Mick McCarthy not worrying about his job

Mick McCarthy believes owner Steve Morgan will stand by him as the voices of discontent over Wolves’ plight begin to rise around Molineux.

McCarthy is in desperate need of fresh evidence that he can secure the club’s Premier League place for a second season running — starting with tonight’s demanding clash at a reviving Liverpool.

Wolves are closing 2010 with only four wins so far this season in a campaign from which Morgan hoped for much more as he unveiled plans for Molineux’s £40m development — and a schedule for work which will be heavily influenced by club staying in the top flight.

That performance has inevitably triggered questions about whether McCarthy can survive even allowing for the strength of his relationship with Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey.

But the Wolves manager says he has no reason to doubt their continued faith and backing — and he is not fretting over outside whispers about his job security.

“It’s always the same — it comes from the outside and I don’t worry about that at all,” he said. “I have a great relationship with the people at the club and enjoy a huge amount of faith and trust in me just as I have in them.

“Nobody is happy with the position that we’re in. But I don’t think I need to worry about that (his future). All I am concerned about is Liverpool — that’s it. I don’t waste time reflecting on things over which you have no control.”

After the abrupt sackings of Chris Hughton at Newcastle and Sam Allardyce at Blackburn, the policy Wolves hierarchy have adopted in sticking by McCarthy has been warmly greeted and admired in Premier League circles.

The manager himself enjoys widespread popularity among his peers but McCarthy says he is not interested in sentiment.

“I appreciate the goodwill, I appreciate the fact that maybe the people here will continue to look at what has happened in the last four years here,” he said.

“But I’m not interested in anyone sugar-coating the situation for me. We’re bottom of the table and we played badly on Sunday. That’s all I am interested in and how we are going to change it. Sentiment means nothing to me.”

With Wolves getting ready to back their manager in the January transfer market, all the signs are that the key figures of Morgan and Moxey remain determined to stand shoulder to shoulder with their manager.

He’s not still in a job? God help us.

Lets give Big Sam a chace, while there is still time, defeat at West Ham, will give us a mountain to climb, I hope it does not happen, but the omens do not look good !

Time is up for you mick, you arent capable at this level.
stearman, berra, ward, elokobi, edwards. All players you have signed and persist on playing that arent good enough at this level.
You have to be held accountable for tour baffling tactics, players played out of position and your inability to pick the best side aavailable to you.
I dont blame the players i mentioned, you ask them to do a job and they try their best, i dont question their desire and commitment. Howecer its so obvious to me that they arent good enough and the blame for our plight has to lie with you and you only.
Walk away now and be proud of the job you did for us and the effort you put into it. You have hit a wall now mick and i will be amazed if you manage to get us out of it.

These stories seem to be just designed to wind up the moaners on here. When asked ‘do you fear for your job – especially in the light of the (ridiculous) sackings of Hughton and Allardyce?’ what response would you expect – maybe ‘I know we are struggling but I am lucky to have the support of a board who have some sense of perspective – until I lose that backing I will concentrate on trying to get as many points as possible’.

Still that won’t stop a stream of ‘Just go you Muppet’ posts.

Mick, you have major shortcomings at this level, clearly evident by the inability of the team to keep clean sheets. You now revert to playing 4 full backs each game, Zubar, Foley, Ward and Elokobi – neither Ward or Elokobi would make it into any other premiership squad they are that poor, but your inability to sign a left back is incredible – every team we play targets that side of our team, which makes the centre backs cover and leaevs us open every time.

We need at least 5 first team players in January, not squad players, then we may have a chance of beating relegation, unfortunately Mick, I don’t think you can identify this and will stick with ‘lovely lads’ who ‘put in a shift’

well he should be because he is useless at this level and this is born out by his prem record. When some fans say that we should stick with him because he is our best manager since the 70′s or even Cullis what does that tell you? That we have consistently employed the wrong man. For God’s sake we have the chance to get a really good prem manager in with connections with Wolves – Big Sam Allardyce (he used to stand on the North Bank). Need to act now and get him in before some other club that is actaully ran by by a owner with a smidgeon of ambition makes an easy call and employs a man capable of taking a club forward. Thanks for everything Mick but please resign and let someone with ability and modern methods have a go.

