Mick McCarthy needs Wolves fans
Thursday 25th November 2010, 10:59AM GMT.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has admitted he and the team need the support of the Molineux masses ‘more than ever.’
McCarthy’s side host Sunderland on Saturday in what the manager has deemed a ‘must-win’ game after nine defeats in 11.
And the Wolves chief cannot underestimate the role of the fans in a game that could prove vital for him and the team.
He said: “The fans are vital to the club, but in times of trouble and strife it’s support that we need more than ever – whether it be a player, the team or whoever.
“It needs that arm around us saying ‘come on lads, we’ll all get behind you together.’
“If they don’t, it makes life increasingly difficult. We’ve got to get together and hopefully out of adversity comes strength and we win.
“If we do, brilliant, if we don’t, the consequences will be there.
“The fans might boo, but I’m not looking beyond thinking we’re going to win.”
Fans showed their frustration at half-time of the 2-1 defeat at Blackpool last week, chanting ‘what a load of rubbish.’
McCarthy admitted he is more concerned with getting the victory than appealing for patience.
He said: “Just as they expect us to give everything every week, I expect them to give everything to support us every week.
“If it doesn’t go right then boo us off, fine, I’m cool with that.”
McCarthy believes he can’t afford to plan for any negative response.
He said: “If that happens I don’t concern myself with what’s happened before, I can only deal with what’s going on in front of me.
“Having lost Christophe Berra and Karl Henry, I’ll get a team together and try to win this game against a good Sunderland side that have just won at Chelsea.”
McCarthy is hoping the fans stick with him and remain patient.
He said: “I’d require, me as a manager and the team, for that all the time.
“There’s one thing about my team that nobody can ever question and that’s the effort and the workload they put in. So I expect we get good support and we do.
“We’ve played well, our performances have deserved more. And we have to maintain that. If we do then we’ve every chance of beating Sunderland.
“If we don’t, there’s every chance we’ll get punished.”

I expect the fans to give their support on Sat – for as long as we stay in the game and try to win.
However, after 9 defeats in 11, only a victory is good enough. Otherwise the fans will boo the team off no doubt about it.
Hopefully, we can win and put together a run or I think we’ll struggle to stay up. We had a cushion of 5 points last year but we’re already 5 points adrift in a stronger league. We have to improve fast otherwise changes in management and players is required.

Do the honourable thing and resign and you will go with our fond memories of what you achieved. You have reached your limit. This is shown by your poor signings and favouritism towards players who work hard but lack the required quality and cost us goals. You have also shown how tactically poor you are by costing us equalisers or losing us games with bad substiutions, such as interfering with the back 4 v Newcastle and Zubar, not up to speed, consequently conceded the free-kick that led to the goal. You didn’t learn from this, doing similar things at Fulham and Spurs.

The fans at Molineux will be willing the lads on to win, that’s for sure. UTW.

And what do we think that team will be? Yes, there are injuries, but a good manager selects 25 players to deal with these issues. Instead it will no doubt be: Hahnemann, Foley, Stearman, Moyokolo, Elokobi, Hunt, Mancienne, Milijas, Jones, Jarvis, Doyle. Subs: Ebanks-Blake, Fletcher, Bent, Ward, Van Damme, Davis & Hennessey. An awful defence that won’t cope with Zenden, Richardson, Bent, Welbeck and Gyan (if he’s fit).

ole mick is right as supporters we need to get behind the team on saturday, negative fans make a negative atmosphere and a negative team. but as the man says, “Just as they expect us to give everything every week, I expect them to give everything to support us every week.
“If it doesn’t go right then boo us off, fine, I’m cool with that.”
i for one wont boo the team or manager regardless of the result, but if we get behind the team and get the atmosphere rocking like we used to then we can win this.
We the fans are the twelve man and the team really needs us, Come On You Wolves

