Stearman and Henry sign new deals

Wolves today announced captain Karl Henry and defender Richard Stearman have signed new contracts that will keep them at Molineux until 2014.

Midfielder Henry, who still has two and a half years to run on his deal, has signed a new three-and-a-half year deal with an option for another 12 months.

Fellow Wulfrunian Stearman has signed a two-and-a-half year extension to his current deal.

The pair follow goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, Matt Jarvis, George Elokobi and David Edwards in pledging their futures to Wolves since the end of last season.

Henry’s representative Eric Walters has been in talks with the club for some months about extending his deal, while the player insisted he would be happy to spend the rest of his career at Molineux.

The 28-year-old saw Steve Sidwell offered £40,000-a-week recently, which would have made him Wolves’ top earner.

Henry has been one of manager Mick McCarthy’s best value signings after being snapped up from Stoke four-and-a-half years ago for £100,000, making 182 appearances.

Stearman is also heading into a bigger pay league, after signing for four years when he arrived from Leicester in June 2008 for around £1.6million.

Talks between his agent Tamas Byrne, who was at Compton yesterday, and the club have been swifter.

Stearman, who has played 80 games for Wolves, has shown his best form in his current run of missing one of the last 16 matches deputising for Jody Craddock.

McCarthy said: “Karl’s always played a key role for us. His leadership qualities on and off the pitch have seen him become club captain and he has adapted really well to playing in the Premier League.

“Like Karl, Stearman will continue to develop and, having fought his way into the team this season, has maintained a good level of performance.”

Chief executive Jez Moxey added: “We’re constantly keeping an eye on contract situations, and the players know if they perform, they’ll be rewarded.

“Karl and Richard perfectly fit the club ethos in terms of coming to Wolves at a young age but with potential to improve.

“Their work with the manager and coaching staff has seen them make that improvement.”

Just when you think things cant get any worse you read about new contracts for Karl Henry and Stearman, the reason is they will sign for cheap wages because nobody else wants these Championship quality players,we are now sadly doomed stuck with players we cant get rid of and the Premierships worst ever Manager who thinks hes bulletproof no matter what the results. We have well and truly been stiched up by Morgan and Moxey.

Let’s leave the contracts, then you can all have a good moan when they walk from the club for nothing.

And will people stop bleating about centre halfs, Rio Ferdinand and John Terry would make mistakes playing behind our central midfielders. Mick needs a quality central ball winning midfielder to stop the constant pressure on the back four, oh wait he’s been trying to sinb one hasn’t he? Don’t let that stop the moaning tho..

I feel a rant coming on! What is the point in building a new ground when we are not prepared to build a team which is equipped to stay in the premier league. Is this just a building project for Morgan or what? I thought we were a football club where what matters takes place on the pitch.
Someone tell the players to put a sock in it. Every week it’s “we are good enough to stop up” well how is that? We are bumbling along at the bottom with the occasional flash of hope mixed with the dire, and heroic failure.

Complacent bombproof Mick, how can we not need something extra in the team. We are not good enough, end of. You won’t need a new stadium when we are pulling in 15000 in the championship. I really don’t know what’s going on as it doesn’t make any sense.

We have only spent £30million as no one at the club gets paid wages and the new stadium is free. I think the 3 M’s have split it and they have also bought Stephen Ward and all of Mad Micks love children new houses/cars/boats! Well i for one am happy ‘IMO’ i think both players deserve new contracts, all supporters have players they either ‘like or dislike’ no matter how they perform they are cheered or slagged off? I think Karl was a bargain at £100,000 he’s an excellent player he breakes up the play and works his socks off every match some fans dont see what he does in matches because they dont want to see. Yes he was poor v liverpool as was the rest of the team, but remember he’s been out injured for a number of weeks and needs match practice to regain his sharpness. As for Richard Stearman they lad is only young and yes he’s made some howlers, but he’s also made some great tackles and covered other defenders mistakes. We must give him time to mature as a CH. With Wolves ethos of ‘buying young and hungry’ why oh why did we sell Mark Davies? the lad came on last night for Bolton and was total class, if it was as people say he and MM had words, then im afraid Mick dropped an almighty clanger as the lad should have been given a fair go at Wolves, which we all know never happened. He was a ‘GEM’ which we let go because of MM ego? Yes he had a few injury problems but he seems well over them now,he looked very sharp last night, just the type of player that fits the Wolves ‘YOUNG and HUNGRY’ ethos???? UTW:

