Marcus Hahnemann’s vow to Wolves
Monday 22nd November 2010, 5:00PM GMT.
Marcus Hahnemann has vowed Wolves will turn around their woeful run this Saturday against Sunderland.
Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Blackpool was Wolves’ ninth in 11 games and came after they conceded an early goal for the third time in a row.
But goalkeeper Hahnemann expects a positive response at Molineux this weekend.
He said: “When they don’t go for you, they just don’t. We’ve started terribly in the last three games by conceding so early on and it’s so frustrating.
“But we’re going to change it around – starting this week. The most important thing now is to get something out of the Sunderland game.
“We need to look forward to that now and make sure we get going from the first minute.
“We keep saying we need results but we’re struggling to find them.”
Hahnemann wants team and fans to be united on Saturday.
He said: “Hopefully the fans will be behind us – you could feel their frustration at the end.
“But we’re as frustrated as they are – everyone is out there trying their hardest and we’re trying to do everything we can to put things right.
“Sometimes things just don’t come off.”
Hahnemann admitted he was at fault for Marlon Harewood’s second goal for Blackpool just before half-time when he dropped Charlie Adam’s corner.
The Wolves No 1 said: “I should have dealt with the second goal, I got hit from behind as I was about to jump.
“It was one of those – it was hard to tell what happened because there were so many bodies in there. I talked to the referee, Mark Clattenburg, and he didn’t think it was a foul.
“It’s just the way it goes sometimes.”
Hahnemann is also disbelieving after conceding a third successive goal in the opening stages after Luke Varney’s third minute strike.
He said: “It’s just so frustrating, it’s diabolical. It’s having a huge impact. The main thing is we’ve got to try not to let it affect us.
“Ultimately it has, goals change games and they have, totally, as well as the gameplan, which was to stay solid for 10 minutes and then build from there.
“But we conceded after two and a half minutes – it was a joke.”
Hahnemann admitted Varney’s wonder goal was the best he’s seen for some time.
He said: “We got hit by an unbelievable strike. I don’t think there was a better goal all weekend – or maybe for a few months.
“I took a couple of steps back and then I didn’t even move my feet. I thought ‘if this is going in, I’m not getting anywhere near this.’
“I turned around hoping it was going to hit the post.”
