Mick McCarthy feels heat at Wolves

Monday 22nd November 2010, 12:05PM GMT.

Manager Mick McCarthy has admitted Wolves now face a “huge fight” to beat the drop after confessing the team’s slump is putting pressure on him.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Blackpool was Wolves’ ninth in 11 games and chairman Steve Morgan will have been given the lowdown from the regulars after sitting with the fans as a guest of Steve Bull.

But McCarthy’s future is not on the agenda and the board remain convinced he will turn the current run around.

He said: “It’s a huge fight. It was before Saturday. That result made it even harder. All managers know in football, it’s about getting results.

“If you’re not getting results the pressure mounts. I don’t sit and worry about that, though.

“I worry about what we can do to make sure we start getting some points.”

As if they haven’t got enough to concern them, Wolves are also casting anxious eyes over the injury to captain Karl Henry.

The captain, who was linked with Everton yesterday, came off after an hour and limped away from Bloomfield Road with what appeared to be an injury to his right knee.

And they will have to do without Christophe Berra for Saturday’s home clash with Sunderland, as the Scot is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season.

McCarthy insists hard work is the only answer to their problems.

He said: “All we can do to rectify it is carry on working down the training ground. It can become doom and gloom very quickly but we have to make sure that doesn’t happen.

“We’ve been chasing games and there’s a different complexion on it when you go behind so early.”

McCarthy also revealed he took Kevin Foley off after the full-back failed to recover from his mistake for Luke Varney’s opener.

The Wolves boss said: “Kevin Foley’s had a great season. But he was having a tough time.

“We needed to get back in the game so I put Nenad Milijas on.”

McCarthy is hoping Kevin Doyle’s first Premier League strike of the season can spark a flurry of goals.

He said: “Let’s hope it starts a little spree for Doyle.”

It’s funny how injuries are the only way to force through much needed changes to a team.

Henry is no where near good enough and nor is Berra.

Berra was shocking against Blackpool and Henry has been shocking since he’s come back from his red cards. Both players needed dropping. Mick, DON’T you DARE bring back Stephen Ward. Elokobi was the only bright spark in an otherwise dire back 4. Even USA is struggling now, maybe he has lost all confidence in his defence?

4-4-2 with fletcher playing along side doyle please.

WHY WASNT HE PLAYING ANYWAY YOU IDIOT!?

Milijas has been our most creative player for weeks. So you drop him for Dave jones?? A player who wont sign a new deal at the club and who has been dire all season apart from the goal against stoke.

I am afraid the board is wrong then, he should feel the heat, he has done wonders for the club and no one should take that away from him, but this season as last he continues to make strange decisions, and the most blatent was to change and play the team he did against Blackpool, the worst home record in the league.
Sell Henry to whoever, and “wrap you arms round” Berra, he brings him back for a game then gets a yellow, now another change for next week!
USA has played very well, but as I said a few weeks ago, he has gone off the boil, similar to his time at Reading & especially since he said he wanted to leave,
Time to give Hennesey a opportunity.
Another different team for next week again, it cannot and should not go on.

Like it or not M M is a good manager to have if you don’t have much of a transfer kitty. He is as good as a manager as Dave Jones was. The transfer money he has spent on fletcher and hunt alone he should be sacked for,if we were relegated i don,t think any clubs will be knocking our door down to double what we paid for fletcher or doyle as we did.As for buying stephen hunt, crocked for the money we did is unbelievable. That’s like some prem team coming in and offering us millions for kightley. There is more to this slump than we realise and so M M should be relieve of his duties as soon as possible.

“Kevin Foley’s had a great season”… Well, what about ball-watching for Downing’s goal for Villa and conceding a stupid penalty v WestHam? I’ll admit he has had good matches, the problem is that he and the others at the back consistently make fatal errors. When you add the lack of quality frequently shown up front and some bad luck, you have the recipe for relegation. Why sign Fletcher when the midfield isn’t good enough to play 4-4-2? I am not convinced that changing the manager is the right thing to do right now, however, MM certainly tests both the conviction and the patience of the fans with some of his actions, e.g. dropping Milijas on Saturday. Does he know what his best team is?

