Jody Craddock out until the new year

Wolves were this afternoon reeling from another injury blow after Jody Craddock was ruled out until the new year – as Michael Kightly faces another operation.

The 35-year-old Molineux Player of the Season faces an absence of up two months after another scan showed the damage to his hip and thigh is much worse than first feared.

Craddock had been expected to return to full training this week but, after he continued to experience discomfort, the club decided to get the injury re-scanned.

“Jody’s going to be out for quite a while — it could be six to eight weeks,” said boss Mick McCarthy.

“It’s still his hip and thigh — it’s been bothering him.

“He’s had it scanned again and there’s a tear in it.

“He’s got to have some treatment on it but it’s far worse than we thought. He won’t be fit until after Christmas.”

Craddock has already missed eight games after picking up the injury in the opening minutes of the 1-1 draw against West Ham on October 16.

McCarthy admitted it was a big blow to lose someone he described as his ‘best defender’ before he succumbed to the injury.

“It’s a big blow for us and for him as well,” he said.

Kightly is to have the same procedure he had done in Sweden on his other knee recently to relieve inflammation of his patella tendons.

“The knee he’s had done is great so he’s having the other one done,” said McCarthy. “He’s having it done on December 12.”

Better news surrounds the prospects of captain Karl Henry, who is not now expected to be out for two months as first feared.

Henry suffered medial knee ligament damage in the 2-1 defeat at Blackpool nine days ago, but was pictured out running at the end of last week.

“He’s more likely to be out for four to six weeks from when he did it as opposed to six to eight,” added McCarthy.

Dave Edwards and  Steven Mouyokolo are expected to return to training by the end of the week.