Let’s imagine Wolves had signed John Terry and Rio Ferdinand. On Saturday McCarthy would have left them on the bench for 88 minutes then brought them on in place of Doyle and Fletcher.

We were losing and McCarthy only made 1 substitution. We had Pinocchio(Dave Jones)and Vokes on the bench, why not try and change things because the eleven out there weren’t achieving anything. And what happened to Mujangi Bia, was his crime daring to shoot from outside the box?

Everything that comes out of Molineux seems to imply they have settled for Championship football next season.

I’ve not got a problem with these two being offerd longer deals, especially as stearman is still young and we don’t want to lose players on free. However, I am really hoping that they have a relegation clause in there contracts to say they take a wage cut if we go down!!
Might make them hungrier to stay up plus we can’t have aload of higher earns that no one else will buy if we do go down to the championship!
I’v got to be honest, I have always been a McCarthy fan and he has succeded at wolves where many other managers have failed, he got us into the premiership and kept us there. However, his sheer pigheadness when it comes to transfers is really starting to annoy me. I am a fan of Adam Hammill, but when our best players this season have been our wingers, I don’t see how this transfer is going to help keep us up. It’s plain to see that the areas we’re struggling with are CB and more importantly LB seeing as we’ve just sold one. As far as left backs go stephen ward is terrible!! And yet I haven’t really seen us make any effort to go for any defenders. If the left back position was identified as a problem in the summer which is why we bought Van Damm, then why is not a problem now that we’ve sold him. Shocking!!

Truth, The truth on the Sky money v spending will come out soon when the financial results for our first season is announced. There is nothing wrong with making a profit ,but we will never establish ourselves as a Premier team if we don’t compete on player’s wages. They are overpaid we all know that, but if you don’t pay the going rate you don’t get the quality players.Stoke seem to have got the message, and one assumes their management team think they know how to run a football club as well.It is ok talking about being a yo yo club, but that is based on one big premise:that you can get promotion out of the Championship quickly. As we should all know, that is easier said than done.

This is smart business for me.

Stearman is a 23 year old centre-half who granted needs to add consistency to his game but has been fantastic during certain games this season (recently Chelsea at home, Liverpool away). Remember all the mistakes Ferdinand made as a youngster? He is learning in the harshest environment there is, but the improvement is there for all to see.

And what short memories some people have – last season Karl Henry was being talked about as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premiership and even being sounded out for England. He didn’t have the best game on Saturday (along with Hunt, Jarvis, Doyle, Fletcher and Zubar), but let’s remember he’s been out injured for 2 months and this was his first PL game back. Yes he passes the ball sideways, but have a watch of the likes of Carrick, Mikel, De Jong etc and you’ll find the majority of their passes go backwards or sideways. Keeping possession is vital at this level.

The club has a ‘young and hungry’ ethos which everyone should be aware of now. 2 young lads playing for their home-town club, I think that is great to see.

Would you rather we didn’t extend their contracts and let them walk for free?

There is little a club can do, in these days of meaningless contracts and Bosmans, if a player is determined to leave. Darren Bent is the latest example.

Well done Wolves for extending these contacts. For the ‘we-want-it-and-we-want-it-NOW’ brigade, we also have to look after the future. As someone else has pointed out, can you imagine the uproar if these players were allowed to leave for free futher down the line. It’s called investment.

At times there have been some of the best passing and attacking periods of play that I’ve seen from Wolves in a long time. But not once have I seen a decent defensive performance for one whole game. Another thing is the amount of times the 2 centre backs kept heading the ball forward when it came to them, when most of the time they had more than enough time to bring it down and pass the ball to a wolves player instead of heading it straight back to one of their players.