Agree that a change of goalie is needed.

Agree that Milijas is better than Jones.

Agree that we need to play another striker, but wonder if Doyle should still be an automatic selection?

The back four needs sorting out and the sooner Craddock and Zubar return the better. We are missing Craddock’s attacking threat on corners and Zubars power and pace breaking forward.

Two things that jump out from that article.

Firstly, the suggestion that the manager is not on the agenda for the board to discuss. Well if he isn’t he should be. If a manager at Redrow was building houses to a poor qaulity and not to time, leading to poor customer feedback then the manager’s performance would be assessed and monitored. If there was no improvement in performance then the door would be shown. Although its sometimes difficult to seprate the heart from the head in football, its a business at the end of day. What I would like every Wolves fan to answer is what has MM demonstrated over the last two seasons to show that he can not just turn things around to survive the drop again, but actually take the club forward in the same way as say Owen Coyle at Bolton.
Secondly, the statement from MM insisting that hard work is the only answer to Wolves problems. This says it all. I agree that all teams must work hard on the training ground and on the pitch but there is so much more. Its also about choosing the best formation for a match and your best players in their strongest positions. Its about choosing players for their quality and not just their workrate. Its also about buying players who will improve the first team and not just the squad.
If, as Steve Morgan claims, he is a ‘football’ man, then start showing somethimg to the fans who pay for a large part of the running costs of the club. Do you really want to run the risk of being relegated just so that we might bounce back again. I for one would rather get in a manager who can sort out the playing side and from that the ground redevelopment and everything else will flow. Wolves can be a solid Premiership club but i just can’t see it happening with MM as manager.

Hard work is not just the answer. Picking your best 11, putting round pegs in round holes, and concentrating for the first and last five minutes are far more important – just ask Blackpool!!!

I’ve always been a Mick supporter, but where’s the motivation coming from? We should have been up for beating Blackpool from the first second of the game. Our motivation this season appears to be Mick sticking two fingers up and saying “b*****ks” to everyone. We need more than that right now, and I don’t think he can provide it. Someone else – not necessarily Martin O’Neill, because he’s clearly waiting for a bigger job to come his way, but someone like him with better man-management skills and a more effective knowledge of picking a balanced team – needs to come in, and before it’s too late.
We don’t want to be a yo-yo club – after all, it took us five seasons to get back to the Prem. Now we need two wins just to overtake Wigan, and it’s not even the end of November.

Lets not have organisms because our spare part forward has at last scored a goal. There is something wrong with a forward who is out scored by a full back halfway through the season.

He looks like a man who want out? I think its time Hennessey was given another run of games, although playing in front of our defence at the moment isn’t ideal for either gk? As for MM it says it all above ”the manager’s future in NOT ON THE AGENDA’ and he’s got the backing of the board, end of story then. As people on here know i like Karl Henry, but i have to admit since his red card at Wigan, he’s another player who’s lost his edge,i wish he would ignore other idiots like Murphy etc and get back to playing his ‘OWN’ game. But i fear the worsed at this moment in time, i hope/pray we will turn it around. But i have my doubts with MM/TC in charge, ”IMO” he seems to panic lately like the farce of moving Foley after the goal? Putting Mancienne at RB,it smacks of a manager who’s losing/lost it? So how come he didnt move Hanhemann after he ‘dropped’ the ball for the second goal, or is he going to move players about when they’ve made a ‘MISTAKE’ every time from now on? Steve Morgan is in a very difficult position, his loyalty must be with McCarthy because he delivered Prem Football and then kept us up.

These would have been the two targets set by the board for the manager.

This seasons target would also be to keep us up.

Morgan will certainly have discussed the position with McCarthy and at the moment remains loyal to the man that has delivered in the past.

