It’s a ‘no lose’ game for Kevin Foley
Tuesday 28th December 2010, 11:07AM GMT.
Captain Kevin Foley today claimed Wolves are in a ‘no lose’ situation going to Liverpool tomorrow.
Wolves will attempt to get back on track after the damaging 2-1 defeat to Wigan on Boxing Day left them rock bottom for the first time this season.
Reds boss Roy Hodgson is under pressure after two wins in the last eight games left Liverpool 10th.
Wolves will still be without seven injured players and Foley believes Mick McCarthy’s side can thrive on an Anfield stage nowhere near as formidable as it used to be.
“We’re in a no-lose situation going to Liverpool,” said the stand-in skipper.
“We’ll be underdogs and no one will expect us to get anything. If we can get a result it will be great.
“It’s good it’s so soon after the Wigan game so we can try to get it out of our system.
“There’s nothing worse than waiting a long time for the next game.
“If we can do ourselves proud and get a result, we can move on.”
Foley admitted Wolves need to give themselves something to cling to and urged a return to the convincing performance that sank Birmingham 17 days ago. “The main thing is to stay solid early on which is something we haven’t been too good at so far this season,” said the 26-year-old.
“We need to get ourselves something to build on like we did against Birmingham when we kept a clean sheet.
“We need many more clean sheets if we’re going to survive.”
“It’s frustrating as a player when there is inconsistency, just as it must be for the fans.
“No one was more disappointed than the lads in the dressing room on Sunday, but we have to pick ourselves up and look to bounce back in the next game.
“It’s a fresh opportunity for us to start again after a frustrating performance to say the least.
“We’ve got some key players coming back from injury soon which should give us a boost.”

Well said kevin, but you know you know theres no point talking up a game if you cant produce on the pitch like you failed to do on Sunday.Lets hope there is some spine in this team and pride but I have to say I’m dreadin it tommorow,If we defend like we did on sunday, it could be embarrasing.

Why don’t they just shut up and talk on the pitch!
“We can not lose”, “We have to win”, “Must-win game”, “No way can we lose”, just shut up and put up Wolves!
for me this headline says, if we lose then we don’t need to worry because were not expected to win anyway.
I would like to think we go out and try to win every game being the underdog or not.every player needs to stand up and be tall tomorrow as we do need to win it or possibly been left at the bottom with too many points adrift to make up.
MM must know he is on borrowed time because i cant think of any other proffesion that is driven by results that he would still be in this marvelous job that he finds himself in.
Get it right or get out.

Players should spend more time getting the game right rather than waste time and energy talking to the media. They end up looking real daft when it goes wrong on the pitch.
See Dave Edwards pre Wigan musings and compare with what took place!!!!!!!

Sorry Foley but Wolves are in a lose-lose situation tomorrow night!
Can anyone barring ‘Super Mick’ as you all call him, see Wolves even scoring at Anfield let alone winning or getting a point?
Liverpool are not the team they used to be these days but they will be too good for the gold and black Titanic.
Scoreline Liverpool 3 Wolves 0!
You are going down boys!!!

We’ve had at least 7 ‘no lose’ games this season that we’ve already lost, and were all far easier on paper than a trip to Anfield! 7 defeats in a row away from home is relegation form in any league, I hope I’m wrong, but looks like 8 in a row tomorrow night!! Mick says we’ll go all out for the win – will that be playing 1 up front?????

Here we go again “we’ll do this” and “we’ll do that”!
YEAH YEAH we’ve heard it all before god knows how many times!
Yet another player talking a good game off the pitch!

You lot all need to be quiet and have a bit of faith and pride! Wolves have been massively hit by injuries this season, which was something that didn’t effect us last year. McCarthy is doing his best with the squad he has and come what may, we should get behind the lads and stop all this pathetic whining! We have some very good players that will ensure the club bounces back should we go down. However all is not lost, and with players returning, we could easily climb the table. Super Mick is full of determination to do the very best for Wolves, with no other agenda. Remember if you will the days after Turner. Apart from Jones, there’s been no one of quality. McGee, Taylor, Lee, Hoddle etc etc …. All useless. Support your team please!!!
How can wolves be in a `no lose` situation ??? Looks like they have thrown the towel in already with that approach. If thick mick mcnuggett plays his best players, in the right positions it might be a start. Unfortunately he and his staff do not have a clue how to pick a decent team, with a bit of shape and get them playing to their strengths. It can be done e.g Coyle at Bolton, Holloway at Blackpool, but McCarthy`s can`t see it for his EGO. Worse than that he and Moxey have managed to brainwash Morgan as well.
We shouldn’t be in the position where comments like this are made. I suppose he has to say this but it would have meant more if we’d beaten Wigan. Anyway, how many more times are we going to hear this from the dressing room? Pick yourselves up – grief, you’re always falling over! I despair.
hang on is that foley talking up a game like edwards did before the wigan game or is he reading mccarthys notes sounds like both to me. lets get one thing straight here wolves will go to anfield with the same starting 11 as against wigan you can bet on that. mccarthy aint gonna drop ward and play fletcher up front no matter what. it will be 4-5-1 with seb the lone frontman. we all know it before mccarthy even picks the team. lets face it until something gets sorted in that boardroom nothing is gonna change and when they want to make a change it will be to late.

