Wolves on brink of Jamie O’Hara signing
Saturday 29th January 2011, 7:25PM GMT.
Wolves were tonight on the verge of completing their third signing this month with the capture of Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara.
The 24-year-old was at Wolves’ Compton training ground today for talks and a medical and is understood to be joining on loan to follow the permanent captures of Adam Hammill and Leigh Griffiths.
The loan deal is believed to have been made with a view towards a permanent move in the summer.
O’Hara, who is expected to watch tomorrow’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Stoke at Molineux, is the competitive midfielder Wolves have been chasing after missing out on Steve Sidwell to Fulham as fears over the availability of Michael Mancienne grow.
But Wolves maybe haven’t finished their business yet, with possibly another signing to come.
If O’Hara’s signing is confirmed as a loan, that would leave Wolves unable to bring in anyone else on that basis as Mancienne, who has patella tendon problems, is still their player.
A hard-running but skilful box-to-box midfielder, O’Hara was watched along with defender Jonathan Woodgate by Wolves’ European scout Ian ‘Taff’ Evans at Spurs Lodge training ground after recovering from a stress fracture in his back, an injury that has kept him out of action all season.
Although he was part of the team that were relegated at Pompey, O’Hara was a huge success on the south coast, winning eight Player of the Year awards.
Despite being settled in the capital, it is understood Wolves have seen off interest from West Ham for O’Hara’s signature.
O’Hara has made 34 appearances for Spurs and 26 at Pompey, winning Carling Cup and FA Cup runner’s up medals with each respectively.

Fantastic signing, just what we need, in Mick we trust !!
Looks a good signing.
Great news he is a great player to get on loan, if he does well then get him to sign long term.
Great news if successful, he will need time to bed in remember he has come back from a Back Op. But Great signing, now shut up morons Wolves do their business away from the media- refreshing!!
I think Jamie will make a good centre half.
If he signs
Report abuse
please, please pull this one off. would be quality signing.
AT LAST A QUALITY SIGNING.
O’Hara has been on Wolves radar for some time so to actually get him, even if it is only on loan(?) is very good news.
Many commented last season that he would improve the squad, so hopefully he will do just that… and could he become a Wolves player in time?
Hope this is true, last time I commented on a signing Sidwell went to Fulham..But like O’hara..UTW
Report abuse
GREAT SIGNING SHOULD HAVE HAD HIM AT THE START OF THE SEASON, HE COULD MAKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN US STAYING UP AND NPOWERING IT NEXT SEASON….UP THE WOLVES!!!!
Jamie would be a great addition to Wolves and his missus is top draw too!!
this could be a very good for the wolves, lets hope we can pull this one off.
This os great news if it comes off he could make a bog difference to the rest of our season…UTW
Report abuse
If it does go through, should be a good signing for us, bit of class that we need, tbf, still could do with a cb and a lb. But still happy with this (potential) signing. UTW
Report abuse
A terrific player and one sure to please all Wolves fans. Maybe a slight gamble with regard to his fitness, but worth it.
awesome player
Report abuse
Great signing if he will come …. . Just what we need.
Will be very pleased if this happens.
Come on you wolves.
Good signing. Now let’s get a CB & a LB in…

key words being “on the brink”