The manager’s position should not be discussed by the board because the board will already have a number of potential candidates should the need to replace the manager arise. As to whether or not Wolves need to replace the manager, if you defend like a championship side, attack like a championship side and have a championship class manager then there is every likelihood that you are heading for the championship. Don’t think that things will turn around because the press say you are playing well or becuase the team are working hard. They won’t. Wolves need major surgery if they are to stay in the Prem and hanging around to see what happens in the next match is not good enough. I have read post after post asking why Milijas did not start on Saturday. Its a good question that MM obviously does not want to answer. I am increasingly baffled by MM’s thinking – we needed points on Saturday and should have gone after the win. Instead, we played a defensive lineup and dropped Milijas. I do not see how you help a creative player like him bed in and develop some consistency with a “drop him, play him” approach.

Having seen Hunt play a number of times now, I am increasingly concerned that he is not the Messiah everyone thought he would be. Is he really fit? He looks a shadow of the player that played elsewhere.

After Blackpool scored we had more of the play but most of the chances we created were marginal – we have no cutting edge in the final third. The statistics prove it. Eleven games in and Doyle now has one goal – simply not good enough at this level.

Yes he got us promoted and yes he’s managed to keep us up but i feel we are destined to hover over the relegation zone for as long as we stay in the Premier League with Mic in charge.

We have not improved on last years team/performance/postion. He will not take a gamble on a player EVER!!! Karl Henry should be played the centre of defence (as a gamble) with with Zubar. That frees up the midfield allowing Doyle to drop back and become the attacking/ball winning supertalent he is, bursting forward and then holding up play, simples.

The rest is simple too.. SEB and Fletch up front. If things go boobs skywards then Fletcher can drop into midfield, leaving either SEB or Doyle up front. Come on Mic have a punt you’ve got the players use them.

Come on Mr.Morgan get your finger out and prove that you really are Wolves. After watching woeful Wolves at Blackpool it should tell you that we aren`t good enough, that McCarthy isn`t the man for the job any longer. His choice of players and his tactics alone are what have put us in the position we are in.From Saturday it is clear that we need a Keeper, the two we have aren`t up to standard,Hennessey in the future ,maybe,The Yank has lost confidence so isn`t one for the fight.Berra and Henry are not good enough and to drop Milijas for Jones well, that is just too stupid for words. The left back position needs to be sorted quickly and we need forwards who can score, but to do that they need service.McCarthy does not have the ability to sort out the problem so come on Mr.Morgan show the fans you mean business.

    HARDWORK IS THE ANSWER ?

NO, Mick WRONG again… finishing you chances and conceeding LESS than the oposition is THE ANSWER !

Something OUR team under his managment hasnt done well since coming to the premiership ! FACT !!!

Man Ure, play poor and win… chasing title.

Wolves, play ok and loose… 5 points adrift.

    ANOTHER BIG FACT !!!!!!!!

USA – 37, and is too busy planing to move back to the states…. dont blame him.

Van Damme – soon as he got here, he knew he´d made a mistake, will be gone in Jan.

Moukolo – Cant even spell his name, thats how much impact he´s had.

Fletcher – top goal scorer playing as a right midfielder most of the time.

Henry – Captian, who lost his head and since then the team has struggled.

Zubar – ???? did he break both legs ????

Guediora – Class, but didnt see his best cos wasnt one of Micks FAVOURITES, then broke leg.

Hunt – signed him knowing it would be half season gone for him to make an impact.

Craddock – best defender but how old ?

Ward – cost us more points than anyone, but Mick loves him cos he tries… striker at left back ?

Foley – finally back at R.B not midfield……

Seb – the guy hits some of his old form what got us here in the first place then DROPPED.

Berra – thinks he´s playing rugby, another ban

Mancienne – Chelsea and England say c.b…. So mick puts him in midfield.

DO I NEED TO GO ON ???????

    Yes i do….