Mick is clearly not worrying about his job as much as I would like. How he can say its only about errors [stearman] at the back I don’t know. Was he at the same match as me? Yes if we had got the pen, Yes if their goalkeeper had not put his leg out. But Mick prem record shows he is not up to the standard we need to stay in the prem. I saw a wide when attacking and narrow Wigan who had movement all through the game. I saw Wolves always playing the high ball from the back, from corners, from crosses onto nobody’s head. This may work in the lower divisions but it will not work in more than 2 out 10 prem games. And also why did he take George off and replace him with Ward. Ward may be a better left back than George but what would that change do for George. Also by playing Ward when our £7m man is sitting on the side lines. What does this say. Mick you are doing things that would just not happen in any other prem team. Its time for change. Please Mr Morgan sort it out now?

I posted earlier and will re-state my beliefs:

    1. If this was Liverpool, Morgan would have sacked Mick by now. Instead, this is a commercial venture for Morgan and he is more concerned about making a profit on building new stadium and hotels. I’m afraid on the football front, his passion is clearly with Liverpool FC.

    2. Moxey is so obsessed , perha$ps quite rightly, with balancing the books that we have no chance of any sort of ambition with him at the helm. The fact the £90,000 a week Lescott is a no no sum’s him up. On loan, for 5 months. equates to £1.8 million. What’s wrong with that ??? you tell me.

Mad Mick will take us down and he’ll be in charge next year. Ward will still play for us as will Henry , Foley, Stearman, Berra and we can welcome back Keogh for next year. All of these are at best, championship players and that suits the ambitions of the club under the 3 M’s nicely.

If you, like me, have had enough, don’t do your early birds. The only way they will get the message is in their pockets.

Next year we’ll net £20 odd million from sales of our best players plus the same again from the parachute payment.

I’m sure that Moxey and Morgan will be more than happy with that. Neither have any particular allegiance to this great club of ours and would be more than happy I’m sure, to walk away whenever it suits them.

Sadly, it’s only us fans that stick with them, through thick and thin.

As for the rest of the prem admiring us for sticking with him,of course they do because they all want 3 easy points.
I cannot believe Morgan will continue to stick with him unless by some miracle things change and i genuinly believe we could be a much better side with a few additions and a bit of tweaking with the side we have if we had a different manager-and there are at least 3 currently out of work.
For all you out there that agree i have sent an e-mail to the club for S. Morgans attention and as much as i don’t expect a reply or on my own to achieve anything maybe if they were inundated with them maybe they might just understand the feelings and possible consequences of doing nothing as i for one will not renew my season ticket if MM remains as manager.

As Jez said live on the radio the cost of materials/bricks are the right price at the moment for us to rebuild. So whether fans renew or not is of little interest, as the capacity we be cut to around 21,000, they’ve said some supporters will lose their seats, for a year or two. So perhaps Morgan’s thinking is during the rebuild MM will get the team promoted again? GOOD LUCK TONIGHT LADS: UTW:

If the worst happened and we were relegated we would lose Doyle and possibly Jarvis to big money. If we kept the rest of the squad and added one or two we would win the Championship and come back stronger with him at the helm.

Leave Mick alone he has fair enough bought flops but the board weren’t going sanction any big buys on big wages. If your always buying cheap second hand crap then you have to buy twice or it ain’t up to the job. Wolves to stay up then take a gamble on staying in the premiership and splash the cash on proven players and pay them. Thats about 30 million on two or three players we need.

Just received a text message from our man in Molineux, message as follows;Mick to leave club at 2300hrs zulu time on 31/12/10,possibly through a trap door, although that cannot be confirmed.Additional intel reveals he has a big nose and a poor brain that doesn’t function below 7 degrees celsius and his pre and post match team talks have left some of the chaps rather confused as regards to what they should do if the ball lands at their feet. All efforts are being made to find a replacement manager, but as yet no-one has been able to contact Martin O’Neil as it appears he has gone on holiday without his mobile phone…….end message……………

Many a club owner has given their manager a “vote of confidence”……………but Mad Mick’s the first manager I’ve known to give HIMSELF a vote of confidence.