Hope I haven’t jinxed anything….
Great news!! At last a recognised quality player. Fantastic signing!! Come On You Wolves.
Oh please please please please let this be true!! This guy is quality!! Please don’t let this be another Steve Sidwell and go n sign for hammers at last minute!!
Love da Wolves!!
Get in if it’s true!
He’s class.
At last someone who will help in our relegation battle.
It doesn’t solve the left-back nightmare though. We are leaking goals down that side, and something HAS to be done if we are to survive.
Wish the E&S had kept this to themselves, he’ll be a Fulham player by Monday!!!
Hope it goes through, good engine on him and he is hungry to show he can play in the Prem, will be pleased to get him!!
this player is sik.
always wanted him. forget sidwell now. this guy has a magic left foot at times!!
cor wait to see him in a wolves shirt and playing.
up the wolves and survive the premier league here we cum!!!!!!!!!!
Good signing…
Bit peeved that the albion signed Vela though…
Report abuse
A good signing if we get him, but please, please, please get us a decent centre half to replace Berra.
quality signing mick thank you :) now i praise you for this signing now this is ambition now just get a good defender in and were ready to go
Report abuse
anytime over woodgate, thank you
Report abuse
Could be a great addition for us, but arguably central midfield is a position we seem well stocked in, especially left footers.
Seems pointless giving a loan spot to Mancienne when doubts grow if he will even play again this season.
I’m disappointed we didn’t get Woodgate – a big IF but IF he had come and stayed fit we would have had an international class centre half on our hands. Another case of a player not wanting to leave the bright lights of London though I think. I wonder if Sol Campbell is worth a go on loan, or Boyota from Man City? (provided Mancienne goes to free up a loan spot)
An opportunity tomorrow to rekindle the Craddock-Berra-Hahnemann axis that did so well last season. If Mick goes with that and we keep a clean sheet, I’d go with them at Bolton on Wednesday. Hennessey and Stearman haven’t done a great deal wrong, but experience is what we need from here on in.
Looks like a good signing, glad we haven’t got Woodgate. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a few more goals!
at last a decent signing with experience and a lad with good skills and better than we have already, especially Henry(the most boring player in PL)
IF THE WOLVES ARE SERIES ABOUT STAYING UP THAN WHY ARE BUYING CROCKS (WOODGATE)
GET KEANE!!!!
Could be just what we need in the middle of the park. He did a great job at Pompey so let’s hope he does the trick for us.
I would still like to see a good defender in, if possible, before Monday night and then we should have enough to stay up this season.
UTW
Report abuse
Yes yes yes a player worthy of the old gold and black strip, only issue is he a little rusty and will need 10 games to get up to speed like stephen”aka kickass”hunt, wud have loved it to be on a permanent deal, u t w goe on 3 m’s make us believe
Report abuse
Get him in…
Report abuse
Now you´re talking! As long as this guy doesn´t warm the bench and Milijas puts on a shirt at the same time as he does AND they step out together then we have a chance. It don´t make MM a great manager, it just means at last he´s seen the light.
I hope this transfer goes through. Have always rated him and wanted us to sign him last summer. Would ge ever get picked infront of backpass henry though….
Hope to god this is not another wind up or another Steve Sidwell situation….. FGS what happened to the “behind closed door deals” or the “deal is not done until it’s done”. Mind you if he has been spotted at Compton by the so called “press” it’s hard to deny. JUST TAKE HIS MOBILE PHONE OFF HIM UNTIL HE IS OUR LOAN PLAYER. BTW good luck with this signing Mick – it just could make our survival happen. Who will make way for him, certainly not Henry!!
great news to get a player like him to come here!!!!! Wolves are staying up!!!!!!!!!
would be a wicked signing, if fit he’s just what we need, but where’s the left back and centre back? they are needed much more urgently as without stopping the goals against we cannot win games because our defence has more holes in it than an old tramps vest. as they have shown all season they simply aren’t up to the task having only kept 2 clean sheets
Report abuse
That is nice to hear. i am over the moon about jamie coming to the wolves great signing. and try and get robbie to come with him…..
after the woodgate, sidwell sagas, maybe the news of O’hara on the brink of signing is premature.
ES ran a similar article last year about Ohara and it didnt happen.
speculation is fine, but why not publish if/when the deal is done
Report abuse
sign him up, can wait if he joins
Report abuse
Good signing, much needed
Report abuse
I hope we get this one. Great signing. Jog on woodgate and sidwell.
this will please a few on here that have been calling for O Hara since way back lol
come on me beauties!!!
Be interesting to see if Woodgate will follow suit now????
That’s all we need, another midfielder/winger. D e f e n c e!
Good News I just hope that he gets a chance to play based on merit and abillity (too many headless chickens already that like running but lack abillity!)
Defence still needs a left back and a decent centre half
Before anyone starts bleating on about moaning etc We have blatently needed better defenders since we were promoted!
We hope for far better
Up the Wolves!
That’s more like it just the tonic! Now come on me babies give it them stokies.
A Decent Signing, as long as he’s in to replace Karl Henry and NOT Milijas.
Also, I think some urgency in making these signings woulodnt have gone a miss. Birmingham have made us look complete idiots, that same as they did last year.
When we are on the brink of relegation I can understand people keeping their heads, but a bit of urgency wouldn’t go a miss.
Anyway, what are the odds on O’hara playing alongside the hapless Henry then eh?
This is great news if he is fit he will be a great attacking addition to the
Midfield.all of the players we have bought in look very mobile and proven goal-scorers,some great business done in this window
Report abuse
Great signing, if we get him. Think we missed out on Curtis Davies, he could have been a decent player for us. Still think there’ll be one more surprise – a LB hopefully!
Jamie o’hara going to be good signing and hope there more loan signing to follow. Come on u wolves!!! Lets beat stoke today in cup!!
Good news, better if we could sign him for keeps though,if he plays well and makes a full recovery from injury his value will only increase!may be we will have an option to buy for a fixed fee if we stay up?.UTW.
A long, long chase for this man. If he comes back to full fitness, he is the man to balance our midfield. Great piece of work by MM getting him in. Fingers crossed!
Who might the other signing be I wonder, Might it be a left back or centre half?
Two nil to us this afternoon I think.
Up The Wolves
Report abuse
THIS WOULD BE A FANTASTIC SIGNING,ALL WE NEED IS A CENTRE BACK & LEFT BACK….AND TO DROP HENRY FOR O’HARA AND WE MAY EVEN WIN A GAME
Report abuse
yeah wolves saw off west ham as they could only make 1 more loan signing and they have signed keane on loan (oh yeah wasn’t that our target) cant really say anything about o’hara as he hasn’t played for a year but iam sure he will give his all, what we really needed was a defender though!
I bit of a gamble due to injury problems that he has faced this season BUT showed his quality on loan at Portsmouth last season. Exactly type the of midfielder that we needed to sign.
Here is another idea, if we can depending on the terms of the loan lets send Mancienne back to Chelsea as we don’t know when he will be fit this season and use this loan space to bring in another player.
Assume that the other player that we are trying to bring in is either Faye at Stoke or Moshni at Southend Utd.
Anybody else think that Kevin Philips as a back up striker would be good idea.
about time the muppet signed someone with a bit of class but doubt whether he will be the difference between staying up or relegation the muppet and his clown have done too much damage with too many naff signings apart from jelle vandame who was a class act and we all know where he ended up on subs bench and eventually transfered
Report abuse
Good signing if we get him. Just the type of midfielder we need.
Maybe there is hope of us staying up
other realistic targets
boughera – rangers solid
fox – burnley better than what weve got
keane – spurs proven prem goal scorer
Report abuse
Let’s hope his mobile’s out of range whilst he’s having his medical.
Mick, have another word with ‘Arry, tell him Jonathon Woodgate needs to spend the next few months at Molineux.
Great signing he will play well along side berra me thinks!!!
Well I am hoping to be sat next to Danielle Lloyd at Bolton!
Great signing if it happens and O’Hara, Henry and Milijas in a midfield three with Hammill on the right and Jarvo back where he belongs on the left.
Team V Bolton:
Hahnemann
Zubar
Craddock
Stearman
Hunt
Hammill
O’Hara
Henry
Milijas
Jarvis
Doyle