Milijas – Clearly is the only playmaker at the club who looks PREMIERSHIP, looks like he can score and has more vision than the rest put 2gether, yet HE´S DROPPED FOR BLACKPOOL !

Doyle – yes a class player… but is clearly frustrated being here at the moment off to Arsenal in Jan me´s thinks.

Jarvis – Best winger we have had for years yet still we dont seem to be one the end of his countless good balls into the box.

This is my honest assesment of the team, and with 18 MILLION spent, sitting 5 points adrift SHOULD ONLY MEAN ONE THING…….

…… A new manager, new coaches and new signings in January.

But we will end up with a new ground, lost all our best players with Mick in charge and pressure to win the championship again….

    …. Morgan, u call that progress ?

We’ve had some misfortune this season but the way that the management and players have reacted to it is what has caused this problem.

Tackling: The media furore over our alleged tactics bordered on farcical. However, the fact that the majority of our spokespeople kept referring to it, followed by the ludicrous challenge by none other than the club captain, ensured that this would remain the focus for a while longer. Henry’s still banging on about it when the majority of the press has moved on.

This detracted from the real issues such as lack of clean sheets or MM’s tactics to defend leads/draws with an error prone back four rather than maintaining a more positive approach.

Injuries and not choosing form players: Who would have thought that injuries to the likes of Craddock, Zubar and Guedioura would have such an impact? MM has signed 14 defenders (by my count) in his 4 1/2 years, yet we miss the 35 year-old who was already here at the time. Why hasn’t Mancienne been tried at centre-half?

SEB scored two in two and was dropped after a couple of blanks. Jones was recalled after several games out in a key fixture (Blackpool) whilst we also changed formation, to no avail. Hunt is clearly taking time to regain full fitness – yet he can start after being away on international duty yet this is a good enough reason to start with arguably our “form” player, Milijas, on the bench. Same argument for Doyle starting vs. Fletcher or Ebanks-Blake.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I have friends who support the Republic of Ireland and they were glad when he went, and his Premier record with Sunderland was truly terrible. I am now looking for Wolves to replace Mick because, with a team playing better football than last year, we have lost NINE out of the last ELEVEN. That is relegation form. Last year we were the newbies finding our feet, so going on bad runs was expected of us. But this season? No excuses. We’re supposed to be a season older and a season wiser, but we haven’t kept a single clean sheet all season and we still don’t know our best back four after two seasons – in fact, we don’t even know what our best eleven is after two seasons!
I’m not making comparisons with the 1960′s because that would be stupid and futile, but Ronnie Allen was replaced with Bill McGarry – not because Allen was disliked, but because he’d taken us as far as he could. It’s exactly the same scenario today.

Unfortunately as you and the board apparently have every confidence in him there is little chance of that happening. Daft thing is we have some good players but for some reason MM prefers to fit his favourite square pins into round holes. All the rest has been said over the last few weeks by the fans with their astute comments.

