Stephen Ward targets Wolves back-to-back wins

Wolves match-winner Stephen Ward today targeted back-to-back wins for the first time this season after claiming his goal at Liverpool was the most important moment of his career.
Ward’s 56th-minute winner secured a 1-0 success at Anfield to lift Wolves off the bottom and to within a point of safety before they travel to basement side West Ham on New Year’s Day.
“If you look at our form it has improved because we’ve won three and lost three out of the last six,” said Ward. “Now we need win two in a row which we haven’t done so far this season.”
Ward’s strike was his first goal in 130 games since netting a winner at Ipswich in February 2007.
“It was probably the most important moment of my career,” he said.
“I was delighted to score – it’s been a long time since I’ve played up front for any period of time but I always feel I can nick one and thankfully it paid off.
“My dad (Sean) and my missus’ dad Mike were at the game, so it was nice that they were here for that.
“But the most important thing was we bounced back and got the right result and I thought we imposed our own game on them and were outstanding. From one to 11 we worked tremendously hard to stop them from playing.”
Ward admitted Wolves owed the fans after their awful performance in losing 2-1 to Wigan on Boxing Day.
“We definitely let the fans down on Sunday and needed to bounce back and show the fans that we deserve to stay in this league,” he said.
“And there was no better place than Anfield to show them how determined we are and how much it means to us to stay in this league than beating Liverpool.
“We matched them up playing 4-4-2 and the gaffer wanted us to press them and get in their faces. We were bottom of the table so there was no point going there and sitting back.
“We needed to impose our game, so the feeling was ‘why not have a go?’ and we did and it paid off.
“It’s all credit to the gaffer for asking us to do that.”
