Michael Mancienne back at Chelsea
Friday 24th December 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Wolves’ on-loan utility man Michael Mancienne has returned to Chelsea after his knee injury ruled him out of the festive programme.
Mancienne missed the 1-0 win against Birmingham 12 days ago with a patella tendon problem, which forced him off in the 3-0 defeat at Blackburn on December 4.
The 22-year-old had a scan on Monday and he has now returned to Chelsea, who could recall him next month under the terms of his season-long loan.
“He’s gone back to Chelsea for now because they want to have a look at him,” said boss Mick McCarthy. “They want to examine him and assess him and I need to speak to someone there and find out.
“He’s their player so we have to be conscious of that.
“He’s got quite a swollen tendon on his knee so we don’t know the timescale yet. As part of the loan deal there is a date when he can be recalled, if they wanted to.”
Kevin Doyle remains out for the foreseeable future, although Jody Craddock’s injection in his thigh was a success.
“Doyle’s got two or three little tears including one that’s still there, right in his thigh and it’s still bothering him,” said the boss.
“Jody’s had his injection and the specialist who did it was delighted with it. He’s just got to get himself right now. But he’s delighted with the procedure he’s had.”