    Dear Idiots,

At the end of each season, the final standings loosely match the average attendance/capacity of each team.

For example, Man united win the league most of the time and they have the largest capacity. The teams that go down ‘generally’ have the smallest capacities.

So…… the higher the capacity, the higher the revenue, the higher the league position. Granted it is not as plain and simple as that case by case (newcastle went down, leeds went down etc etc) but ‘on the whole, this is the formula to success.

Maybe some wolves fans need to except that for the time being The Henrys and stearmans of the world are the kind of players that we need to BACK so they can TAKE US TO THE NEXT LEVEL so that we can attract overpaid donkeys like sidwell?

The players are only fair Premiership players (forget the histercal rants from fools) but very good Championship players, just what will be needed next season. And who knows, we could just fluke it…

50 TomWolf – a lot of sense in what you say. Mick is a “yes” man – we’ve seen many players pass through Molineux during his tenure, Van Damme being the latest and Dave Jones next. They’re players with opinions which don’t fit with MM. Karl Henry is a yes man and despite his hard work, he is a very average midfielder. The biggest problem we had on Saturday was his negative sideways or back passes and continual calling for the ball when he was actually not in a good position – yes, he probably wasn’t match fit, so then why play him?? I lost all faith in him when he was asked by the football club my seven year old nephew attends to present the end of year trophies and replied “How much are you going to pay me??”. I obviously want us to survive for a third season in the Prem, but I am losing faith. We got well and truly turned over against Liverpool who had obviously done their homework. We are a one-dimensional team under MM and TC and I’m afraid that players like KH fit snuggly into that regime.

59 Liverpool Wolves,No one expects us to compete with the Liverpool’s of this world just yet. However as we are the 11th best supported team in the premiership, are debt free, have money in the bank,How come we cant even compete with the Blackpool’s Bolton’s Stoke’s etc of this world.
Hark the answer i will hear is Fulham,Bolton,Wigan, Stoke etc are established Premiership sides,Yes but how did they become established, because they spent on QUALITY not Championship players.
As i pointed out yesterday the team finishing bottom will receive £50Million therefore finishing 17th would give us more than that plus a guarenteed £50 Million next season.
Does it not make sense therefore to bring in some quality defenders before next Monday’s deadline to at least give us a fighting chance of survival.
MM’S insistence that we do not need any new signings is hardly bore out by our record over the last 23 games is it,3 Clean sheets,Conceded 2 or more 15 times,Most losses.32 or is it 33 defeats in 61 matches as Wolves manager hardly inspires confidence in the Management’s ability to secure a third succesive premiership campaign does it?
Finally to all of the punters suggesting that we would make an immediate return if Relegated Thats probably what the fans of Burnley,Hull and Pompey were thinking,Not that easy is it.

    Fulham – Sugar Daddy
Bolton – Sugar Daddy (and £93mill in debt). he either takes a massive hit or the house falls down
Wigan – Sugar Daddy (and not exactly stealing a march on us are they? 1 pt)
Stoke – Premiership quality? theyre just a bunch of big boys roared on by their home support. Which we should try a bit more of. But after 2 years in the prem they are starting to spend. But I’ve already mentioned The New H (YAY!) once, and to be honest, the lack of ambition and ready preparation of the relegation safety net that the club is undergoing is starting to get a bit wearing.

That said, West Ham are so obviously going to finish bottom that it’s just not true. They seem to be willing to gamble on any old out-of-form loanee and fitness-test-failing Euro-dropout at the moment. Still, at least if THEY go down, Ms Brady can devote more time to her always-fascinating column.

If we had someone in charge who is better tactfully, better man management skilled and does not favour over rated players then i truly believe we could become an established club in the prem.

the fact is that this club is being run 100% on a business level which unfortunately comes purely down to money.

there is obviously an underlying reason why Mick is still here but i think we will never know the truth.

