Blackpool 2 Wolves 1

Saturday 20th November 2010, 5:10PM GMT.

Blackpool 2 Wolves 1

Wolves’ relegation plight deepened as they crashed to their ninth defeat in 11 games at Blackpool.

They were only kept off the bottom of the Premier League for the first time in a year by virtue of goals scored over West Ham, whose game at Liverpool kicked off at 5.30pm.

Visiting fans chanted ‘what a load of rubbish’ at half-time after goals from Luke Varney on three minutes and ex-Wolves loanee Marlon Harewood just before half-time.

Kevin Doyle headed his first Premier League goal of the season four minutes from time, after second-half substitutes Nenad Milijas and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake both hit the post.

But there was no way back forMick McCarthy’s side, who have lost six successive away games and have taken just one point from 21 on the road.

And Blackpool’s victory owed at least something to the tactics of manager Ian Holloway, who bypassed the midfield and played a 4-2-4 formation which Wolves eventually matched after the hour.

By then nerves had got to McCarthy’s men, who struggled to create clear-cut chances against the Premier League’s worst defence going into the game

But Wolves, wearing their new all-black change kit for the first time, had the worst possible start when they conceded in the third minute – their third in successive games.

Kevin Foley, who has been in excellent form, was beaten too easily by Varney to Richard Kingson’s goal kick, and the former Crewe striker hit an unstoppable speculative rising shot into the top corner of the net.

Wolves tried to hit back immediately and George Elokobi claimed handball, after his shot clearly hit Stephen Crainey in the chest after Blackpool failed to clear Matt Jarvis’ corner.

But the Tangerines responded by forcing the first save from Marcus Hahnemann, the goalkeeper falling to his right to save Harewood’s low 30-yard drive on the turn.

Wolves forced their own save when Kingson – in for Matt Gilks, who has a broken kneecap – punched clear on the line from David Jones’ volleyed free kick.

The recalled Michael Mancienne and Foley switched positions after barely a quarter of an hour, as McCarthy sought a way back into the game.

They forced two headed chances either side of the half hour.

First the recalled Christophe Berra forced Kingson to stretch backwards, then Doyle missed a good opportunity when he glanced wide unmarked from Elokobi’s cross.

In between, Wolves made a tactical substitution when Foley made way for Nenad Milijas as McCarthy went for midfield dominance.

Wolves continued to enjoy more possession than the home side but looked nervous to try things at times and struggled to open them up.

Jones volleyed wide of the angle then Stephen Hunt headed off target from Elokobi’s cross, as they continued to probe without any real cutting edge.

Blackpool were content to sit back and soak up the pressure.

But when they hit Wolves on the break, they caused problems.

Centre-back Ian Evatt twice advanced from deep to pose a threat, the first time just before Jones’s effort to force Hahnemann to save his 30-yarder at the second attempt, then he had the goalkeeper tipping behind for a corner.

Hahnemann was again the man under spotlight as Blackpool scored a second goal a minute before the break.

The 38-year-old dropped David Vaughan’s corner under pressure from Luke Varney and oHarewood prodded home off Richard Stearman, despite Doyle’s desperate attempts to clear on the line with Jarvis.

Wolves fans booed their side of at half-time, chanting ‘what a load of rubbish.’

McCarthy introduced Sylvan Ebanks-Blake at half-time for Hunt to provide a greater attacking threat.

And it was the visitors who had the first attack, only for Jones to blaze over after Jarvis’ cross hit a defender to bounce kindly for him on the edge of the box.

But it was end-to-end stuff, as Neal Eardley’s cross sailed across the face of goal before Doyle did the same at the other end.

Doyle then should have done better when his determined run ended with a poor left foot shot that was easy for Kingson.

Wolves then went for broke with their third substitution on the hour as Steven Fletcher came on for Henry, who was feeling his right knee before he went off.

The visitors went within inches of a reply seconds later, when Milijas hit the base of the post with a low drive.

Ebanks-Blake did the same from point-blank range on 77 from another Jarvis cross.

But the striker could only force a simple save from Kingson on 83 minutes, at the end of a determined run.

Doyle finally got Wolves back into it on 86, with a deflected far post header from Elokobi’s deep cross.

