Luckless winger Michael Kightly is on course to hand Wolves a new year boost after his latest operation was hailed as a success.

Kightly has now undergone surgery on both knees to address inflammation of his patella tendons and manager Mick McCarthy said the former England Under-21 international is “buzzing”.

The 24-year-old, who hasn’t played since November 29 last year, is nine days into his six-week rehabilitation period and, all being well, will return to full training in the next two months.

“Kightly is buzzing – he’s feeling really good,” said the boss.

“The timescale is six weeks and then we’ll see from there.

“The knee he’s had done is brilliant – he’s really buzzing about it and it wasn’t half as bad as the other one.”

Kightly won’t be fully fit by the end of the January transfer window when clubs must submit their final 25-man squads for the rest of the season.

But McCarthy has refused to rule him out of inclusion.

“We’ll see. I don’t know if we’ll have 25 players anyway,” added the boss.

“It might be that I leave one berth open. We will see. It would be lovely to have him back.”

McCarthy is still without Jody Craddock, Karl Henry, Michael Mancienne, Kevin Doyle and Adlene Guedioura. But Christophe Berra,

Matt Jarvis and David Jones are all fit after completing the final training session on Saturday morning before the Albion game was called off.

“Jarvis and Jones had had two weeks off but they were in the squad and fit to play, Berra was fit to play,” said the boss.

“Mancienne was due to see a specialist yesterday and I’ll find out if he made the appointment. Jody is having an injection and we’ll see how he is when he’s had it, and Karl’s just ticking along. He’ll be fit when he’s fit. Medial knee ligaments seem to repair really easily – I’ve had the injury myself – and you have a really good response early on, then the healing process slows down and it doesn’t seem to improve.

“Doyle is having treatment, he’s not fit. He’s got two or three little tears in it, so there’s no time limit.”

If Kites gets back playing at any kind of reasonable level of football, the medical staff at Wolves deserve a huge amount of credit.

This is basically the same injury Hargreaves has that was first ignored by Bayern and now seem irreparable at United so lets keep all fingers crossed.

Surely this is the same news as it was a few months ago, and a few months before that… I won’t be holding my breath just yet to see him tearing down our right wing…
got my fingers crossed for him…

Surely we’ll need him sooner rather than later if Jarvis is going to Everton or Liverpool like the rumours are saying……

Irrespective as we are never going to give Mujangi-Bia a go or John Gorman either, we must sign a back up winger in any case. Interestingly both Liverpool clubs are linked once again with Jarvis. If we were even considering getting rid of him or worse if the player wanted to leave both of them would have to cough up £10m minimum. I see Robbie Findlay is not coming? Massive loss with his one in three strike rate for Salt Lake City… not! In the January window we need to sign at least 4 and a centre forward should not be top of the list. We have three top quality forwards and two hardly play. A centre half, left back, winger and either central midfielder or centre forward is required. Bear in mind we have three spaces in the squad – Halford, Van Damme and Guedioura!

    Best of luck to Kites.

He has battled throughout his career to re establish himself in the big time (after being released by Spurs) – he deserves an opportunity to play in the Premiership.

Wanderingwillo – why would Wolves sell Jarvis for less than £15M? Everton can’t afford the fee and Liverpool are not exactly flush with money…

Get Jovanovic on loan from Liverpool and Kezman on a free, let them form a nice little Serbian cabal with Nenad to keep everybody happy. Get Naylor back from Cardiff, get Wheater, get Habib Beye on a free. There, I’ve just kept us up. All those years of Football Manager clearly didn’t go to waste.

Sir Billy Quiet…… I didn’t mention a fee mate… Just saying, do you really think We’ll be able to keep him here with the prospect of championship football next season… I honestly think January will show all Wolves fans exactly what the chairman wants from the club….

    1) IF wolves get a resonable bid for jarvis, would they accept it???

    2) Exactly what players are we going to sign??? Wheater has already been strongly linked, ok, decent player, but is he really going to save us from relegation?? Is he better than craddock???

We all have been shouting for a good center half for years, yet we sign a 7 million pound forward who can’t get a game… I wonder where we would have been now if we’d spent that money on a center half and a left back???

Before you all start moaning, I think Fletcher will be a good player for Wolves in a 4-4-2 formation, but do any of you think we will get 7 million for him if we were to sell him??? Doesn’t look like the best bit of business Wolves ever made….

    Wanderwillo, I agree.

You have to set out your intentions from the start, and I would of spent £5-7mill on a centre half as soon as we got promoted.

It is the glaringly obvious weakest part of the team and has been for two years now.

Sam Hypia would of been great for us and Scott Dan would of been better money spent, rather than Halford, Mianhoffer, Berra, Fletcher and even Mancienne.Instead we lost out on both. Even Curtis Davis has recently been out on loan in the Championship.

Its a mystery why McCarthy has not kicked down the door to sign a Premiership centre half.

I bet he wishes he had now!

If we don’t then we know the clubs intentions are don’t we.