As an example Jolean Lescott on Loan Wages £70k per week.Roughly 20 weeks of the season left =£1.4 million. Not bank breaking but may be worth £50 million. It’s only my opinion but one that a lot seem to agree with, this defence is not good enough to keep us up.My goal/dream is sustained premiership football however if you are happy to become a yo yo club then so be it.

Maltawolves – we are debt free, we’re debt free because of the way the club is run & long may that continue.

There are 2 problems with your Lescott example. Firstly, it papers over a crack. Come the summer, having paid out £1.4 million, plus extras to solve out left back problem, Lescott would go back to City & leave us having to spend more money trying to plug the gap again. The second problem is, there is no way, unless they buy again this winter, City will let him go. He’s an important part of their 1st team squad as cover for left back & centre back.

I’m not being critical of you directly, but it’s very easy to say we need a left back, it’s much harder to go & find one that is in budget, available, good enough, right mentality & wants to move to us.

89 – I fear you’ll receive a backlash from the ‘perfect’ fans on here who think anyone expressing a contrary opinion to theirs is tantamount to treason. You’ll probably be told: “Good riddance”, mate, or something similar. It won’t occur to them that being a TRUE fan sometimes involves criticising the very club you love, painful as it is. No, in their eyes, being a ‘Yes Man’ and accepting any old dross (and at a high cost to the wallet!) is somehow acceptable because they’re ‘Uber Fans’ who have nothing to complain about. Ever. Never.

Well, reading a post like yours says plenty about the pain and disechantment you feel. That’s genuinely sad and reflects, in all probability, the feelings of many of us. I don’t think anyone of sane mind expected Wolves to tear-up trees this season, but we did (quite rightly) expect a better fist of things. To say we’ve been lead up the garden path with big, bold talk from the Molineux bigwigs is no understatement. If anyone is happy with our (almost inevitable) limp-wristed relegation, then fine, feel content. However, there’s a difference between sound, progressive management and crazy, inept meddling that defies belief. I think we’ve witnessed the latter.

What a pity when a fan of 57 years’ loyal support feels so distanced from the club he loves. Just a shame that nobody at The Golden Palace will be listening. Mind you, what’s new? You have my sympathies, pal…I’m only a newbie of 40 years support.

Ok, lets sift through some of the utter tripe written on thsi thread:

2 – Numptie no 26571: “says it all a clueless Manager and clueless players who will take us nowhere”

Where were we when McCarthy arrived and where are we now ?

4, Wolfhound: “we have recieved over £100million in Sky alone”

Where are you pulling this £100million figure from ? I’m thinking of somewhere dark and smelly. Please tell me how you ‘calculated’ this figure ?

56, Who are WBA anyway: “Mr McCarthy I have a question for you. IF the players you have, are, in your considered opinion as good as the players other teams have got, why are the Wolves wallowing again in the relegation area, exactly as they did for most of last season?”

We may have wallowed last season, but we didn’t go down did we. Idiot. Welcome to trying to build a sustainable club. You want instant success – May be Man City would suit you better, Sir ? They’re about to be either
nailed by FIFA for spending outside of their means (and potentially banned from the ‘Champions’ League) or will have to pull the reigns in very quickly to justify spending within the turnover restrictions being implemented by FIFA. Its January, the season isn’t over until May, we’re in the middle of a run compromising of Man City, Chelsea, an improving Liverpool, Bolton and Arsenal. the top six in effect. We are 2 points from saftety, and have beaten three of those top six teams already this season. Wake Up pal.

33 – Robert Perry: Quote ”Wolves dithering over a move have seen them lose out……….”. says it all really. How anyone can come on here and defend the people running this club beats me.An increasingly disappointed season ticket holder.

So this is fact is it ? You are taking internet rumour as fact, and having a pop at the club. Arguments based on internet rumours, and not facts ? Is that what you are doing ? Please, somebody help me !! Hows about I defend the club based on some facts ? promoted to Prem under 3m’s and kept their by three m’s. Fact! Still there with a third of a season to go – Fact !

