Mick McCarthy rages at penalty call
Monday 27th December 2010, 10:29AM GMT.
Angry Wolves boss Mick McCarthy revealed he will no longer bother designating a penalty taker after his side were denied another spot-kick against Wigan.
McCarthy was annoyed Steve Gohouri’s 23rd- minute flattening of Stephen Ward in yesterday’s 2-1 defeat, the latest of several penalties Wolves have missed out on this season.
They have also been denied spot-kick decisions against Newcastle and Tottenham.
“At 2-0 we had an absolute stonewall penalty turned down for the challenge on Stephen Ward,” said McCarthy. “It should have been a penalty.
“Let’s not bother having any designated penalty takers – we don’t need to have one because it doesn’t look like we’re going to get one.
“I think about Newcastle here, Tottenham away, yesterday – I’m sure I’d think of more with time. If we’re not going to get any of those we’re not likely to get any.”
McCarthy blasted referee Mike Dean’s decision.
“Ward got goal-side and he brought him down,” he said. “We haven’t had a penalty yet in the league and judging on some of the non-decisions I don’t know how we don’t get one.”
Meanwhile, Wolves could be boosted be the return of two captains in a fortnight with the return of Jody Craddock and Karl Henry.
The pair have been badly missed, but are set to make their comebacks this month from thigh and knee injuries. “Karl and Jody are both experienced players and it does make life difficult,” said McCarthy.
“Doyle and Henry are still at least a couple of weeks away.
“Sadly we won’t have their services for a while.
“We’re missing a few and I don’t know how many teams would cope with losing their captain and vice-captain.
“I suppose we just get on with it and don’t whinge about it and just put up with it.
“Steven Mouyokolo (back) is a couple of weeks away.”
McCarthy was boosted yesterday by the availability of Matt Jarvis, Steven Fletcher and David Jones.
Jarvis set up Fletcher’s consolation after both made their comebacks as substitutes.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.

Yes we were unlucky with the penalty decision but that didn’t lose us the game. We were just woeful. An apology to the fans who turned up in the freezing conditions (unlike the team) wouldn’t go amiss.

Clutching at straws M.M.?…load of rubbish and if we lost the game because we didnt get a penalty you are more clueless than I thought,…ive been a season ticket holder for over 20yrs but this will be the last time I renew while this tactically inept person is in charge whether we stay up or not,…I expect a minimum of 100% effort for my money and we didnt even give that yesterday….but hey I suppose im a numpty now!!…but this numpties money is staying in his pocket this this muppet is in charge.

He does not “WHINGE”.
I hope the HAPPY CLAPPERS are happy, sorry very HAPPY to see WOLVES bottom of the league!”.
Do you still think MICK is your saviour?
When players are fit he does not play them ,when they are unfit we need them the man is clueless.
Stats never lie MICK as played 96 games in the premiership and won 15…!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have 18 games remaining and we need to win around 8!!Wigan had not won away for the last 8 and had not scored two goals for dont know how many years!!
My message is the same “GET RID OF THE HAPPY CLAPPERS AND MICK AT ONCE!!!!”
Have been saying this since last season and never wavered even after the odd win!!!!

Do us all a favour Mick, and give up, so that someone can come in like Chris Hughton, who is hungry for success. Someone who does not keep putting square pegs in round holes.
Someone who will keep us in this league, as going down will only put us back 2 or 3 years. Act now and save our season!

Does anyone else feel completely in different to what mick says now? In two weeks time we will have a few players back, but there are 5 games in that period!
Even if they are fit I am sure he will pick Ward ahead of them regardless of position. The debate has to move on to WHEN, not IF he goes.
Off to Anfield on Wednesday, if Liverpool score early it could be a big loss. Our defence conceded two to one of the worst teams in the league. Berra, stearman, foley, mouyokolo are not consistent enough for the premier league.
I can’t see where our next win will come from. There are no worse sides than us this season. The blame is all yours mick, not the referees or the fans.