    Dear Sir billy quiet,
    Are you a wolves fan?
I ask this as in recent months you have put out nothing but negativity.
You obviously think that saying nice things is being “positive”,I am afraid you are terribly wrong.
If I was MORGAN and had invested 30million,I would be concerned! As for mick getting us promoted,Yes we all are aware of this, does this mean we should allow him to take the club down?
Jose was got rid for winning titles!!
Management is a difficult role and things can be up one minute and down the next which is acceptable, but in MICKS case he as brought this all on his self.
If you read some of the messages on here you will begin to realise how mick as created his own downfall.
Just for you I will reiterate a few points.as mentioned below as why MICK as to go,but go with a big thank and a rose.
1)constantly buys players for certain positions and then plays them in different positions.
2)Takes FOLEY off for a mistake, yet WARD as been run rings round in atleast 5-6 games and as cost us not only goals but GAMES,yet he continues to be in the side.
3)Plays his favourites without any doubt.
4)Hunt who is well off the pace as he as only just returned from injury and at average as looked poor yet mick keeps starting him.On the other hand MOYOKOLO is not being given a chance as he was injured and is not sharp enough for the 1st team.Yet against MAN UNITED in the cup he showed potential and as been injury free twice as long has HUNT.
5)Milijias as been very good in recent games, hardly loses the ball, trys always to play a forward pass, and is even working harder, shooting and scoring yet MICK brings in JONES who had not played for a few games and decides not to play MILIJIAS who had been our better performer against the bigger clubs!
6)How many times as it been allowed were,Henry gets the ball and kicks it back to USA who boots it up in the air to DOYLE who is on his own and in return loses the ball?Too many times.
7)Why is it MICK as persisted with the same problem areas and not acted,Scoring yet we continue with DOYLE,when he had not scored and both SEB and Fletcher have scored in limited play time.
8)Same can be said of the defence we CONCEDE some very poor goals yet mick picks the same players, the BERRAS(WHO AS BEEN OK)STEARMAN,WARD(BOTH OF WHOM HAVE COST US GAMES).
9)There are other teams in the premier league that are winning and our bringing younger players in,we have 2-3 players who could be given a serious chance and would do no less than what we have.

The list can go on,MICK is the following gained from his era at wolves.
COWARD..STUBBORN..CONTRADICTOR..NEGATIVE…FEARFULL…FAVOURS HIS FAVOURITES…DEFENSIVE..NO BELIEF..DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO TRY NEW…MANY MORE THINGS CAN BE SAID.
The premiership is a weaker league than it was a few years ago,it is a league that you can develop in and realistically catch up with some teams,Overall it is a golden oppurtunity to remain in the league and get stronger every year,Yet we are going the opposite way having spent more than half the teams.!
As for MORGAN sticking with mick as you say,why should he,MICK gets paid for being WOLVES manager,MICK is not doing it for nothing,The only people that really matter are the WOLVES fans why?Because it is the WOLVES fans that put MONEY into the club!!WOLVES fans dont get paid!!Morgan as also to take consideration of the other staff at the club, who work hard and get a years salary to that of MICK’S one month. So when we go down they will be the first one’s effected!!Mick and his croonies like doyle will leave for even better pays and if not we will have to pay more to keep them,as DOYLE may decide I dont want to play in the championship!!!Yet if being brutally honest his lack of goals will cost us our premiership place, yet he wins either way. There are many other examples like such, the one message being load and clear,KEEP THE FANS AS THEY ARE THE REAL FOUNDATION OF THE CLUB AND PROBABLY THE ONLY FOUNDATION OF THE CLUB,and even that is starting to ROCK due to MICK.

    Around about this time last season we were gifting points to Wigan, Portsmouth, Hull and all of the other pub sides in the Prem. Since then we have invested the thick end of £20,000,000 after similar investment the previous year. Our defence gets more or less what it deserves every week, we “play well” but get nothing, why? Perhaps it’s because we have little pattern to our play and no recognisable style nor formation. At about this time last season we started our recovery playing a regular 4:5:1. Not pretty to watch but effectively resulted in us staying up. The best teams in the Premiership tend to play 4:5:1, regularly playing attractive and rewarding football. We have two problems;
1/ We have wasted millions on poor transfers.
2/ We have no consistency of approach.

This team does not have the ability to maintain a mid-table finish season in/out and any of you who think thats possible at the moment are deluded. I have been suspicious of Morgan from the beginning.A Liverpool fan ,he is doing very nicely at the minute.Inheriting a debt free club,by my estimation he has not had to spend a penny of the £30,000,000 Sir Jack insisted on being injected into the club. MM was just the type of manager he wanted, good at championship level with the ability to get a club promoted and at the same time spending a moderate amount of money. We are one of the lowest payers in the division,so is it any surprise we are struggling?

Indeed I am a Wolves Fan – Home and Away since 1968.

I have seen managers come. Through all those changes (following the demise of Bill McGarry) this club has not improved its playing position.

