Season’s hope for Michael Mancienne
Tuesday 25th January 2011, 2:59PM GMT.
Wolves still have no idea when loan man Michael Mancienne will be fit – but manager Mick McCarthy hasn’t given up on him playing some part this season.
The 22-year-old utility man hasn’t played since the 3-0 defeat at Blackburn on December 4 because of discomfort in his patella tendons.
Mancienne is currently resting and receiving treatment at parent club Chelsea.
And McCarthy admitted the England under-21 international is no nearer returning to action.
The manager said: “He’s not training or doing any running, so he’s going to be a while yet. We’re hoping he will be alright but we don’t know when he’ll be able to train again.
“The longer you’re out, the longer the rehab will be. He’s just got to rest and have whatever treatment they want him to have at Chelsea.
“It’s a difficult one – the patella tendon gets thicker and it takes time to get it back to its proper size. I’m not ruling him out for the season though.
“But I’d have to get a medical opinion on whether it’s the same problem as Michael Kightly had.”