Another performance with plenty of chances but no one capable of getting on the end of them, Not surprising with our two main forwards and goalscorers playing wide up front – they should be receiving crosses not making them- no wonder we arent scoring.Lets get real Mc Carthy – we are fading fast into Prem oblivion

First and foremost, let me just say that I’ve always given MM the benefit of the doubt, but after todays result, and the last few games…He should be relieved of his duties!

Fair enough, we are playing well, but you don’t get points for that, you get points for playing ugly and grinding results, ala Birmingham – Chelsea (BTW, good result)

He consistantly plays his favourites (I honestly couldn’t believe it when Ward was on the bench), and with majority of his signings being of a championship calibre, he has shown he is nothing more than a championship manager.

I would honestly love to see Wilkins given the hot-seat, or Curbs if possible. Mr. Morgan, please get this sorted.

After such a promising start, this season is turning into a nightmare!

Last week I said we should give MM 4 games to turn things around…. honestly expecting him to get a reaction from the players post Bolton and for us to at least pick up a point at Blackpool! I was wrong…so very wrong!! We are already effectively cut adrift from the clubs above us, all of whom seem to be more capable of picking up points than us.

I understand that changing the Manager will not guarantee us Premiership football next season, but retaining MM as manager is only going to deliver us Championship football in 2011.

Time for a rethink – 9 defeats in the last 11 is not good enough, in any league, in any country!
This is not a knee jerk reaction, I do not and never have liked MM, but his results have diluted my anti MM feeling since him taking charge.
Results are key and we aren’t getting any end of!
Tactics are so poor, so so poor, to go to Blackpool and play 1 up front, shocking.
The other thing is Jarvis, who has been picked not because MM prefers him but because MM had no other options with Kites injured! Now Jarvis is our star player….how many other Wolves players have slipped through because of MM pig headedness of playing square pegs in round holes!

However, his is a results driven position and playing well without points is of no use whatsoever. Not only that, an unlucky manager is one no team want to be associated with. Mick, you should take pride in what you have achieved but move over for someone else.
Playing Ward continuously has been a mistake and juts when Milijas is looking like a premiership player you drop him for a three defensive mid-fielders against Blackpool having played against the top teams. Where is the sense in this.

I think that Rob 1 has made the right call. In Doyle we have one striker and he spends most of his time searching for or crossing the ball. I, nor any of the fans have the answer BUT:
Why not start with Milijas who has been so effective in the last 2 games?
Why continue with Mancienne who has little to offer in any position?
Why are we persisting with Hunt? I don’t recall an effective cross all game?
Why do we leave it so late to win a game? I really believe that Fletcher and Doyle can work together but in central positions. How many times does Jarvis have to cross to find no-one there?
How far is Zubar away from starting? I think he could add so much particularly in an attacking sense and so negating the need to play Hunt.
How many times does Berra have to tug a shirt? In the 60s he would have been given a big smack by Osgood! If you can’t defend then leave it others.
Of course I am an expert but not paid lots of money to be one!

Mick McCarthy has now surely reached the end of the road after 9 defeats in 11 games?
His Premier League record is abysmal and it is not only questionable how much longer Steve Morgan can watch his investment go down the pan but also the redevelopment plans must now be in serious jeopardy too.
Mick has done a good job up to this season but as many of us have believed he just is not PL manager material and his tenure as manager MUST END NOW!
As some have said, Ray Wilkins would be a good shout to take over particularly as he is hurting from his Chelsea dismissal and would certainly like to show them that it was a big mistake in letting him go.
Todays game emphasised once again Mick’s bad management. He drops Milijas who has been an inspiration over the past few games, says he sympathises with Fletcher’s desire to play then promptly benches him again but plays Doyle who all season has been unable to score – Yes today he did but then it was already too late!
Mick McCarthy was a decent defender in his playing days but we just cannot defend for toffee giving a goal start to almost every team we play before we wake up (and we did it yet again today!) – so what exactly does Mick do with the team in training? Obviously he does not get involved with defending!
It really is time for Mick to go before whatever faith the supporters have disappears altogether and the chances of Wolves remaining in the Premier League also disappear. To be out of touch come Christmas is according to PL history, the sounding of the death knell and if Mick has any allegiance to Wolves whatsoever, he will not want that to happen.
So to Mick, thanks for all the work you have done for our club, it is much appreciated but your job is done here and we wish you the very best for the future.

