Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has revealed his anger over the failed Steve Sidwell deal - and revealed Fulham's call came during the player's medical at Compton.

The 28-year-old Villa midfielder has signed for Fulham after twice agreeing to join Wolves in between a stalled move to West Ham.

"He was in here having his medical on Thursday until about 6pm," said McCarthy.

"Mobile phones? We should cover this place in lead or something and then they wouldn't work!

"He conducted himself perfectly. He's a smashing fellow and I wished I could have signed him"

McCarthy admitted he was angry at the turn of events — but at Fulham, not Sidwell.

"I'm annoyed because I don't like losing out on someone," he added.

"I was angry, annoyed, miffed and upset and I told him and his agent.

"But I wasn't angry at them; he only made the same decision I'd have made. He lives in London and a London club came in and he got a long-term contract, so it's a no-brainer.

"Good luck to him. I can't say I wish Fulham the same."