Good player to bring in.
It’s a tragedy that we couldn’t (presumably) commit enough money to get Robbie Keane.
As we haven’t brought established quality players in for the relegation fight our only hope is the group we have improve quickly. We appear to have a good team spirit but are often deficient in quality.
So, we need creativity and goals from Doyle, Fletcher and SEB; more consistency from Jarvis; more drive from Henry and more solid defending – to mention the obvious.
It will come down to the big games and opportunities though: Albion (x2), Blackpool, Birmingham, Stoke, Everton, Fulham and Blackburn.
Well done, 3M’s! Real hope for survival. Far better choice in almost all skill catgories, including desire, unlike want-away David Jones, as he is not in the mix anymore. Let’s cross our fingers this signing is one to change our fortunes! UTW!
at last ! a quality signing all we need now is a decent CH or LB . jamie is a fantastic player ive seen him a few times and he will make that midfield a lot stronger . i said last season we needed a player like him forget sidwell ( overated and overpaid ). jamie o hara is perfect for wolves a QUALITY signing. hope we can get him on a permanent basis . class player.
center half and left back a must!elokobi and ward poor choices at left back!!!
O’hara played l back for England U’21′s.great player to have on board!!UTW!!
Well,
Says it all when there is just as much interest in his mrs as him (o hara) doe’s not look good. I think MM dropped a clanger.

ZAK always someone who makes a negative out of a positive!!