MM has gone as far as he can. He is so naive, he drones on and on in his interviews but offers no hope of changing tactics. Any manager in his right mind plays his best players in their best positions. MM leaves some of our best players on the bench and plays others out of position. Our best goal scorer is forever on the bench, whilst our star forward flicks on to know one, ends up on the wings and can’t shoot! Xmas is too late, MM must go now so that another manager has time to assess th players and make use of the transfer window. Have you seen the fixtures for Jan and Feb? Oh my god we are doomed unless action is taken now. Almost anybody would be better than MM, but it is going to be difficult to attract anyone of any stature, maybe we need to bring in a duo of wannabee’s Wilkins and A.N. Other??

As far as I’m concerned we are still and always will be lucky to have Mick as our manager! The players worship him! A week ago! Jarvis was being talked about for England! Don’t kid me peolple! For a Manager who everyone rates and is building up our image after the years of abuse! And for the first manager for god knows how many long years to finali get us up and keep us up? I know alot of people look at results and rate their teams as their position on the table! Well we have been playing brilliant! Getting unlucky I agree! But as I’ll say now and say until the end of the season. Mick is our saviour! He will turn it around! Morgan knows he’s qualities! Also stop reading the headlines and making ur own views! Watch the full games and c the commitment they have! They wear their shirts with pride and if u don’t u don’t play! Look at Van dame! Stick with our Mick and watch his wonders!

56 – how the hell can you have another favourite Premiership team if you claim you are a fan of the Wolves?!!

For me, I am Wolves thro and thro and couldn’t give a “flying duck” (typo!) for any other club – Premiership or otherwise!!

As for suggestions on the possible alternatives to MM as Manager….. it’s a no to Phil Brown from me despite one or two posters suggesting him as a possibility!

O’Driscoll from Donny might be worth a shout but he is unproven at Premiership level and I think would be seen as too high risk by the Molineux Board.

As for Martin O’Neill – if Villa couldn’t fulfill his ambitions I am not sure how the hell people think that we can?! A non starter I fear, even though I rate him as a manager.

In reality, the speculation on MM’s position is more than likely to be academic as I think that Morgan and Moxey will stick with him regardless of how the next few games pan out ….. which means (and I would be delighted if MM proved me wrong) that we are probably down already.

Another dour performance. Missed first goal due to delays in accessing ground – about 500 Wolves outside at kick off.
Had much possession but inept final pass and finshing. I cannot see how we can now get out of this mess. We seem incapable of defending adequately and when attacking either final pass is poor or strike on goal is tentative.
Early sub of Foley today seemed to be panic rather than constructive. USA keeper possibly at fault for both tangerine goals.
What a nightmare for us Blackpool Wolves this weekend.
First time this season away supporters have had a go at the team and management – much discontent!!
I hate to say this but MM and TC need to seek alternative employment. Even then we will struggle to stay up – but who knows with new ideas.
Sadly weekends are becoming a chore instead of an enjoyable experience. I can cope with good performances, trying and defeat by better teams – but Holloway’s mish mash army????

Come on Mr Morgan GET HIM OUT NOW and get Curbishley in. Forget Gus Poyet, he´s having a great time with Brighton, why would he want to come to the Mol, he´ll be visiting next season anyway probably counting on going home with three points already!

Mick has been absolutely the best thing to happen to Wolves since Bully was working his magic. Give the man some credit.
    2. Sack MM and who do you really expect us to get? O’ Neill? No chance. He’s not gonna go from a club with aspirations of playing in Europe to trying to save Wolves who have very limited resources and are odds-on to make him look bad by going down.

Wolves sack Manager….This is the headline the majority of Wolves supporters are demanding, and rightly so, the man is not up the job, even you must see that Mr Morgan.
We will be relegated, no doubts about that, unless you move very fast and appoint an experienced Premiership Manager to take immediate charge, and pull us out of this.
We have talent that is not being utilised to the teams advantage, and players like Jarvis will be easy pickings for Premiership clubs, as he will not want to play Championship football, and who could blame him.

Consider if you will the second rate and disappointing players McCarthy has spent your money on, none of which would appeal to any other club.
    Doyle- great disappointment
Hunt – Will never make the grade
Fletcher- Not interested & past his prime
Milijas- Plays o.k but at the end of his career
The other three signings have been out of their depth in the Premiership, and while Hannermann has tried, our defenders are abismal.

We need as urgent priority, a new leader, who can re motivate these guys to believe in themselves, and I wager some success will follow.