Mick, you must remember that to get the fans behind you, you need to give the fans what they require and that is a team comprising of players for their rightful positions, tactics that play to our strengths, substitutions made as soon as possible and not on 85 minutes when we are possibly 2 goals down, having little chance of getting anything from the game AND finally having a ‘plan B’ for when things go wrong – This is something which has been very notice when things go wrong, now admit it Mick?
Also, more respect for the fans and their comments, good or bad, would not go amiss. Your jibes at fans for voicing their opinions will gain you no respect whatsoever, only more antagonism and shouts of ‘McCarthy out!’
You are living on a knifes edge anyway and who knows bar Steve Morgan how long you have left as Wolves manager BUT ‘most’ Wolves fans will give you and the team the support you need but it is a 2 way thing not just Mick McCarthy’s way!
IF you can turn things around then recent results will be forgotten for a time at least BUT continue as you are and…. well we can all prophecise about the outcome!

A manager who starts pulling out this “you are our 12th man, we need you now more than ever” spiel is a) well aware that they are on short time and b) trying to deflect a little blame elsewhere – “you don’t cheer, you just boo, it’s partially your fault.” So give us something worth cheering, not half a dozen reasons to boo with every game.

I’ll be there supporting whoever is wearing the gold shirt, they’ll be out there because MM puts them out there, so has I’ve seen with my own eyes some ain’t good enough it’s hardly there fault, they don’t pick themselves. Funny how he was calling us “nuggets” not so long ago, but now, when his job is on the line and he knows it, he wants us all to be best buddies and have a big love-in.
What you hear from the stands Mick is the truth. Fans are not stupid, but you are if you think they’ll blindly happy clap while the club sinks further into the mire.
Do the right thing, pick the best players for the job and if you can’t manage that then please, walk away now with integrity – while you still have some.

Those of you lucky enough to be there on sat, please please get behind Mick and the boys, the last thing the team needs to hear coming down from the stands is negative garbage, be vocal in a positive way, the team is playing relatively well creating lots of chances, lets hope sat is the day we start converting these and give sunderland a good walloping, UP THE WOLVES AND SUPER MICK

Try playing one of your summer signings then!! Notably Van Damme, he doesn’t become “not up to the job” overnight, I suspect there’s more to this then meets the eye. Anyway what triggered the “I want to go back to Anderlecht saga”? Fletcher isn’t as good as we thought either, despite being played out of position so often he should still have a strikers eye for goal, alas this doesn’t seem to be the case. Hunt, having just come back from injury should be raring to go but even his performances have been lacking of late. Doyle I’d play as an attacking midfielder, he’s got the pace and stamina to run all day and would be good at linking play between the midfield and the strikers plus might weigh in with a few goals.

“Effort and workload.” Mick, some of the best players have also been some of the laziest, but they have won games with a flash of brilliance. Huffing and puffing isn’t going to get you very far.

Good post Jake (#3)
I’ll be there giving all my support to both the team AND the manager. The best way out of this mess is to pull together and give Mick a bit of support in appreciation of what he has done for us over the last 4 years.
A divided stadium on Saturday will likely see us lose. Divided fans over the season will get us relegated. SUPPORT YOUR TEAM.
Alot of fans think the easy way out is to sack Mick and bring in a new saviour – who exactly is that going to be??? When we are struggling in a few months time with Pardew/Dowie/Wilkins/Megson/Southgate/Poyet (pick your favourite!) in charge what then??? Downward spiral for me if we change managers now.

‘The fans are vital to the club’? Im afraid i dont believe that for one minute, ive been a ‘LOYAL’ supporter for 52yrs or so, but ive never seen or been shown much ‘LOYALTY’ in return over the years. As long as you pay you money (usually up front) the likes of Morgan/Moxey and Co couldnt give a fiddlers elbow. If you dont buy or go they assume someone else will buy your seat. The PL is and always been about ‘MONEY’? So how long will Steve Morgan/Jez Moxey and Co, give MM before he sacks him? As Morgan isn’t interested in whether the ‘fans back their team’every match they play ( which they always DO ), he’s only interested in ££££££s ,being in the PL is the be all and end all in football today, has thats were the ‘BIG MONEY’ is, there is no way SM will accept us being anywhere other than the PL. Otherwise all his ‘BIG’ dreams and money-making ideas will go out the window? He’s a businessman first. He hears Mick ‘talk the talk’ but lets face it, it isn’t working anymore with the ‘fans’ or on the pitch either, he’s making panic decisions moving Foley after the first goal, and putting Mancienne there? Then taking Foley off, that was the sign of a panic stricken manager. Who must know his ‘JOB’ is well and truly on the line. But one thing you can rely on Mick come 3pm Saturday 26,000+ Wolves fans WILL be right behind their TEAM as usual, but YOU need to get it sorted ‘SOON VERY SOON’ and it would help by playing players in their ‘proper positions’ which YOU paid lots of money for them to play in? I hope that we win at the weekend and that we turn it around. I just worry because I don’t see any managers out there at the moment that I would feel confident in givng the job to. I think Mick can be very negative with tactics and chops and changes. Maybe we need to look abroad because make no mistake if we lose on Saturday Mick is a gonna. I think he knows that because of his comments in the press this week.

