David Jones today admitted Wolves need a result "whatever it takes" on Saturday against Sunderland.

Manager Mick McCarthy said yesterday the visit of his former club is now a 'must-win' and Jones believes the depth of Wolves' plight — nine defeats in 11 games — means performances have become secondary.

"I think our focus now has switched to just getting a result, especially after the weekend we've just had," said Jones.

"We really thought we could get a win at Blackpool so now we've got to get a result whatever it takes.

"We need to make sure we all play to the best of our ability and really go for it while also cutting out the mistakes and putting the ball in the back of the net.

"It's not good enough to play well and create chances, we've got to put them away and expect more of ourselves. I'm asking those kind of questions of myself and I'm sure all the other lads are as well.

"We're all itching to put things right on Saturday."

Jones was one of the players who wasted shooting chances in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Blackpool and he admits the players have to master performing under extreme pressure.

"When things aren't going well you've got to make it happen in terms of getting a result," he said.

"That's when you need people to score a goal out of nothing or make a chance count.

"On Saturday I had two opportunities when I should have done better with shots from the edge of the box.

"They're the type of moments when I expect better from myself and when things aren't going for you, that's when you have to make the opportunities count because I know I can score from the edge of the box.

"I was disappointed with that and I'm working hard in training to put it right."

Wolves will have to turn things around without their inspirational captain Karl Henry and Jones admitted the skipper will be hugely missed.

"I think we miss Henry whether we win, lose or draw," said Jones.

"He's a big player for us.

"Someone has got to fill his shoes and do the job he does for the team but we've got good strength in depth to cope with injuries."