Would you continue to pay the thousand of pounds you pay Mick, for little or no return, at any one of your business enterprises ? I don’t think so.

Make it this week Mr Morgan, Wolves are a laughing stock, and its getting worse and I, as a Wolves supporter of many years, am embarrassed that the Wolves board is so weak, they refuse to accept that our Club is dying.

MM has been good for wolves no matter what anyone says!!!!!!!, if it was not for him we would not be where we are now. However even the best managers in the world reach a point at a club where they have taken it as far as they can, i think MM has to realise that he has reached that point with us. Mick you are a genuine person i have no doubt that you have wolves best interests in your heart and for this reason please please please resign now before you are sacked once relagation is realised. If you resign now at least your tenure can be remembered for taking us into the PL and not taking us down from it. This way you get to leave with your pride intact and whoever comes in (Ray Wilkins+Gus Poyet), will have a decent amount of time to assess and adress our problems. As regards to all of you mentioning Mr Morgans investment in Wolves, remember this Morgan has not spent a fraction of what we think he has on this club, the vast majority of the monies paid by wolves in transfer fee,s and wages have come from our prem money not his pocket. Any talk of investment into the stadium is just pipe talk i can walk in to any architects with £500 in my pocket and get some wonderful plans for the redevelopement of the ground, (just look at the ex Coventry chairman who for years got players to join with new exciting plans for there new ground) it NEVER HAPPENED, and neither will the new mol.

My love for this club will never die along with the vast majority of supporters Mr Morgan knows this and so when relagations is assured he can put his plans back into the cupboard and look forward to spening the parachute payments for 3 years to come, with th knowledge that we will continue to come and watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When we were promoted I made the call on this very forum that MICK as done his bit for the club and lets shake his hand and show him the door.Sometimes this sort of JUDGEMENT as to be made,Mick as a proven track record of doing well with lower league teams,SUNDERLAND was and is the proof that his type of thinking and way of playing are just not suited to premiership football, add with the fact that it is well documented that MICK is stubborn at the best of times and does not adapt his methods. This combination is only ever going to result in relegation.
I am also aware go down this season and he will most likely bring us up again, but then it will be another struggle. So if we want to be a club who spends one season grinding out results in the championship and going up,then spends a season in the premiership losing.
It hurts so much because we were presented with a real oppurtunity to establish ourselves in the premiership,as the standard is not the same as a few years ago,its alot lower.MICK as to go for the club to move forward.A couple decades of struggle had the chance to end when we got promoted,we were a stable club with money to invest and not in a pressure cooker situation to win trophies, only pressure was to maintain our premiership status. The situation was not thought out properly,I say this with a heavy heart but MICK WILL get us relegated. The reasons are very well documented by his buys, team selections and the biggest contributor to mick not ever being a top manager. His contradictory ways and favouring the boys he gets on better with and wanting graft over guile and playing to stifle teams and get results with luck as to going out and PLAYING to WIN.
    Goodbye MICK………………………….O.

he got us there and kept us there, even got us a very respectable position on his 1st season even though we had 10 players when he took over..
does this not count for anything???
he’s unearthed some gems in jarvis, kightly and a few others from lower leagues.
i’m not calling for his head as i believe MM’s strength is getting teams into the premier, if we go down let him take us back up again as i know he will have no problems taking us up again.
then look at the situation and how far he may take us.
maybe he has taken us as far as he possibly can but while SM wants him there i’ll be 100% behind him and every player in a WWFC shirt, no matter how low we are in the league.

Well for the first time since MM took over at Wolves – I am thinking he has to go. I love the guy but think he has taken Wolves as far as he can. Too much tinkering and the use of players out of position just to accommodate a favoured few. Its not good enough any more. Wolves are a big club and need fresh modern management to steer them back into the higher echelons of the Premier league. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to know something is not right when Blackpool, Bolton, Sunderland etc etc – all teams that have struggled in the past – are way ahead of us at this time. Sorry Mick – but I now have to agree – its time for you to go with our heartfelt thanks and best wishes for what you have done for us so far.

With certain notable exceptions (Sir Alex Ferguson), there are only so many times that a manager and his backroom staff can walk into the same dressing romm and make the same speeches. Most managers have a natural life span at football clubs and it is now painfully obvious that MM is life expired at Wolves.