I agree with all the positive things that have been said about Kightly. It would be great to see him back and firing on all cylinders. As far as our season is concerned, it is likely to be defined by the time he makes a return. It is to be hoped we can still offer him Premier League football the following season. Mick says we will be linked with all manner of players during the January window. I hope that they will be players of proven ability – and that they will match the signings West Ham hope to make. Good luck on Boxing Day lads. Happy Christmas all. UTW.

Adam Johnson cost city 11million n he’s miles better than Jarvis, Theo cost Arsenal 6 million, Ashley young 9.5 million, stuart downing 10 million, jerome thomas FREE, Where do you get 15 million from, i could see steve letting him go for 8 million TOPS, agree with the fletch bit, he’s unhappy sitting on the bench and is now 3rd choice he wants a loan move jan back to scotland, thats why we are looking for another striker, Robbie Findley chose forest over us, says a lot for our club and mick

We might as well sell off all our best players now on the basis of maybe going down?

The Chairman has underwritten the Club for the last 3 seasons, why question his commitment?

Some fans would like to see Wolves spend without regard for our income, just like Portsmouth, Hull etc etc

I would rather have a well run club than Boom and Bust.

    15) As part of the great Sir Jack selling the club for a tenner, Steve Morgan agreed to invest £30m. He has done that but you are forgetting the Sky revenue etc. We should have money to spend and our club has no money worries. It is more of a concern when we do the ground up. This needs to be done but we need to establish ourselves in the Premiership first!

Jarvo £15M – because Wolves don’t want to sell? why accept less? we are not looking to sell so any offer has got to be in the Fantasy Football proce range!

Steve Morgan is underwriting the club, check out the accounts, we are loss making on ‘day to day’ operations.

The overheads of the club are greater than the income – any investment in players (and ground) comes out of the shareholders pocket (ie Steve Morgan) unless we sell players first.

Players wages have increased massively since promotion.

The whole point of ‘doing the ground up’ is to increase revenues and that’s related to secondary income, not match day attendances.

Robbie Findley (whoever he is!!) joined Forest because they offered him a contract, Wolves did not offer a contract because WE chose not too.

HaHaHaHa – reports in the Mirror that Everton are poised to compete with Liverpool with a 4 million bid for Matty Jarvis – I think they missed a 1 in front of the 4……. Joker Wolf when you talk of fees in your little spill- that was then this is now. You quote Ashley Young at 9.5mil now Villa are quoting 20+mil.

So looks like West Ham might have a whole new team from January even our prodigal son Robbie Keane – wonder how long it will take them to gell – more importantly what are we going to do in the transfer window. TBH we don’t need forwards. LB & CB, not sure who the LB would be as looks like Michael Johnson wants to go to Leeds, Richard Dunne would be good from Villa as CB.

I see we pay all Findleys costs from the USA procrastinate on do we don’t we (like Jerome Thomas) & he promptly signs for Forest – man we are good.

Finally welcome back MK. I really hope you are all fixed up now & can once more make an impact for our great club..

Joker Wolf – Adam Johnson, Theo Wllcott, and Stuart Downing were all from championship clubs when they were sold. If you havent noticed no matter how good a player is there value usually goes down if they play for a championship club. Just look at hunt, we were willing to pay way over the odds to hull when they were a premier league team, when they were in the championship we got him for near half the cost. Im not saying your valuation of him is far off, but, if a club dont want to sell, and they are in the premiership, they can elevate the price allot. Just look at what Man utd did with Ronaldo, and that was with Ronaldo desperate to leave.

As far as the article is concerned, good luck Kites, i hope you have a positive impact in the second half of the season. As far as im concerned, you were the better winger in the championship, out of you and Jarvis, and when your back, if you end up being only as good as Jarvis, instead of returning as our best winger, it would be a frightening prospect to think how blessed we will be with kites and jarvis on the wings. Im sure he will start slowly, but in his few games last season, he got a man utd player sent off, and earned a penalty against villa. Not bad for his first 3 games back from a long term injury.

Sorry, my family are but poor Codsall folk and cannot afford crackers so I do not understand the reference. For Christmas Day fun, we go and hose down the pavement and then sit watching old people fall over on it.

Just because Kezman didn’t cut it at Chelsea, doesn’t mean he can’t do a job for us. Just because Beye got relegated, doesn’t mean he is a bad player.

I think you can blame Naylor on the seasonal plonk though. Even so – no better than any other left-back we have?

Firstly I would have been more excited if Kites was actually in training i.e. kicking a ball about and not laying on benches. I really wanted to see him in the Prem and see if he could cut it (I think he could), but don’t think we will see him this season.

Definitely agree with you NeilJam. I laughed so hard when I heard what Celtic were willing to pay for Naylor. One of the most inconsistent players to wear the old gold. At least with big George we know he is always going to be bad (and I am not one who normally has a dig at players but he is woeful). Let’s bring in someone like Richard Dunne with a bit of presence in the defence, forget strikers, a decent LB, CB and if Milijas retains a run in the team he will create.

All the best for the festivities folks