34 Spanish Ray: “This club is showing no ambition whatsoever, give us a good team and the new stand will be paid for without fail”

Really ? Give us a new team ? Where are you going to get it from ? How much are you going to spend on it ? How long will it take for your drastic measures to put us right back in the position that McCarthy – whether you like it or not – has taken us from ? And, how are plans for a new stadium ‘unambitious’ ? Truly unbelievable comment.

I too understand you were in your day a centre half! However, i do not understand that you watch your daily training sessions, matchday games and think whilst drinking a glass of vino at the evenings, Christophe and Richard are the best two centre half’s we have and i believe they will do a grand job and keep our defence tight to stay in the Premier League!
Get real, we need a new pairing at the back, drop your son in law for George or replace them both two!
At worst, play Zubar and George centre half! Give us half a chance,
If Curtis Davies can go to Leicester? Why not us? 6 days to go until the window closes, get a grip and sort out the defence!!!
    Regards
    Mr Well Peeeed Off!!!

Ive had a season ticket since 1987 but this is the 1st time im seriously considering not renewing.

Spot on! Wolves are owned by Bridgemere Group.
They have no interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.
Meaning yes, they will develope the Mol at no expense to themselves but at the expense of the club and their supporters as a whole.
Their interest lies in Wolverhampton and the future development of the city, boasting how they redeveloped Molineux as a showpiece for gaining an unfair advantage on contracts for further developments.
The money is staying in the bank to further Mr. Morgan’s portfolio and for him and his companies to benefit.

We don’t even have the ambition to stay in the division – let alone bring in quality players. I listened to Jez on radio before the Liverpool game and thought we was arrogant, complacent and lacked ambition for the club, team or fans ’..we are united..’ ‘..we are a team..’ ‘..we are in it together, no matter what..’ ‘..no matter what division…’
Then I saw the game – we lacking passion (which you cant often say about MM teams), there was no plan – which is often true of MM teams, and we played negative, hit and hope football. MM raves about Jarvis – teams let him go wide because his crosses are aimless. Henry can only go side and back – leaving the backs or keeper to hoof it. The forwards get no quality service – only balls lofted into a packed area. The opposition however ran with the ball (yes Mick – it is allowed) passed crisp balls into the slots for forwards to run onto – its easy really. We took a demoralized poor Liverpool side and gave them fresh hope. We started with our fans cheering and ended with half empty stands and the opposition celebrating in the Steve Bull – again.
Then I heard MM on radio & TV, bemoaning the lack of killer instinct and mistakes that cost us. You pick them Mick – you coach them and you choose the tactics. We just pay……
Lets get some passion and ambition back – starting at the top. These are the same players who beet ManC, Chelsea and Liverpool. Lets get some quick ‘quality service to the forwards and stop booting 60 yd balls up the pitch – its Championship football

I`m not a fan of McCarthy but he is expected to keep a team of championship grafters in the best league in the world with a wage budget that is one of the 3 lowest in the prem and feel slightly sorry for him.
Its a pity that our ticket prices arent the 3rd lowest to match our rubbish wages and the “young and hungry” policy is just an excuse for cheap and cheerful lower league rubbish to be drafted in.
Hammil may or may not be a decent signing but if thats the limit of our ambition we deserve to be relegated.
Brum bring in the likes of Bentley and we are salivating over scottish lower league forwards like Griffiths to keep us up.
Its pathetic stuff and I`ve got better things to spend my money on and wont be renewing my season ticket either.McCarthy doesnt deserve as much flack as Moxey and the lpool fanatic Morgan who have no intention of doing what is required to give us a realistic chance of staying in the prem.
The fact a championship clogger like Henry and Stearman (calamity collins mark 2) have been given long contracts like elokobi etc just screams mediocrity.I dont blame these players as they work their backsides off every game with 100 % commitment but Morgan/Moxey are expecting that to be sufficient to keep us up are they? …mugs

as for stearman i know he is young but at the moment he is just making too many mistakes and we need a more experienced proven top level defender and a left back or we will go down because at the moment we need to score 3 to get a point but it looks like mm has convinced sm &jm that what we have is good enogh well it simply isn’t

Alex just like to respond to your comments,Ok, lets sift through some of the utter tripe written on thsi thread:

2 – Numptie no 26571: “says it all a clueless Manager and clueless players who will take us nowhere”

Where were we when McCarthy arrived and where are we now ?

