (for me, our best performing midfielder). Are we sidelining him because he is running down his contract to move in the summer? We need more of a cutting edge. Maybe the excellent O’Hara (good recruit) will answer my worries)Got to get something against NOTLOB. C’mom WOlves!

YES BOYS! Might see abit of Danielle Lloyd ;)

ohara is a very good player, pity about the other ten !sadly we should have invested in defenders and someone who can put some of the numerous opportunities we seem to miss in the first 20 mins of a match, pity someone like robbie keane wasnt available.boring boring negative football aimed only at swelling the managements pockets by just securing survival.i will guarantee we will finish bottom of the league, poor players, absurd team selection, moronic tactics, everyday life at money grabbing molineux.this time next year we will be in the bottom six of the championship will the same old names, henry ,ward, foley, berra etc.wise up everyone

Not enough done to sign a centre half and left back and i feel we will pay the price for this come may, i just cant see us getting out of the relegation zone at all this season. Although i am happy with o hara and hammill signings.
Ebanks dad, i care if we get relegated and i think many others do to, but if we go down of course we will all be there next season, although i think mccarthy should go if we do.

I agree with a number of posts on here about O’Hara playing alongside Millijas – but we all wonder about King Karl our captain. It takes a brave manager to drop the captain, but results don’t lie, we have performed a 100% better with Karl. Maybe, just may be he could fulfil the LB position if he has to be in the team. It can’t be any worse than Ward or Elokobi??