One thing which would ensure excellent support from all supporters, as we have seen at times this season would be not to let a goal in before some people have even sat down.
If we keep a goal out for 30mins and get a foothold into the game the support will be there. As supporters we have no control over the silly mistakes which put us on the back foot or out of a game before it even starts. This is down to the players to stay focused and the Manager to send out the right team in the right frame of mind.
I for one wish Mick would stay out of the papers and keep his head down and his thoughts on how to get the 3 points we desperatly need. If we are 1-0 down after 5 mins on Sat I for one will find it very hard to sing at the top of my voice.
Mick you have 2 games to save your job, I wish you the best of luck.

Good news that Zubes played 67mins and came thro unscathed and felt he could have played longer. Plus he said he played at CH which he’s played alot in that position, isn’t that were Wolves bought him to ‘PLAY’ anyway?. Why dont we start him there v Sund’ld and see how it goes,if it looks like its not working we have other CH’s on the bench. At least Zubes has got pace to burn unlike our other CH’s who all seem very one paced? I also feel the time is right to bring Hennessey back into the team, USA as been outstanding since he came in for a very shaky WH, been now the tables seem to be turning, it USA who’s making costly errors and bad posioning on his near-post costing us goals, dropping crosses, slow coming off his line, bad kicking? Time for a few changes now Mick give other players a go it just might change the LUCK? and play Fletcher as a CF , play Doyle off him, at least Fletcher knows were the net is, has does SEB,give them a fair chance Mick in the positions YOU bought these players to PLAY-IN. It may just ‘SAVE YOUR JOB TOO’ UTW:

MM need not fear that most fans will support their team no matter how incompetant they feel the Manager is. He would do well to do a couple of things that might endear him to the fans:
1. Be more consistent in team selections.
2. Face up to the fact that too many of the squad are not cutting it at this level and swing the axe.
3. In January make an earnest effort to bring in some quality loan players. I am reading that Daniel Sturridge might be available. Given the “special” relationship we seem to have for Mancienne could we not bring him in? Sturridge seems to hit the net which is more than can be said for our so called strikers.
In the meantime, we are stuck with what we have – the biggest thing MM can do right now is serve up three points on Saturday -NO MESSING!!!

36) WAGT. Think your logic is a bit twisted.
Sure, Graham Turner deserves a special place in our hearts and the Wolves’ Hall of Fame. He helped save this club and brought together a very exciting team which we all enjoyed, but I told my kids at the time, enjoy it, ‘cos it doesn’t last forever. Remember he couldn’t get us out of the (now) Championship, like a string of others that followed. To rank alongside Bill McGarry and John Barnwell (nobody’ll compete with Stan Cullis methinks) he has to have had success at a higher level. Dave Jones did and so has our current manager. The board never backed Dave Jones, who continues to impress…. and the MM story ? It isn’t complete yet, but, I think we’re about to see just how good, or otherwise, the man is.

I can’t believe that’s there’s ever a valid reason to boo your team. It doesn’t help the players or management. Why would a supporter want to make any member of their team feel bad about themselves? I think it’s simply a means of making the “Booer” feel better about himself. And that’s plain selfish.
In short:
Supporters support.
Booing can destroy confidence and therefore doesn’t help.