Morgan, act now before you lose the support and the faith of the Molineux many. This season is a gonner and most people would accept that. Appoint a new manager and you might just get lucky. Failing that, your new manager will have half a season to assess the playing staff and the new manager will be under no pressure from the fans with regard to this season’s outcome.

McCarthy is showing the classic signs of someone under severe pressure, strange, erratic decision making & then changing his mind early in the game.

Eg leaving Milijas out, then swicthing Mannciene & Foley after 20 mins, then bringing Milijas on after 30 mins, a complete waste of a substitution opportunity.

We need to play a settled team.

2 wins in 14 tells a sorry tale & I think it’s time for a change if we are serious about staying up.

However I’d stop short of a panic appointment, as some earlier post suggests, Phil Brown, do me a favour!!!!

Take a look at the teams around us and hand on heart, we have seen some cracking performances recently only undone by cruel twists and turns. Blackpool never threatened our goal apart from a set piece and a wonder goal. We peppered theirs and deserved an equalizer. I don’t care if we face Chelsea, Blackpool or Accrington Stanley, a point away and 3 at home is good enough for a new Premiership side.

Of course, it’s points that count and without them, memories of great play will fade faster than Saturday bruises on Monday morning. But as you look at the the form of those amongst us there is surely reason to stay calm. Now is not the time to fold it’s time to unite.

Which is a shame because although we haven’t been lethal enough in front of goal we have played well this season going forward. The big problem is when teams are attacking us. We give attackers all the time in the world and back off until we get to our penalty area. Last season we were great at closing down players quickly and not giving them time to pick a pass. Its simple enough to say the old cliche ‘Its a results business’ and unfortunately MM & Co have simply not won enough games for whatever reasons

Although we have no define right to win any game the fact that we give goals away right at the start of each game is beyond a joke!

Players appear short of ideas and frankly look clueless in games from a lack of leadership!

We huff and puff but end up achieving nothing

The list is endless and probably pointless to bother with

In short – I hope that te club are looking now to find an immediate replacement before December arrives as imv I dont see MM and Co changing anything on the pitch or in the team

Or will JM and SM just roll over and wait allowing MM to bring us up again in yo yo fashion from the Chumpionship?

Imv MM & Co are not the medium and long term Prem management solution – but are the cheap option for the CEO and SM

Even if MM & Co can serve up a miracle and keep us up – Its time we looked forward with a capable management team that have tactical knowledge and can cope with similar funded teams plus the abillity to see what players our team needs instead of playing players based on the ‘put in a shift theory’

The current team has too many passengers – but imv a better management team will be able to organise the existing squad far better Its time for a change!

    We demand far better!

    Up the Wolves!

He is not getting the ebst out of a squad who should be in mid table comfortably. Time to see who can do it and whilst they have the time to make an impact. Of course ONeil would be favourite but Wilkins has done marvelous stuff at Chelsea and deserves a chance to shine as a mangager again. Captain Smooth

There is a fairly savage cross section of views being expressed over; not just this result, but the performances over the season so far.

    Justifiable – absolutley.

These views are born out of a love & affection for a football club that goes back way farther then Mick McCarthys reign & even before Steve Morgan stole the club for 10quid. This love affair began in the late 1800′s & has survived some exceptional times & some very gruesome times – all of which have been written before so we won’t go into too much detail, except to say we are fed up with an underperfoming team which should be far stronger & capable this season then last.

Forget 2nd season syndrome, this is a poor excuse for when things go wrong & boy are they going wrong bigtime!

Someone quite rightly said in an earlier post that Steve Morgan would not retain the services of an underperforming manager in his Redrow Construction business, which lets be honest is, & has proved very successful. How does this differ with running a football club we have to ask ourselves. The only outcome I can think of was born when appointing Mick in the role as manager, when things were tough trying to get out of the championship, the CEO & the owner stated it was a long term plan built on a 3 year goal. We achieved that & now we are into the second part of the long term goal – establishing ourselves as one of the EPL teams. We all believe the Wolves belong there, but it is no god given right based on the history of our great club. This status has to be earned & fought for. Once you have it you have to work even harder to maintain it. Do we have it? As I see it this season we are a long way from achieving this status.

We all want to see change as we can all see it has become stale & predictable. It’s no good getting on the players backs (except of course if they are not 100% committed) as they are selected based on events on the training ground, & will play where they are told to play.

