Wolves optimistic of game go-ahead
Thursday 23rd December 2010, 10:00AM GMT.
Wolves today insisted they are “optimistic” of their Boxing Day home game against Wigan going ahead despite the Arctic conditions.
Providing the forecast of no more snow proves correct, club officials expect Molineux to be playable and for the surrounding areas to be safe enough to prevent a second successive postponement following Sunday’s Black Country derby at Albion.
Secretary Richard Skirrow said: “We remain optimistic of the game going ahead.
“The undersoil heating has been switched on for about three weeks – it’s controlled via a thermostat and automatically kicks in as required – and it’s working well.
“Undersoil heating is of only limited use if we get a heavy snowfall in a short period of time too close to kick-off.
“But the forecast suggests we’ve seen the last of the snow before the Wigan game so that should cease to be a problem, although the temperatures on Christmas night are expected to be very cold – down to minus 7 degrees C or possibly double figures.
“The pitch should still cope with that and, providing there’s no more snow, we can make the pitch and the surrounding areas safe.”
Wolves are also having to cope with associated concerns inside the stadium.
Skirrow said: “One of the problems is frozen water pipes in the stands, because the concourses get very cold and we’re dealing with various leaks and bursts at the moment.
“But the club is making every effort to get the game on. A body of stewards cleared the training ground on Tuesday before joining a team at Molineux doing the same.
“Since then we’ve had more snow so they’ve got to do it again but, providing we have no more snow, I’m confident we can make the stadium and approaches acceptably safe.
“We outsource some gritting and have some of our own supplies as well as a gritting attachment and, between all those elements, we’re usually OK.”
Yesterday’s planned training game at Molineux was switched to a smaller area at Compton, because management didn’t want the snow compacted at the ground.
Compton doesn’t yet have undersoil heating. The pipes were laid for it in the summer, but the gas supply to fuel it from the main building needs to be upgraded.

Get it on – Christmas without Boxing Day football is like Jez without his hair gel!
On another note, was anyone else a bit confused by the idea that we wouldn’t use the indoor training facitilies in case of injuries??

in door training is ok for low level impact training but mm likes to train at a high tempo, so injury is more likely indoors, anymore news on lescott or keane?

2) I have seen a report today and Lescott will not happen. Permanent transfer only and on £90k a week!

No1 Noisy, Jez will have been saving on the gas bill.Happy Christmas to everybody and loads of good luck to Mick and the lads.Let us make it a relegation free New Year.

Well, even if the match DOESN’T go ahead, we can at least take festive heart from the reports linking us with Glenn Whelan of Stoke.
Oh.

I really hope the game goes ahead as I feel with our performances we will give somebody a good hiding soon and I think it will be Wigan infront of a full house on Boxing day to take us out of the relegation zone and make it two wins in a row followed by a point at Anfield and our first away win at West Ham and another The Poorthorns.
Lots of returning players and a good January transfer window.
WE ARE WOLVES

I cant believe we are even interested in Glenn Whelan ,he’s another Greg Halford, a very poor / average player at best. I hope the game goes ahead and we pick up a much needed 3pts ,but it wont be ‘easy’ Wigan on their day can be hard to beat. GOOD LUCK TO THE LADS: UTW: ”HAPPY XMAS TO ALL ON THE BOARDS”

Thanks to the Albion game getting called of we were able to make sure we weren’t bottom at Christmas. The most we could hope for at the moment.

Left back, left back – we need a left back!!
We also need to replace Mancienne and Marcus Bent oh and a decent centre back – then I genuinley believe we will be ok……

No.8-JJ What are you talking about??? Even if we lost had the West Brom game been played we would still not be bottom because that would depend on West Ham’s results. Have you thought of taking a GCSE in common sense???

hope this games on must win !!
@5 your a idoit i read the other day where you stated that you won the perm with wolves on football manager by signing 4 players carnt remember who they was n you said if wolves signed those 4 players we would be alright thats just stupid so what your sayin really is if we signed those players we would win the permership yeah right like that would ever happen you carnt compare a game to real life thats just daft

Any news of interest in Jones? Would Whelan be seen as a substitute for him, if he goes, or as cover for the injured Adlene? Is Whelan truly the type of player we want at this stage? I have my doubts. Still, there may be nothing in it. Hope the game goes ahead on Sunday with three points for us -sorry, can’t be there for this one. Merry Christmas to everyone who uses these boards. UTW.

No. 12 Have you had a sense of humour bypass? or are you American and do not understand irony. PeteNuts was just attempting to be whimsical (look it up!) Merry Xmas to all (even baggies).

I really hope that Mick sees sense and makes a determined bid to get Shay Given, we are in dire need of a TOP Class keeper seeing that USA is going back home and I dont think that Hennessey is ready yet.Solidarity starts with the keeper followed by a strong Central Defender and top players down the spine of the team.Happy Xmas to all on here and an even happier one to the players and management at Wolves.

Come on Wolves – minimum of 6 points from the next 3 games will be a brilliant Christmas (and New Year) present.
Merry Christmas to everyone on here.