What ambitious player of any substance is going to come to Wolves now that we are relegation fodder. many ‘key’ players out but even so we should have beaten Wigan.
We do not have sufficient ‘winnable’ games left to survive and anyway exactly which team is winnable for us. Wigan are terrible.
I think the crazy decisions (Fletcher on bench) reveal Mick’s time as come.
So the decision is doess Mick get a chance to take us out of the championship next year or do we get someone in now to start the rebuilding.
If we do go down Foley will go, Jarvis will go, Fletcher and Doyle will go and probably several more.
We have always been short of defenders under Mick yet all great managers make defecnce their first priority. We haven’t, we’re stuffed just like my turkey last Saturday – only it could probably have played better.

How about you Mr Foley and your teamates stop rattling on in the press with a load of hot air. Give us results on the pitch, that is what matters and what the fans want rather than reading this drivel everyday.
One thing Foley is right about is keeping clean sheets.
If you get a clean sheet you give yourself half a chance of a point. Nick a goal and you get 3. We dont keep enough clean sheets to stay up!!
Even if you lose one goal it means you need to score 2 to win. Id rather not lose a goal and just require one for 3 points. We just make it far too difficult for ourself letting a goal or goals in every game!

I was under the impression that all games were a “no lose game”

I used to, many years ago, get excited about going to Anfield. Not now. Its just another tired run down ground living on past distant glorys, long gone now and never to return i fear. They have to watch the clubs from Manchester and London doing what they used to do 30 years ago. It hurts em. They think they should still feed at the top table, and that makes them just look sad. So when cheshire kop boy comes on hear givin it large it just makes me feel sorry for him and his fallen giant of a club.We at Wolves know our limitations, but sadly, they dont. Not yet.

Can anyone give me the answer to these questions please?
1. Does anyone know if the company contracted to build our new stadium is owned by Steve Morgan?
If yes, then this exercise to build a new stadium is just to line Morgan’s pockets because we don’t need a 40000 seater stadium, we can’t fill a 29000 stadium.
2. What is the real reason why McCarthy is still manager, because I haven’t heard a valid reason yet? NO OTHER MANAGER would still be in charge at ANY CLUB AT ANY LEVEL with the same record as Mick.
3. Why do we NEVER EVER see Moxey or Morgan interviewed on TV?
4. Why are the fans being treated so disrespectfully?
In my opinion this situation stinks of corruption. The word FIFA comes in to mind. It’s all about MONEY and always will be.
I will defiantly not be renewing mine and my son’s season ticket if Mick McCarthy is still in charge. It is so embarrassing to watch and be associated with this shambles. I can’t believe the sheer arrogance and ignorance of the hierarchy in charge. Unfortunately, whatever is written on these pages makes no difference what so ever, it’s just a means of letting off steam, which is a good thing.
I read these pages every day and it’s been the same old story for months now. I think we just need to accept that it’s all political and money motivated and we as fans have no influence at all. As long as Morgan has our money up front via a season ticket then nothing will change. It’s really sad to admit that the only way the fans can make a difference is not to purchase tickets therefore money doesn’t come in to the club. That will hit home, but we all know (including Moxey and Morgan) that this will never happen because us as fans love our club and always will no matter what.
I really hope that there are big changes soon because I want to watch Premiership football next season, but I feel it’s too late now because I can’t see where our next win is coming from if we stick with this set up.
Anyway, that it from me now, a very disheartened wolves fan

Bullywolf you are absolutely right. This is the 1st time I’ve made a comment but see that the number of negative comments coming from so called suppoters who lack any knowledge of how to manage a team has got to an irritating stage. We have in effect only half a squad,we put out a team against the blues with four academy players on the bench and a record signing recovering from a virus who had lost half a stone and yet we won and the only reason we won was the determination from the team who are playing for this manager, the best we’ve had for such a very long time.He came on board with a nothing team when we all thought we could get relegated from the championswhip who instead gave us hope that something much much better was around the corner and it was promotion as champions in his third year.We played decent football last season and in the end remainded comfortably in the premiership .The majority of supporters are behind the manager and as is often the case the more vocal ones are calling for his head.Interestingly the more vocal ones tned to name calling like muppethead and clipboard so one can only imagine their emotional range and maturity. When we lose I hurt and am passionate about supporting my team I dont boo (dont have a problem if others do it after the game ,those who do during the game should hang their head in shame .Staying up of going down I’ll be there and I support Mick whole heartedly in either case .