We were a championship side currently = bottom of the prem with every chance of returning to the championship. 4, Wolfhound: “we have recieved over £100million in Sky alone”

Where are you pulling this £100million figure from ? I’m thinking of somewhere dark and smelly. Please tell me how you ‘calculated’ this.

According to sky sports when debating Villa’s reasons for spending £24 million on Bent the bottom club receives £50 million therefore we received more than this for last season and will receive a minimum £50 million this year.

No Alex we did not go down thank god but this season is a realistic possibility because of the lack of investment in genuine premiership quality.

Although we dot need a new team we do need quality defenders as a matter of urgency,2 or more goals conceded in 15 of the last 19 prem games FACT.
32 or is it 33 defeats in 61 wolves prem games FACT.
Regarding the new stadium DO WE REALLY NEED ONE? Was not the last development designed for the BQ,SC,&JH stands to be cantilevered to increase capacity.

Maltawolves 96 – Morgan has profited very little, if at all, so far from the club. He sunk £30 million of his own cash into the club. That money will either be spent by the club, or stay in the club’s account, he can not take it back. The club has generated money from being in the Prem but it will be spending a huge proportion of that money already & I hope some money is being put aside as a contingency in case the worse happens. That’s not me being defeatist of accepting relegation, that’s me just being realistic and sensible about our situation. The board have to look beyond the next 6 months…… and I’m saying that with the 80s very much in mind.

I take your point on Lescott, but you missed the more important of my 2 points about him, that being that he’s not available, regardless of how much we’d be prepared to pay him, he isn’t available. Like I say, it’s very easy to pick a position, pick a player & say let’s get him. It’s very difficult to actually identify a weakness, then find a player who is available……. actually, I can’t be bothered to repeat myself, you know what I mean.

The club has shown in offering Sidwell £40k a week and in the offer put to Keane last season, that they are prepared to push the boat a little further for the right player.

Also, again, this is directed not specifically at you but in general to fans who say we don’t need the new stadium, I really hope Morgan & Moxey have got their sums right and we can afford it, judging by the time they’re taking to make the decision, it’s clearly not something being rushed which again, is a good thing. The new stadium will generate more income for the club, not just match day, but the corporate side as well. It also brings the fans closer the pitch. These are 2 good things for Wolves as a business & the fans as spectators. If the stadium generates more income, the club will be richer, allowing the club to afford bigger wages, to attract better players, to play better football & get better results so that the fans in their better stadium with a better position to the pitch have a better match day experience and enjoy a better, stronger club. & we could achieve all this with getting £100 million + in debt like some other clubs……… is that not a good thing ?!

Lescott is just an example of a way forward other players may be available whom we could realistically afford,Warnock,Konchesky etc.
Regarding the new ground as i posted earlier do we really need to completely demolish and rebuild or could we not cantilever cheaper option.
Finally as regard the £40k a week to Sidwell Moxey is great at giving out this information when we fail to sign players, but it is always undisclosed fee when we do.

Malta – firstly we are not bottom, and as mentioned we are only two points from safety with a good run in. Were you not on here this time last season, making incorrect predicitons ? Same old story with you every year. May be it will happen this year, and then you’ll be happy wont you ?

Its our second season up – many ‘new premiership teams’ dont last one! Please also refer to the billions of posts I’ve made regarding the first few seasons of the prem being relegation battles. Any team that has bucked that trend (Ipswich for example) has been relegated the season after. The Bolton’s of this world were fighting relegation for years before they pushed on.

