Kevin Doyle spells it out for Wolves

Kevin Doyle has spelt out the grim reality facing Wolves after declaring “we are in a relegation fight.”
But the £6.5million striker, who scored his first Premier League goal in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Blackpool, believes acknowledging their position now may help them, after admitting relegation sneaked up on the team when he experienced the drop at Reading.
He said: “It’s not going to creep up on us – we’re in a relegation battle, it’s as simple as that and we have to fight tooth and nail to get out of it.
“We know where we are and we have to deal with it. When Reading got relegated in our second season we thought we were safe right until the last game of the season.
“We never had that kick up the bum to get us going and get ourselves out of it.
“So hopefully because we know where we are, we can take that as a positive and use it to battle and get ourselves out of it.”
Doyle is convinced Wolves can escape the drop, despite losing nine of their last 11 games and being five points from safety.
But the Republic of Ireland international agrees actions must speak louder than words.
He said: “We know we can get out of the bottom three because we’ve been playing well. But playing well and winning games is a different thing.
“There are only so many times we can say we played well but come away with nothing.
“Hopefully if we can keep going maybe we can sneak a win instead of playing well and getting beat.”
Doyle admits it’s difficult to keep going after conceding an early goal for the third game in a row.
He said: “The way things are going against us at the moment that just seems to be happening.
“It’s tough to take but we have to pick ourselves up and go again. We’ve been creating chances and scoring goals.
“We just have to keep going and trying to play well.”
Doyle was at least relieved to end his 12-match league drought.
He said: “It’s been a tough run and that’s one thing I’ll take out of it – getting off the ‘duck egg’.”