We are not bottom of the league on chance or one penalty,we are bottom because despite large amounts of money spent we have a clueless incompetant arrogant Manager who likes to do it his way.For any doubters check out his record in the Premiership I cant think of anybody with a worse record, its not rocket science.

sorry folks as much as it pains me to say it but unless the teams around us start playing as bad as we are (which i doubt) we are gonna be in the championship next season, please go now mick and lets get big sam in (point to prove) and hopefully save our season.

penalty or no penalty, we got from the game, what we deserved NOTHING !
Other teams have penalty claims turned down, other teams hit the woodwork, other teams miss chances, just face it Mick, although it hurts to say, we are bottom of the league, only one clean sheet, can’t defend and can’t score and have lots of willing players in their wrong positions. I will not even mention the word tactics !

McCarthy, I have just opened the E&S web site fully expecting to see you had got the sack.
What happened? your still there.
If you cared for the club or had ANY pride you would have resigned by now.
That was bordering on one of the worst games of football I have EVER seen, including our demise to the Fourth division.
It was all huff and puff. Absolute crap.
JUST GO PLEASE

MM thinks we will be alright when he has all his players available! does he not realise when he had them we were still not winning. The truth is he has not got a clue what a goodplayer is which he proves week in and week out by playing shift players, but even that no longer applies except for WARD!!!!!.
Tactics why are we the only team who give tha ball to the opposition streight from the kick off. Forward then streight back to the goalie and big boot upfield and guess what the opposition have the ball… and yes how many goals have we had scored against us in the fist feee minutes. I haven’t been on a coaching course but clip board and MM have!!!!
So Mr MORGAN PLEASE DO THE LONG SUFFERING FANS A FAVOUR AND GET RID OF THEM. PS IF THEY RAN YOUR BUILDING COMPANY THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN SACKED LONG AGO.

Is it me or does MM always seem room to fit Steven Ward in?
How can we have a 7m striker sitting on the bench just because he doesn’t want to drop Ward!
Matt Jarvis – Our best player by a mile, sitting on the bench, explanation MM?
Ok it may be argued that we stuck with the same team that beat blues, bur let’s not kid ourselves, blues were terrible.
Kevin Foley is not a CM, David Edwards is not a RW! Play players in their natural positions you NUMPTY!

If the man spent half as much time figuring out the correct team to start the match as he does thinking of amusing quotable aphorisms for journalists to write down at the post-match press conference we’d probably be in the Champions League spots by now.
When Wigan do the double over you with four unanswered goals in the first 177 minutes of the two games, you have to acknowledge that the trapdoor is open and you’re striding manfully towards it.
Big up my man Duster, who I know is a big fan of my posts on here. See you in the NewH in the near future, blahhhhd!

RAF Wolf – I agree that Stearman is at best a Championship level defender, but Foley, a right back who’s been told to play in midfield? He’s not played in defence for ages.
Why don’t we play Foley at RB, Zubar at CB and Jarvis wide? Their natural positions!

Can someone tell me why we need a 40,000 seater stadium when we can’t fill 28,000 now we are in the prem.
Why can we not play Jarvis and Fletcher and try to get ahead and then take them off later if need be.
Ward was one of the only players to get stuck in yesterday but how on earth can you expext someone to play striker and left back in the same match!
Team selection and tactics are bonkers we are a laughing stock.
How long Lord will this fiasco go on?

The number of goals against even in our promotion season was awful, continued last season and the same this year.
MM can not pick a centre half to save his life and we have the same defenders as last year.
Steve Morgan and Jez Moxey must take some blame any manager who wants to spend £14 million on relegation players will surely get one thing
RELEGATION
Time to act Steve

3 – Eire
Who do you think you are to tell proper supporters (look up the definition) to leave the club?
Why do you take such pride in being consistently negative?
The answer to the question is at Villa last season.
Yes we were very poor yesterday, yes we need to strengthen, yes we need ral fans now more than ever.
Let’s look on the Brightside.
We WILL BE RELEGATED!
BUT
New young Manager MAY be signed.
WE WILL SELL –
SEB, Doyle, Fletcher, Jarvis, Zubar, Hunt and have millions in the bank!
The BOARD will then give it to MM to SQUANDER ONCE AGAIN!!
After all the sacrifices a lot of us supporters make to buy season tickets, we get rewarded by the likes of the pathetic performance against a team that WILL ALSO be RELEGATED.
Following our relegation I for one, will not renew my season ticket as the club will inevitably put up prices and tell us that we are getting more games for our money!!
The BOARD HAVE NO STOMACH FOR SACKING ANYONE.
Just wondering how players like Jarvis, Fletcher and Jones feel about not getting into the team behind Ward, Foley and Edwards?
Why would anyone give MM money in January as he will spend it badly and leave them on the bench anyway? SIDWELL??????????????
What the hell do we need a second rate player like Sidwell for – Oh yes – to go with all the other second rate players who started the game yesterday!!