Mick McCarthy is the current incumbent attempting to get us back to where we all want to be (top half of the Prem), he deserves our support.

My view is simple – stability will bring its reward. Going down is not a disaster so long as we continue to strengthen we will come back again (Albion/Birmingham).

We should have stuck with Dave Jones (and backed him) but we went for change, hence another 5 years wasted.

Right! I know Saturday was not good and I dont know what the answer is but (and I was there) the attitude of some of the fans was to say the least disgusting and embarrasing.

I always thought that to support a team you have to support through thick and thin and some fans did not. I know it is frustrating to watch especially when we went down 1.0 so early on in the game but those so called fans should have got behind the lads not shout abuse and boo and sing whata load of rubbish. How did you expect them to turn it around when all they can hear is negative chanting and before anyone says anything I am aware that they get paid alot of money for doing what they do, but at the end of the day how would you like it if your bosses and colleagues came behind you and did the same, because you weren’t doing what you should or should not be doing.

We have to support the lads and give them encouragement not discouragement. I am convinced we can turn this around but we can’t if they have not got our support. No matter what, they need to hear us urging them on.

I am sorry if this offends some of you but I have followed Wolves for a very long time and there is no way I would do what was done on Saturday no matter how frustrated I was I would always get behind the lads.

Last season he purchased Greg Halford and Stefan Maerhofer for nearly 4 million pounds, then had the pitch narrowed obviously with the idea of playing like Stoke,Halford is now back in the division he belongs and maerhofer is in the german 2nd division, did it work, definately not. Then he plays 442 and does not realise Karl Henry cannot play in this formation until he is totally outplayed against Birmingham by Lee Bowyer, then he changes to 451 and we do ok without scoring enough goals. This season we widen the pitch and Matt Jarvis is a different player on the left, but we are again playing 442 against Bolton and again Karl Henry is outplayed, this time by Muamba.442 is an attacking formation but he has to pick the right players, and ok Henry is injured now,i just hope he hasn’t got a brother.

Firstly, 63, I am sorry to hear that Henry is out. He is an immense player on his day and it is sad that he seems to have taken the criticism so to heart and stopped tackling.

No 36, Lisa C- Sunderland fans, who are generally quite knowledgeable about their football, warned us that this would happen with MM. This was as long ago as the night Julio Arca (?sp) scored against us in a night match. We were still happy with MM’s appointment, but their comments that he lacks tactical knowledge and is stubborn and has his favourites ring true more now than ever before.

Initially, I liked MM for his common sense approach and his forthright opinions. Now I just cringe when the commentators ask him questions in a manner that slights him. He is a PR nightmare and no more so than when he keeps calling fans nuggets.

I was of the view when he were promoted against QPR that we should have paid him off then or promoted him out of the way. I have not altered from this belief. I was astounded that he kept us up last year and ate humble pie.

Steve Morgan ( and his heavies- and I don’t mean Bully and Thommo!!!)was sat just across from us on Saturday and witnessed first hand the fans fighting amongst themselves and calling for MM’s head. That is never a good sign.It must be a sign that Morgan cannot ignore. He must have sat there for a reason and I would be icredibly surprised if MM is manager on Saturday or if he was not in some way mentioned as having a limited amount of time at the helm.

Everyone on here has already stated that it is the tactics, the stubborness, the continually playing players out of position.

It really hit home to me last week when I read in a review ‘ Fletcher, a striker, who Mick McCarthy is currently playing in midfield.’ You could make this comment about numerous players being played out of position.

Morgan is a businessman. He cannot afford to up the stadium capacity and see it half empty. He also knows that the recession is still affecting attendances and possibly will for some time yet. He cannot afford for Wolves to be relegated and not get the income from ticket sales.

Time to go MM and this time take Connor with you. Time for a fresh slate.

I would like to see Martin O’ Neil and have said this for years. People can say what has he done at Villa or Celtic, but he has won them silverware. Likewise he had an impressive reign at both Reading and Leicester.

