Karl Henry eyeing an FA Cup run

Captain Karl Henry today insisted Wolves can progress in the FA Cup after being given a winnable third round tie at Doncaster.

Rovers are currently 10th in the Championship having established themselves in the second tier over the last two years under manager Sean O’Driscoll, a boyhood Wolves fan.

Doncaster have only lost one of their nine games at the Keepmoat Stadium this season and Henry believes it’s a tie to relish for both teams.

“Ties like this are always tough and tricky,” said the Wolves skipper. “Doncaster are a good footballing side, and they’ll see Wolves as a scalp.

“We’ve seen already there have been upsets in the first two rounds of the Cup this season. But we can win the game and we’ll definitely be looking to progress to the next round.

“It’s a tough tie but also a decent draw and a game we’ll be looking to win.”

Henry was part of the Wolves team that won 1-0 on their last visit to the south Yorkshire town two years ago on their way to the Championship title and would love a repeat in January.

“That was a good day,” said the midfielder.

“I remember they were on a good run at home at the time not conceding many goals.

“Sean O’Driscoll has done a really good job there. I’ve heard a lot of good things about him and they always try to play good football as well as being difficult to beat.”

Meanwhile, Henry — currently out with a tweaked medial ligament in his right knee — is hoping Wolves’ dramatic 3-2 win against Sunderland on Saturday can kickstart their season.

“It was a great win and hopefully we can keep that run going,” said the 28-year-old.

“We needed the victory — it was a massive three points and now we need to kick on from there.

“We’ve had a lot of bad luck this season and it was about time it swung our way.”
