Manager Mick McCarthy has revealed his sympathy at Steven Fletcher’s struggle to sparkle for Wolves.

Fletcher has been restricted to just five Premier League starts for Wolves before today but has shown an eye for goal with four in all competitions to top the club scoring charts.

The Scotland international has been frustrated at being played out wide when he has appeared.

But the 23-year-old has also indicated his willingness to knuckle down and play wherever he is needed.

And he has drawn a sympathetic ear from his manager, who is trying to juggle his options while trying to find a winning formula to fire Wolves up the table.

“I feel for Fletcher a bit. He’s been in different positions and he’d prefer to be playing up front with a partner,” said McCarthy.

“But I haven’t been able to afford that in the games we’ve had. Maybe if we can get to that stage, we’ll see better of him.

“But not everyone settles in straight away.

“And it’s not easy when the team’s not flying and picking up points every week.”

Mick, you BOUGHT him as a striker, so PLAY him as a striker. Not rocket science.

“and its even more difficult when he’s played out of position every week”

you forgot to add that sentence Mick. I don’t know why Mick, but I like you, you just keep insisting on playing players out of position then you have a puzzled look on their face when the player doesn’t “settle in”.

I don’t see too many other teams with problems with players settling in. In fact, I can’t recall one to be honest.

Mick , u havnt been able to afford that??? We have lost 8 out the last 10 games!!!! We could hardly have got worse results. Play him in his right position, not rocket science!!

He seems to be able to score ! so why not play him as a centre forward, or maybe he is in line to be our next left back !
Mick you pick the team, what’s the problem.

But isn’t this the way with Mick from Freddie Eastwood to Stefan HighTower? Be honest, we never REALLY got to see them have a good go in the team.

Surely the obvious is Fletcher up front, Doyle just off, Hunt and Jarvis on the wings, Henry and Milijas in the middle (muscle and some creativity).

The constant playing players out of position is like some kid playing FIFA or PES on the XBox and picking based on names and favourites. It makes no sense.

Mick, I reckon you have three games.

We cannot play two strikers as we don’t have two (or even 1!) midfield players good enough to play in a 4 4 2 formation. He was playing up front in a 4-4-2 at Man Utd when he missed a sitter and gave away easy possession leading to their winning goal.

He needs to pull his finger out, work for the team and stop complaining. How much does he get paid? and he can only play in one position???

When is he going to understand we need the strikers playing, Fletcher, SEB we need goals for goodness sake, the table dosen’t lie, perhaps he can tell his captain as well.

Mick ,it is obvious that you have no idea on tactics and playing players in their correct position.I agree with everything that`s said here so far.We don`t want to suffer like this every season but we will as long as you`re here. Please do the correct thing once in your life and go then we can get in a manager who is capable of doing a job, someone like Martin O`Niell comes to mind.If we don`t get a win today at Blackpool I wouldn`t even get on the coach home if I was you.

Ive been saying on here for some a while now that we should have been looking to get Jermaine Jenas in from Spurs, what an excellent game he’s had today, and made a long run to get a tackle in, on 94mins? ,thats the sort of player we need one who can last 95mins NOT 80/85mins when we concede so many late goals? Get and buy him in January Mick/Morgan/Moxey. 4.5.1 today and its time for you Doyle to ‘deliver’, you’ve got 5 other players to run around in midfield ? If not give Fletcher a run of 5 games or so up top? UTW: LETS DO IT TODAY 3pts

As much as i like Doyler he`s not the team–bench him and let Fletch and EB play up front.
With service from Jarvo and Milias(oh he`s benched !)
Lot of respect for M.M hes done well and he`s not the only manager to keep playing players out of position. But ,makes you think sometimes.

    Hard being a Wolves fan—but i wouldn`t swap.

What Fletcher should have done is join us in our Championship winning season

He’d keep getting picked then even if he wasn’t playing well

Hows he gonna sparkle on the bench, get outta my club Muppet Mick! You clearly have your favourites who are just no good. Good managers admit to their mistakes, but your just too pig headed.

Surely it is now time to call a halt to this shambles. We DO have the telly and internet up here and it is all very well, after yet another defeat each Saturday, painfully listening to MM relating how well the lads played etc etc. As I have already posted, I actually attend Molineux for games, and it averages out at £350 per throw. But being back in the Championship, which will inevitably happen if Martin O’Neill is not drafted in NOW, will call a halt to my travels to good old Wolverhampton.
Other clubs would have said ta ta to this inept manager long ago. Come on the powers that be at Waterloo Road, at least give us a chance of Premier League survival.

Sympathy- he is rubbish. How about sympathy for us fans having to put up with these performances. MM needs to do the right thing for once and leave before we have no chance. However I haven’t got a clue who will replace him MON will not come to wolves, he will be back at celtic soon.