Questions have to be answered by MM & TC these questions should be coming from Jez & Steve; which in my view is not interfering with the day to day running of the football team (Micks job) not club (Steve Morgans job) & there is a difference. But when it comes to money spent & team selection & if it was my money I would be looking for answers.

Q1 Why spend so much money on a striker (Fletcher) & not play him as a striker?

Q2 Why spend so much money on a LB, (van Damme) which has been our weakest position for two seasons & not play him?

Q3 Why spend money on one of the best play makers (Millijas) in Europe last season & not play him consistently?

Q4 We spend good money on a CB (Zubar) & play him out of position.

Q5 Why are we playing a striker (Ward) as a LB. Sometimes players do revert to alterantive roles & there was no better example of this then Ray Kennedy at Liverpool when he joined from Arsenal, but it didn’t happen overnight. Even our own John Richards started as a winger before moving to inside forward to partner the Doog.

Q6 Why are we playing a RB (Foley) anywhere then his rightful position.

I could go on, but Mick please take the blinkers off & talk to the fans. We know you are a gruff Yorkshireman with wit & grit, but your stubborness will be the downfall of you with this great club. All the memories that you have achieved will be soured very quickly if this decline continues.

We know you are a proud man Mick & resignation would not be a sign of weakness in the eyes of our supporters, but a sign of strength in realising you have taken the club as far as you can & it’s time to hand the reigns over. TC you also need to move on as you have become to comfortable in your position at the Wolves. You have overcome many managerial changes at Wolves without losing your position & have become more stale then Mick.

Final note, I see there is talk of Everton having interest in Karl Henry – I say let him go..

Nothing has disproven that so far, only a huge waste of money on average or worse players – Halford, Mujangi, Surman, Maierhofer, Mancienne, Castillo et al. Then having misguided loyalties to favourites who aren’t doing it, and not using useful players when he had the chance (like Guedioura and Van Damme).

    169. I wouldn’t get too excited about Bothroyd. He’s not PL quality, let alone international quality. A few goals in a good team and he’s called up. If we were top of the Championship now and banging in the goals, Ebanks-Blake would be in the England squad. In fairness to MM, that’s the one area he hasn’t let us down with. He hasn’t sold players who have then gone on to prove him wrong. Mark Davies is the only one who comes close to an argument he should have been given games, but then he’s only on the bench at Bolton at present.

169 – oldgoldnblack. Hindsight is a marvellous thing. If you surveyed 1,000 Wolves fans when JB was here, I’d imagine the number of people suggesting he’d play for England was in the single digits. Can’t blame anyone for that really.

As for Martin O’Neill – I really don’t think he likes Wolves. I recall the programme notes following McGoo’s move from Leicester to Wolves. His comments were that Wolves(and McGoo) had acted terribly. However, he said he could understand when Little left to go to Villa – which was pretty much the same thing (other than Little having a link to Villa). Whilst he’d be an improvement on MM, I think the messiah-like status some people have afforded him is a little misguided.

Curbishley has been out of the game for ages and despite applying for jobs has never been hired. Is there some reason behind this? And whilst he did a decent job at Charlton all those years ago, he hardly set West Ham on fire in his last managerial stint.

Can’t imagine why Warnock, who has admitted to loving life down South, would leave a team with strong financial backing and likely to get promoted to a team likely to get relegated.

Unless Morgan has some contacts from his Liverpool days – Sammy Lee?!?!? – the best we could do would be O’Driscoll. But that’s a pretty big risk.

If we get relegated, arguably MM is the best man to get us up again, which is a pretty awful kind of catch-22 situation. We’re in a tight spot but I think there’s no alternative other than sticking with the man.

I agree with a lot of comments on here that Mick has either run his course or in my opinion he needs to open his eyes to a few things that are going on. Dropping Milijas was a poor decision if anyone else come in to run the club he’s be first name on the board come a match. Fletcher needs some more pitch time in the righ position a 4-4-2 would work fine now with the width and attackers we have if the right defenders we’re picked. In the summer McCarthy knew the defence wasn’t quite there so purchased x2 defenders for them to sit on the bench??? A strange decision (which he makes a lot of) In his defence though we don’t see what’s going on behind the scenes on the training ground etc. All these cries for Martin O’Neil please stop he is not the answer he has done well with Celtic mainly so did Strachan and look what happened to him. I also spotted someone say Ray Wilkins REALLY??? I don’t know who would be worth turning to maybe Kenny Dalgleish but that would only happen because Morgan is close with him from the trying to buy Liverpool days. I know whatever happens it’s not looking good for us at all Sunderland next we’ll see what happens ‘When saturday comes’.