We are wolves, we are not going to compete at the very highest of levels for maybe a decade, it takes planning that can’t be rushed.

I think we should be able to hold our own around the midtable area with the right players ( who I think we have if only we could play them appropriately,)backing from the Board, the correct manager and the support of the fans.

It is expensive attending matches. Our family of 4( all home and away ST’s) made a round trip of 450 miles to go to Blackpool.Quite a few fans missed kick off becuase of the bizarre stewarding there.

Pleased to note that Blackburn have reduced their ticket prices down to £25- that’s £9 less than last year- albeit it is £25 for 16 year olds :(

Let’s hope we can riase the roof against Sunderland, but I fear the worst.

Yes as a business man he will have made these investments through his group of companies BUT he has taken a financial risk on Wolves whether it is £1M or £30M he has put his money in.

Sir Jacks legacy is the Ground – the team is down to Mick and Steve Morgans money….

I am pleased your obviously a true fan. I can never see why fans have to do it. Think the lads know it was not good. I was not on about all Fans just some. Not sure whether I agree with you with regards Hoddle days now that was dior. I agree it is depressing I feel sick to the stomach sometimes because I know they can do better than this.

Keep supporting them that is all we can do and hopefully it will come right.

you think being a wolves fan cant get any worse.coming off a high of last season it has been a steady flow of disapointment week in week out.with harewood scoring everywhere he goes(apart from down here),we clearly havent got any idea how to play in the last third or any other third.
As for morgan he looked around the clubs and saw some good development sites around the city.£10 for the club but makes millions from the building, how about you give me themillions and ill give you £10.then you might have a little insight to how us wolves fans feel

This is not the time for decisions to take too long to be made. Our future as a prem team depends on what is done now.

    Facts:

McCarthy did extremely well getting us where we are (but that is in the past).
Buys too many players and doesn’t play them consistently (Fletcher, Milijas, Mouyokolo, Van Damme etc. – This has gone on for ages)
Clearly has favourites who cannot be dropped no matter how badly they play (Berra, Ward, Keogh in past etc. – This has gone on for ages)
Talks tripe every week with same comments about putting a shift in as if hard work is the only important factor – forgetting quality wins you games.
Cannot spend money well – leaves a £7.5m forward on bench – why spend so much on a player and not play him ? – Also, his best buys have always been cheap or free. Free doesn’t work in this league…
Includes players in squad who clearly don’t want to be here – Jones / Van Damme, whilst others who care don’t get a look in?????????
Some body please make a case for him to stay without going back to the past – the past won’t keep us in this league.

I like a lot of readers to this column have been bemused with mick mccarthys tactics and playing personnel.last saturdays results must have been hard to take. mccarthys first mistake was not starting milijas, to find an excuse to introduce him because foley failed to recover from his mistake seems to be brought on by panic. how come when s.ward in particular made several defensive errors he was never withdrawn.
mancienne must play centre back on saturday alongside stearman with fletcher and seb up front doyle in midfield. it is a must win game against a sunderland team who recently played chelsea off the park.

Usually when I hear that the managers position is not on the agenda then I know it’s just a matter of time, so fingers crossed. Sorry but the time for hard work to make a difference is over, you can work as hard as you like but if you are not good enough, you are not good enough, end of. But we’ve heard all this before to no avail so I’ll just shut up like the good Wolves fan that I am. I hate to say it but after this many years of incompetence from the upper echelons of The Mol, I’m used to it.

Mick McCarthy is still the best manager we have had at Wolves for a very long time. But that is unfortunatelty not much of a compliment. However I do wonder who we could get in who would be any better.

Alas, the bottom line is that mick said this was our season defining game. If that is how he defines the rest of this season, I have to say I think his position is untennable.