    Got to admire his cheek!

I am usually supportive of Mick. But we all should be worried at the lack of application and match fitness shown by a number of players away at Blackburn and home against Wigan. We are in a poor state defensively and in midfield. We lack balance on the right.Frankly if the manager cannot see this,he has lost the plot.

You’re right, 19 – it’s crazy to play a left-back upfront when we’ve got a 7 million striker on the bench. But I have to smile when I remember that, last season, fans complained about playing Ward at LB and now they complain about playing him as a striker. Suddenly he’s a left-back now!

I agree, I’m afraid, with Tamworthwolf and Laughingwolf. We urgently need some experience and stability at the back, and particularly in midfiled. Mick persists in playing people like Stearman,Elokobi and Edwards, who are not good enough at this level, and has not done enough to strengthen the squad.
We must bring in some experienced and talented players in the transfer window, people who are used to playing at this level. However, the best players won’t want to come to a doomed club, why would they ?
I’ve admired Mick’s ability to motivate players to play above themselves, and his strength of character. What I don’t admire is his obstinacy and failure to appreciate quality when he sees it.Positive, skilful attacking midfielders are what we lack.Sorry, Mick !

Take a punt, get Chris Hughton in with Ray Wilkins as the number 2. Got to be honest Sam Allardyce’s football does not inspire me. otherwise go for Sean O’Drisscol, does seem like a major gamble but as sad as it sounds we will probably go down this season only 1 team has ever got out of the situation that we find ourselves in, that was them down the road. With the squad that we have and a small investment i see no reason why we can’t bounce straight back. Mick it will be sad to see you go. What you have done has been great but you’re time has come to an end.

Micks right to focus just on the liverpool game. But lose tonight and at West Ham and the focus will be on his job, and whether its in the best interests of this club for him to stay on.Make no mistake the pressure is building from disgruntled fans and Morgan will have to listen.
Mick may be well respected by other managers but I dont think his personality, man management skills and style of play attracts the quality of players we need to stay in this league. He gets the best out of average ability hard working players but has not managed to get the best out of Miljas and fletcher who are good technical players.
He couldnt do it with Eastwood or Bothroyd and look what DJones has done with him.
I dont expect anything from tonights game cos we cant defend. If we can keep a clean sheet for 30 mins then we have a chance

When there´s a PROVEN PREMIERSHIP MANAGER in BIG SAM who is mainly the peoples choice, is a master of shaking up a squad, and has followed Wolves who PROBERLY WOULD COME HERE to !!

Not many managers would take wolves on right now, i think big sam would and with my FULL AND SUPPORT AS ALWAYS but with abit of PRIDE back into how i feel about the club at the mo

Since the day he was appointed I have been in a state of total dismay. Mick le Twerp is a complete disaster.
I lstened to him pontificating for the BBC during the World Cup. I could not imagine for the life of me, why the Beeb had invited the twerp to commentate. If he was deemed to be so knowledgeable about footy why can’t he get the Wolves out of the mess they are in. He was clever enough to get them in it !
The fact that he stands on the touchline dressed like a refugee from K Mart or the PoundShop says it all ! No class, no idea and soon no job.
Times up Mick, pack thee bags ode son and get thesen back oop North.

Another great performance. Well done, Mick.
Only 2 bad performances all season.

We are where we thought, where bookies thought, where pundits thought, that we would be.

Only difference is that we’re playing far better football than people thought, and coping with far more injuries than thought.

DOn’t even think of sacking our best manager for a generation. Don’t you lot remember our pre-Mick Championship struggles?

Mick McCarthy has his faults but he is the best Wolves manager for many years.

Those who want to sack Mick should remember: Sammy Chung, John Barnwell, Graham Hawkins, Tommy Doherty, Bill McGarry, Sammy Chapman, Brian Little, Graham Turner, Graham Taylor, Mark McGhee, Colin Lee, Stuart Gray and Glenn Hoddle.

In the last twenty seven years only Dave Jones and Mick have taken Wolves out of the second division, and only Mick has kept them in the division.