I gave myself a big slap in the face this season & decided not to attend away games (i couldn’t bring myself to stop the home also) not because i didnt enjoy it, as i did, the travelling banter, the drink before hand, the singing etc was always worth it BUT!!! the worst thing about the day was usually the match! considering the ticket price was nearly 50% of the cost of the day then something didnt sit right with me! Watching us play such drivel & watching MM make some shocking tactical decisions was enough for me!
THE FOOTBALL WE PRODUCE IS SO AMATEURISH ITS UNTRUE, WE BARELY HAVE THE ABILITY TO PUT A 3 PASS MOVE TOGETHER.
All you fans that will jump on me saying i must support my team through thick & thin, YOUR RIGHT! & by large I HAVE! but i can’t put up with being mugged off by the club anymore, we pay a high price for watching such apalling football! & im not just on about the wigan game!
We have spent more money than ever in last 2 seasons and we are WORSE off in my opinion! to give MM any more cash would be ludicrous!
His total lack of respect for us fans is amazing! and all this coming from the WORST MANAGER IN PREM HISTORY!! MM it’s in black & white YOUR THE NUMPTY! not us!
What do you and clipboard do all week? there seems to be know tactics what so ever! so much for horses for courses! you send out the same team & personel week in week out with the same playing style! i can see it, so other prem managers must be having a field day preparing for us! The tactic of playing back to keeper from kick off so he can hoof! WTF??? i was taught to do that at under 11 level!
THIS GREAT CLUB IS LEAKING FANS AND QUICK!
I don’t think i have ever seen tickets available for a boxing day game at the MOL for years nor have i seen tickets for pool at home and away available with such a short time remaining before the games!
DOES THIS NOT SEND YOU A MESSAGE MORGAN THAT US FANS WANT THIS MUPPET OUT!!
my guess is 14k season ticket holders next year if he stays! THE LOWEST FOR HOW LONG??

Theres die hard supporters and theres realists. Makes me laugh when I read that we have to have faith in the team and things will work out ok. Wake up and smell the coffee. Dont get me wrong, I want Wolves to do well, I was born and bread here. But, you must face upto reality, we have a championship team, a manager and his sidekick who have no idea about tactics and the use of players. How much money has he wasted and not used the players. In any other business, he would have been sacked by now. Newcastle sacked their manager and look what position they were in.
I agree with alot that the players ought to shut up with their predictions and do the talking on the pitch.
The whole club needs a change, from management to several players.

Do you pay to go watch wolves ?
Cos i do, and it costs me half my weeks wages to go and watch my team in the freezing cold knowing the football we will play will be sunday league standard, punt up field and hope for the best…
… Well, sorry mate, but i have a good reason to moan ! WE ARE BOTTOM, and THE JOKE of the PREM !
You say its not micks fault cos he has soo many injuries, yet he bought Hunt and that pants hull defender when they were both injured, AND has SICK NOTE Daley to get them fit which is funny if your NOT a Wolves fan.
He plays a differnt line up, in differnt positions EVERY MATCH ! and leaves his signings out cos there either not interested, not good enuff or not brown nosers.
But, manages to play his favourites week in week out cos he finds a place on the pitch for them no matter what position they play.
And its no coinsidence, were bottom with some of the worst stats ive seen, THE ONLY MANAGER IVE SEEN WITH LESS CLUE WHAT ABOUT HIS TEAM IS TWODDLE.
Who´s fault is that then ?…. MICKS !
You say Micks doing his best… WELL WERE BOTTTOM, so his best sucks, TURN THE TABLE ROUND YOU MUST HAVE IT UPSIDE DOWN OR WEARING GOLD TINTED SPECS.
I commend you both for keeping blind faith in Mick and his favourites, but BLIND FAITH WILL SEE US IN FREE FALL.
Do you really think Micks the man to keep us up ?
Even more important, do you think he´s the man to yoyo us back up ?
And even more important, do you think mick would ever do more than see us relagated again with shocking STATS ?
YES he kept us up, but Portsmouth were DOCKED POINTS, Burnley were there by accident and Newcastle have the worst owner ever sending them into freefall
This year, we have blackpool with in my opinion the best up and coming manager in the league, Albion who have bought very well and look better than us even doh they have just come up and Newcastle who still have the worst owner going but also have a good premiership experianced team.
Now be honest, you dont really think its just down to being unlucky with injuries is why were bottom do ya ¿?