Ok, Well, it does amuse me that the happer clappers have disappeared virtually. Maybe the penny has dropped that McCarthy is out of his depth.

Why playe your championship defence? You’ve had 2 years in the premiership and nearly £40 million spent, and yet you play your championship defence?

Why drop Milijas, arguably one of only 3 or 4 genuinely premiership quality players?

Why dont you play your record signing up front alongside doyle, where you bought him for?

I said before the game to go 4-4-2 but bizarrely you go 4-5-1 and drop your only truely creative midfielder to play your old championship favourites.

Why? because you are a championship manager hopelessly out of your depth at this level.

Please, go now and give us a chance of staying up.

It’s probably a bit premature to start talking about changing managers.
However the 3rd round transfer window/FA Cup exit/sacking season is getting closer every week.
Results need to improve pdq or the season will be written off by the owner, and there will be nothing to be lost in making a short term change. It might even shake the players up.
What perplexes me about MM a former international centre back, is the number of sub-standard defenders we’ve signed during his tenure. Veteran Jody Craddock, essentially baggage from the Dave Jones’ era who MM tried to off-load to Stoke, still features as our best and most consistent defender. How can this be?

Good suggestion. Mick needs someone authoritative to help him out, although I think that maybe Kenny Dalglish might prefer going to Liverpool’s games.

Trouble is, I don’t think listening is Mick’s forté, but I’d like Steve Morgan to try this approach (ASAP). Mick might resign, or he just might find that it helps him to become the successful manager we’d like him to be.

Take a look at yourselves, Wolves fans.

Anyone that went to Blackpool on Saturday would have been hugely impressed by a home support that cheered and chanted support for 90 minutes.

The negativity that surronds Wolves from a noisey minority has been compounded by a media campaign highlighting our tackling (Henry booked for his only foul on Saturday).

Confidence on the pitch has been eroded and now we are facing relegation.

A change of manager will cause further disruption and unless we bring in a top manager then change will not work.

Get behind the team, support the club.

Those on here who are now suggesting Ray Wilkins as a future manager should remember that his previous forays in that position were not that successful. I like him a lot but see him as what he was, a number two, a valuable advisor and confidente. He had a great career but we all know that does not guarantee top managerial qualities. Many on here are unhappy and fearful of the future and MM is being slagged off, but I am going to stay behind him for the foreseeable future – so I guess I will now be slagged off too.

You are completely out of touch with Wolves fans and the club.

Negativity is created by the manager. If we were flying in the league there wouldn’t be any. But the fact is we are joint bottom of the league, with a manager that has spent huge amounts of money and then plays basically a championship defence.

I’m sorry you can’t see this, but I would suggest that you concentrate on being a fan rather than every week criticising everyone who doesn’t agree with you.

Don’t forget we went up with a whimper. From Jan 09 onwards we were pretty poor. McCarthy kept talking about how the pressure wasn’t affecting us, and if anything it was these comments that was creating the pressure on the team. We only really went up because Reading and Blues also dropped off. If you look at the 08/09 DVD, the defending from what is almost the current defence, featuring Foley, Stearman, Berra, Ward, was appalling.

Just look at MM’s stats in the Prem. Enough is enough, he should have gone when he made the 10 outfield changes last season against Man Utd.He lost the plot then and he’s got even worse this season. He is too stubborn, has his favorites players who are as usless as him. Plays players out of position all the time, can’t make tactical substitutions, brings on players with 5 minutes to go,when the game is already lost, any players who show any good form like Milijas and Ebanks Blake get dropped so he can play negative formations ie one up front against Blackpool, pleeeeease what a joke.
You can tell by the look on the players faces that they are not enjoying their football, they look confused because they don’t know what they are supposed to be doing, as he keeps swapping and changing all the time, why do you think any real top class prem players won’t come to Wolves? Well because they know that MM is tactically useless and too thick pig headed to change.
So Morgan you was with the Wolves fans yesterday at Blackpool, why don’t you start listening to what the majority of the fans are saying and sack him now, surely you can see that we are going down with this management team. Please please please grow some balls and sort it out, unless of course your happy playing football in the Chumpionship next season, and if you are then maybe you should be selling our club to someone who has more money and more ambition than you?

