Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has admitted he was in the worst injury crisis of his career – as he revealed he retained the full support of chairman Steve Morgan.

McCarthy faces an anxious few hours as he waits on Kevin Foley, Steven Mouyokolo and Steven Fletcher for tomorrow’s clash against Sunderland.

The manager is already without Christophe Berra through suspension and captain Karl Henry for two months with a torn medial knee ligament, and has lost Jody Craddock and David Edwards.

In addition, training has been disrupted by the absence of Jelle van Damme and Stephen Ward, whose other halves have been in labour.

Van Damme has flown back from Belgium and is in the 18-man squad.

Foley has damaged his knee in training and is a major doubt, along with Berra’s replacement Mouyokolo, who has been suffering back spasms and flew to Paris this week to try to get the problems solved.

McCarthy said: “Ronald Zubar is in the squad and we’ve got one of the cleaners and the chef in the squad the way it’s going, having lost so many players.

“I told Kevin Foley at the start of the week that he was in the team, he would be my captain and then within five minutes, he opened his knee up.

“Steven Mouyokolo has hurt his back and he’s a real doubt. Steven Fletcher has been poorly and Dave Edwards is still missing.

“But I’m sure come tomorrow, I’ll have a team firing on all cylinders.

“Dave and Jody will return to training next week.”

McCarthy also revealed Morgan remains firmly behind him, despite the run of nine defeats in 11 games.

The manager said: “I’ve had fabulous support from Steve and Jez, support hasn’t been a problem.

“Steve’s great and positive and supportive – the same as Jez, the atmosphere is great around the place.

“It’s still nice to know that people recognise that I’m still a good manager and the club is run well. I get great support and that means a lot, it really does.

“But I don’t listen to radio shows or phone-ins.”

McCarthy added any move for trialist Mamadou Bagayoko was on ice.

The Wolves boss said: “He’s on the bench for Nice tomorrow.”