39 DARREN, WELL SAID PAL. THERE are a lot of other questions to be answered but yours are good enough for starters. I don´t doubt Morgans company will get the contract for the stadium, if it is ever going to get built. I wouldn´t be at all surprised either if the grand plan is to be a yo yo team for a while, never mind Moxeys assurances that we were NOT going to do a West Brom.
Yep the world is full of sh*t and lies and there is every chance we got dumped with a speculator who banked on the likes of us to take all the dross MM is delivering lying down. Most people do of course, especially loyal fans of the beautiful game. The game people like the 3M´s have taken away from the fan and turned towards their own greedy ends.
They think they have the manager to take us forward, they´re probably right. When we are back in the Championship HE WILL BE. Like you I don´t want that to happen. Keep the faith is all we can do, apart from NOT BUYING THE SEASON TICKET . Maybe keep the faith there, I could stand to miss a season, particularly if it´s more of the same rubbish as this one has been so far. Never mind the crass and abjectly stupid comments made by both players and manager alike to the press.

Head Held High – You really are deluded. Mick did well to bring us up but does not have the skill set to compete with the other PREMIERSHIP quality managers. A manager is judged on his results. Look at his record. It truly is abismal.
I am all for supporting the team and the manager but that doesnt mean people have to bury their head in the sand and support things that go on which are not good enough. We all pay our money and attend the matches and all have a valid opinion. When we are rock bottom and playing our left back up front istead of our “record signing”, dont you think theres an issue??
If you believe and support every statement the club release to the press then how do you make your mind up who to vote for at election?? You cant vote for them all and they all tell you to vote for them. You do have the ability to make your own mind up, when we are rock bottom with a guy in charge who fails to inspire and deliver results then surely people can decide enough is enough. 40 – Head Held High. – Some of your points are valid. May I say I wanted Mick before we actually got him. Since his arrival I have supported him. I do have doubts now however. Can you accept that? Isn’t that natural in any occupation, any walk of life? When you travel 300 miles total for home games (petrol costs as Leeds Wolf remarked recently?) and have done for 15 years as a season ticket holder, surely one is entitled to raise doubts. Keep the faith yes, but not blind faith. Who’s having the most fun/memorable time so far this season, us or, say, Blackpool fans? You correctly referred to our injury problems, but what sort of a squad do they have? I hope Mick can pull it round and I’ll be pleased for him and especially us if he does. Number 40 – I’m a loyal fan of nearly 60 years’ standing (OK, some of it sitting) – entitled to a few grumbles, I think. Personally, I think Kevin Foley should do his talking on the pitch. He was bloody awful on Sunday, although even he must know he is not a midfielder. He is scared to tackle. There were at least three 50:50 balls and he backed out of all of them.

The same as edwards not a right winger.
The same as ward not a striker, left back and not a premier league quality player.
Berra, elokobi, stearman, hennessey. The list goes on. The problem is its not their fault. They have been signed and played by mick mccarthy. I dont for one minute question the effort, commitment and hard work that these players put in, but its not good enough and that lies with the manager, he has to be held accountable.
Mick is just not capable at this level, what worries me is if we do go down and mick isnt sacked then what next? Even if we come back up what is the point? All these players will stil be here along with a new batch of tryers.
We desperatly need a frsh approach. Please morgan get big sam in. Proven premier league manager with the lesser sides of the division. He will turn us around, even if it was too late this season by the time he gets the job, he would get us back up and establish us.

Sorry, I don’t recall stating he is a bad player, just that he was a joke on Sunday, which he was, when he is allowing 2nd rate Wigan players to be constantly goal side of him & he was supposed to be our defensive midfielder. protecting our already suspect back 4, as I said I’d prefer him to do his defending on the pitch, which as I recall is his very well paid job & not bleating in the media after turning in a performance as dire as that.
Why do you seem to have a problem with that???

Hey Grace, I can spell usually but like in your case, sorry it was a typo. Temper temper now, you really don´t like to be questioned to closely, do you? Anyway, leeks munched and Baahhs Baahhed what was it you actually meant by your typo “most”? Just curious.

I often wonder how we would have faired in the Prem 1st time around if Dave Jones had the same amount of funds available to him?
Seems like MM is on the verge of joining the Geln Hoddle achool of management, waste waste then waste some more of the chairmans hard earned!