When I was in Perth last year , (funny , I didn’t see those diehard clowns Grace and Johnwolf there), I asked Mick what was the objective. He said 17th would be a vast improvement, and I asked why not aim for mid table as his suggestion could spark a defeatist attitude. To his credit we finished 15th. However, we all remember how bad the bottom three teams were, ( even though one did the double over us!) so, I real terms we got out of jail free last season. Now, he has populate dthe squad with injury plagued rubbish and total tripe. No other Manager with in 7, 8 or 9 places has had teh luxury of spending so much money. This year we are WORSE because of his decisions and purchases, going backwards at an alarming rate, and no team with 9 points after 14 games has ever survived. Come on ostriches in the boardroom..act now!

Sir Billy, I am sorry you miss the point and there is a lot of it about.Sir Jacks legacy is the ground PLUS the £30MILLION.When every other person or group acquire a viable football club they have to pay the existing owner the going rate for the assets. In our case the value was ploughed straight back into the club due to Sir Jack’s unprecedented generosity. When the Glazers bought United the existing shareholders kept all the acquisition costs for themselves. We have a massive advantage due to Sir Jack, and we should be doing a lot better on the pitch.

can someone please tell me why we arent considering bringing Ismail into our team?

Rated by the national papers as probably britains first £100 million pound player and scoring goals for fun in the U18′s wolves academy, with trickery like Ronaldo, come on, have some backbone and let’s give a couple of these kids a go… everybody else does but wolves??

    What about Kempton too ?

Stephen Ward or Ismail ? mmm, there’s a tough decision to make eh.

rich wolf, I hope Zele is one day a star. But he is still in the youth team and only a sub for the the reserves tonight. We don’t want to destroy kids by picking them too soon.Just because irresponsible people make wild claims on £100m potential does not mean the kid is ready or for that matter will ever make the grade.A more valid question in my opinion is why have we not signed a decent right winger given Kightly’s long standing injury.

I was merely asking the question why everyother team can play their under 18′s in their first team squad and we can’t…

Everyone does it, most recent of course is Villa which is a club with similar injuries to ourselves and they played 3 of them at the weekend.

I’m not so sure the claims are so wild either. I’ve wtched him a number of times, most recently against Man utd where Wolves won 4- 0.

I too have seen young Zeli play and he´s quite something for such a young age, a good football brain, with fast feet and skills to match.

I think he´s only 16 but dont quote me on that, i at least think he´d be worth having on the bench. Attacking Right midfielder is one of our weak spots so why not Mick, must be worth a go ?????

Only thing i can say against the kid is he´s abit lightweight, when Rooney started his age into the first team he was still quite stocky.

BUT AGREE, GIVE THE LAD A GO !

Lisa C, well said and good for you for saying your piece so well. At the same time it isn´t unreasonable for fans to voice their unhappiness at the situation we all find our club in. Maybe some people are not so good at expressing themselves as others and they let their emotions rule their heads. However some of the players deserve to get some stick for some of the performances they´ve put in. One has a right to question why some players are actually still in the team. That, you must concede IS down to the manager? There are serious questions to be answered by the management as far as I am concerned. I want to know why we have players who cost this club a lot of money who sit on the bench week in week out when some who consistently play are (try genuinely as they might) definitely out of their depths in this league.
Can you put your hand on your heart and say that some of MMs million plus signings who are no longer with us were good investments, when they clearly look to me like unresearched knee jerk signings and a complete waste of money. The only other manager I can think of right now who frittered away millions on the wrong signings of late was Benitez at Liverpool. That club, in turmoil or not made a business decision to terminate his contract because on the pitch the team was sliding backwards. I like Benitez, I think he is honest, hard working and means well but eventually was shown to be out of his depth in the Premiership……….

This guy is 31 years of age – has only played 28 mins so far this season and scored 1 goal last season in 20+ games??? Thats our left back position sorted then?!

Joking apart – MM and Co imv have gone beyond the point of no return – Time for a change before its too late or are we keeping MM and Co in a job so that we can ‘bounce back’ at the first attempt???