3 Wanderer in Eire,MM was sacked after 28 matches in charge of Sunderland when his record read played 28 won 2 drawn 4 lost 22,He has overseen 56 in charge of Wolves having won 13 drawn 14 and lost 29.so his complete record is 15 wins in 84,almost 1 in 6 Championship here we come.

2 things. First is easy – Mike Dean cheated us out of what was one of the most blatant penalties Ive seen. Mike Dean – you are a disgrace not giving that one.
The second – not so easy. Does Mick say – Ive taken you as far as I can and Im leaving it to someone else now or does SM sack him ?? Prefer the former myself !! Will respect what MM has done for us as long as I live. It is time for him to go now tho – let Big Sam manage the club he supported as a boy and give him the money to spend in January !!Then we could well stay up !!

I apologise for having a go at the critics at this time last year. I said that we would survive our first season in the Premier league and improve this year. I now live 2,000 miles from Molineux but every match day struggle through 90 minutes watching the minutes go by on BBC live. For the first time ever I switched off after the 20th minute yesterday. How many more times do we have to shoot ourselves in the foot? Yesterday was a great chance to move out of the bottom three. In less than a week the transfer season starts. Any serious footballer would have looked at plying his trade at Molineux when he looked at a team and manager that was making efforts at staying in the PL. No player in his right mind will want to come to a team guaranteed of playing in a lower league next season. Where are the points coming from in the next 4 or 5 matches? What was the point of spending all that money in the summer when those players don’t play? What’s the point of an extended stadium? Keane, Lescott and even Fred Bloggs wouldn’t come here. Mick may be a nice guy but the other 2M’s need to support the fans that pay at the gate. Much better managers have got the bullet this season. There are three days left to the New Year, 2M’s need to make a decision and give hope to thousands of Wolves supporters all over the world in 2011. A Happy New Year to you all.

Pitiful rag bag performance. No idea of tactics. Manager and coach abysmal. No excuses any more Mick. You were an average center half and so have been all your center halves. Get yourself a job in the Championship mate, by all means. But NOT with Wolves.

I think Mick has to do what I am about to do and that is to realise how wrong you can be.
For most of this season, I have thought the following (don’t laugh):-
1. Mick has got us playing with commitment and that will ultimately be the thing to save us.
2. Stephen Ward has developed into a competent LB – the best in the club – and is a fine servant.
3. Richard Stearman is a good player.
4. Kevin Doyle is quality and the goals will come.
5. We have had some rotten luck and this will turn.
I now agree with the majority of you – we simply aren’t good enough and the manager has to take the blame and go. Yesterday was the final straw.

Last season ticket for me this season, after over twenty years!
Not just because of the way we are playing (or not!), but that certainly has helped my decision. We craved the Premier League for so many years, and give it up at the shake of a hat. McCarthy is limited, Morgan is Red and Moxey is greed personified!
All this and a Premier League where the players where snoods and gloves on centrally heated pitches, all for 100k a week, the World has gone mad, and I cannot condone paying for a season ticket.

What a smoke screen
2 penalty shouts yes but Mick
How many chances did we create?
how many shots on target?
how many crucial saves did their keeper make?
We were already 2 nil down to 2 dreadful sunday league defensive mistakes by then and the game was already over. Its not like it was nil nil.
I wish we had won a penalty and scored, because I could have easily seen wigan getting a 3rd or 4th goal and you would have no more excuses.

What penalty?, it was six of one and half a dozen of another. ALBION have had penalty appeals turned down, has Di Matteo written a blog about it?, NO.
You see he understands football and knows the referee has the final say at the same time he is well aware the referee is only human. He has played FOOTBALL at the highest level and understands it.
