Jody Craddock close to Wolves comeback

Jody Craddock today delivered a positive new year’s message for Wolves after declaring he could be less than two weeks away from a first-team return.

Craddock has been out since October 16 after coming off in the 1-1 draw with West Ham, but is doing ball work as he recovers from a torn thigh that required an injection on December 11.

“I’m feeling positive,” said the 35-year-old. “I’ve been out this week doing a little bit of ball work and it’s a case of gradually stepping things up.

“I’ve got to be careful about going straight back in and doing too much, so it’s just a matter of building things up this week.

“Then next week I’ll maybe be able to train with the kids ahead of going back in with the first-team again.

“I’m just looking at hopefully building up towards training next week.

“If that goes OK, I’ll look at trying to win my place back in the team. When I get fit there should still be a lot of games left.”

Craddock remains in light training with fellow long-term injury victim Karl Henry, who should be back at the same time following a medial ligament tear.

Evergreen defender Craddock feels better for the treatment. “I can feel the difference from the injection,” he said.

“Looking back now it’s been quite a severe type of thing. I’m still getting aching but not the pulling sensation which is what led to the muscle tear.

“Fingers crossed the muscle won’t tear again.

“There may be some discomfort when I do get back but it wasn’t too bad this week and hopefully won’t be too much of a problem.”

Counting tomorrow’s return against the Hammers, Craddock will have missed 12 out of 20 played this season and he admitted his absence has left him frustrated.

“I thought the original injury might only be two to three weeks,” he said.

“Now it’s up to about 10 which has been really frustrating.”