The team selection on Saturday was clueless. Foley swapping with Mancienne and Milijas being dropped for Jones was an unbelievable call. Things are looking dire and are we look already doomed. It could be West Ham, Wolves and the Albion for the drop.
What can we do in hope of a must win on Saturday? With current levels of performance do we take a major gamble and go with some kids? Surely Scott Malone, Danny Batth and John Gorman can do better than some of the first team.
My big moan was also that Blackpool Football Club and the police cannot cope with Premiership football. Fans queueing in their droves 10 minutes prior to kick off and then most missing our customary first goal against in a tinpot stand is not good!

    Completely out of touch?

Can you explain the South Bank singing in unison ‘Super Mick McCarthy’ at ALL home games this season?

Were you in the away fans only pub on Saturday? I was and didn’t hear many cries of McCarthy out? even after the game whilst there were boo’s the fans remain split on the McCarthy out debate.

A balanced debate involves more than one opinion.

The debate is still split and I believe the majority want Mick to succeed and will give him until Christmas.

I would rather be a ‘happy clapper’ than consumed with hate for McCarty, Morgan, Moxey, Conner and everything else Gold and Black.

I love going to football home and away.

Win, Lose or Draw I will never boo the team or shout abuse at one of our own players.

No matter who plays, or is our manager, I will always want the team to win.

We have the best manager and play the most entertaining football, we were poor on saturday because we played a poor wolves team. All valid points. On Saturday, I heard some guys muttering, ‘Do you think we can get a McCarthy Out chant going ?’ – and the answer was ‘No, actually’. Even the ‘What a load of rubbish’ at half-time was distinctly half-hearted.
The fact is that although none of our fans are happy, the majority still draw the line at abusing the players and the manager – and most can see that we’ve been unlucky a few times this season.
I see that the committed whiners are now gloating that they were right all along about McCarthy. Unfortunately – even though they’ve been wrong, wrong and wrong again over the last 4 years; even though their glorying in our bad patch is nauseating; and even though their semi-literate abuse is out-of-order – the fact remains that Mick has only a few games to set things straight.
If he doesn’t, then the club should consider alternatives. Either way, if I ever meet the man, I’ll want to thank him, shake his hand and buy him a drink.

Firstly 179. Blackpool fans were only behind the team because they were leading after 3mins and by 2 at half time,..if we were leading 2 nil at half time i suspect just like most fans they would have been a lot more sedate.
    192. I wasnt in the away pub saturday i was in the ground and saw 1st hand the anger directed at MM and it wasnt a minority it was the vast majority,.they left the field to what a load of rubbish at half time and fans where scuffling with police at full time to get on the pitch to vent their anger. MM ‘s shocking team selections and crazy tactics are what people are fed up with, one example MM said you play well you are in the team, Milijas possibly has been our best player the last 4 games so MM drops him for no good reason!!!…I think most would agree that if we played our strongest team available in the right positions we wouldnt be in this mess..and if you think Ward, Elokobi, Henry, Berra, Hunt, Stearman, Mancienne, Bent etc are our strongest we are down end of, we spent 18million in the summer and not one can get a regular start…why???.

The simple truth is we are not doing enough to win games and that why were in a relagation fight. I knew we would struggle today and maybe the penny is beginning to drop with some of wolves fans. WE ARE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE.
Why rest Miljas against a team that plays an open game in a match we have to try to win? Maybe MM went for a draw again like he did against bolton and got nothing.
Perhaps he should have shown the same guts to have a go as we did against chelsea and co.
We have 3/4 “winnable” matches left thisyear and have to win 3 of them to give ourselves a chance.

Many of the teams escaping from the bottom of the table appear to be consistent with the team, making the odd change here and there. Blackpool have proved that point, they still have a fight on to survive but they would appear consistnat with team selection

Can any one explain why the club bring in a player on loan, such as Bent, and not play him? I am not a fan of Bent but one has consider the logic. It must be soul destroying and it is muddling thinking>

For Wolves the rest of the season is not going to easy, it is a side who know only how to lose and MM must take that responsibility, I believe that Wolves were fortunate to survive last season. Do not chide the players, Hennessey was a victim of a defence that failed him throughout his time in the team last year.