Please quantify your £50 million prize amount. Last year, Wolves received £4.8 million for finishing 15th, plus the rumoured £30 million from TV appearances. I dont think it was anywhere near £50 million, and we are yet to receive any ‘prize money’ this year as the season isn’t over.

Thanks for the facts as well. Did you like my facts about beating Chelsea, Liveprool, Manchester City this season ? Some of these teams we haven’t beaten for over 20 years, yet we have under the man you hate so much. It doesn’t matter if we’ve lost 32 in 61 games now, the stat that will matter is at the end of the season.

Henry’s performance on Saturday was just as bad as his performances before he got injured, so to say it’s a lack of match fitness is naive.
We do need new stands to be built. The club need to press on and improving the stadium will increase commercial revenue on matchdays and every day usage. Maltawolves – I’d agree, I think everybody on this page (apart from the Baggies !) want us to stay up, and everybody in entitled to their opinion. The problem is we as fans, know only a tiny fraction of the details that Morgan, Moxey & McCarthy are dealing with every day. I just can’t buy into the idea that if a player like Warnock, for example, was available, fit, in budget and wanted to move to us, McCarthy wouldn’t do the deal just so he can play Ward ! McCarthy has many faults, but he’s not an idiot !

Our discussion about the stadium plans just proves that point really, I have absolutely no idea if we can save money expanding as you suggest. None of us are privy to all the discussions & planning meetings about the best way to move forward on this project. Again, I just can’t buy into the idea that this project is just some vanity project for Steve Morgan or a way of passing business to his company or whatever else he has been accused of (not by you by the way !). The only thing I would say, is Morgan has said before this project isn’t just about the extra seats, it’s about boosting the stadiums ability to make money from the corporate side as well & moving the fans closer to the pitch.

I think it’s just good practice on Moxey’s part regarding the wages. Would it not bother you if you boss was making your salary known to anybody & everybody who wanted to have a look ?! I don’t think he should be discussing how much the likes of Fletcher, Doyle or Henry earn in public. But given the allegations constantly thrown at the board of not being willing to pay Prem wages, I think it’s fair game that Moxey can answer some of those by revealing we didn’t lose out on someone like Sidwell due to wages.

Chris Hoggard – to be honest Ive kind of lost patience with some of the terrible arguments put up on this site. I really dont feel out of line calling someone an idiot for comparing last seasons relegation flirt to this one as though it proves the clubs strategy wrong – there’s still a third of a season to go !

Fulham: They’ve been spending big big money for years, and (one season apart) have never really pushed on over a period of time. How is this a model for Wolves? In terms of league position, we aren’t far behind them, and they’ve had longer and more money to throw at it ?

Wigan: Worse than Fulham. How can Wigan be used as an argument to justify Wolves spending Big ? Wigan spent £6million on an untried Argentinian forward that has now gone out on loan, half way through his first season. They are in just as much trouble as us, and their financial base is nowhere near as strong.

Stoke: the only real comparison that might make sense. Yes, they’ve spent money on Tuncay and Jones, but they’ve also had one season longer than us in the prem.

137 alex Rae Butler- just to add to the points you raise.
Fulham were runaway championship winners playing premiership football under tigana in 2001.with the likes of really quality players like finnan, coleman, clark, collins and saha. They then added further quality to these players with the likes of Van de Saar, boa morte when promoted. They also were shrewd and tapped into the USA market signing some very good players for not much money especially when managed by chris coleman..

There is a lot we can learn from a club with a small capacity thats was out of the top flight for 40 years and have now stayed in it for 10 seasons.

As for stoke they used a mixture of experienced ex prem players and youth to get promotion and after surviving the first season they have steadily invested in quality like everington, tuncay, pennant, kenwyn jones.

This is where as a club we are going wrong,If our strategy is to stay up we must learn from these clubs and not from WBA, and add further quality to our competitive but limited squad. You will not survive in this league for several seasons without real investment. This doesnt mean spending money you dont have .
We look to be basing our survival on hope rather than anything else.
