Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Wolves 0 Arsenal 2
Wednesday 10th November 2010, 10:00PM GMT.
It was a familiar story as Wolves played some superb football against top-four opposition only to go down to another gallant defeat.
Two goals by Marouane Chamakh at the very start and end of the game didn’t even begin to tell the story.
It was a match marred by a late tackle by Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas on Stephen Ward, which saw the left-back stretchered off with a gashed shin and the Gunners skipper booked.
But even a seventh defeat in the last nine games failed to take the gloss off another polished display from Mick McCarthy’s men, who dominated the second-half and peppered the Gunners goal.
Karl Henry, Richard Stearman, Kevin Foley, Stephen Hunt, Nenad Milijas, Kevin Doyle and Christophe Berra were either denied by the heroics of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski or went desperately close to scoring after the break.
But Wolves, who have now suffered 11 straight defeats to Arsenal going back to 1982, made the worst possible start after conceding with just 37 seconds on the clock.
For all Arsenal’s renowned fancy football, it was a goal of some simplicity.
Chamakh had too much time to head home after pulling away from Stearman to meet Alex Song’s right-wing cross.
Coming so early, the goal momentarily knocked the stuffing out of Wolves and it took time for McCarthy’s side to get back into their stride.
They weren’t helped by the eighth minute departure of midfielder David Edwards, with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, which forced the earlier than anticipated arrival of Hunt, who had dropped to the bench for the return of Michael Mancienne.
It almost got worse before it got better for Wolves as goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann was forced into two blocks which could have put the game beyond the home side’s reach.
His first job was to spare Stearman’s blushes after the defender gave the ball away to Andrei Arshavin, who sped towards goal only to be denied in a one-on-one by the American, who stood up well.
Then Hahnemann denied Fabregas’ first-time effort after the Arsenal captain started the move himself wide on the left after Stearman diverted away Arshavin’s centre.
But, having weathered the storm, Wolves worked their way into the game.
Milijas had Wolves’ first on-target effort in the 25th minute with a 30-yard drive that was easy for Fabianski, who wore a bizarre kit of bright pink shirt and socks.
Four minutes later, Wolves went desperately close to an equaliser when Doyle’s twisting header looped just over the bar from Milijas’ free kick.
Wolves caused problems again when Jarvis’ cross had Fabianski at full stretch to paw away with Hunt waiting to pounce.
The home side started the second-half at a good tempo and Milijas was only denied a goal from point blank range from Bacary Sagna sliding in following Jarvis’ cross.
But Wolves were their own worst enemy when Stearman, who had an erratic game after his Man of the Match performance on Saturday, needlessly presented the ball to Tomas Rosicky, who teed up Fabregas to rifle inches wide.
However, McCarthy’s men were in no mood to surrender and they swept upfield to keep Arsenal pinned in.
Henry, who got forward much more than usual with Mancienne sitting in front of the back four, arrowed a shot across the face of goal from a tight angle, before Doyle’s rising left foot shot on the turn was tipped over by Fabianski at full stretch.
Then Stearman couldn’t convert from two yards out, Rosicky clearing off the line when the ball hit the defender’s knee.
Man of the Match Foley headed fractionally over from Hunt’s free kick, before the latter glanced wide himself.
Arshavin hit the post in a rare Arsenal foray on the break but Wolves returned to the attack.
Milijas and Doyle drilled inches wide before Fabianski pulled off a tremendous full length save to deny Berra a first Wolves goa, after the Scot launched a low drive in the third minute of injury-time.
But Chamakh sealed the Gunners’ win in a breakaway in the fourth minute of time added on, when his flick with the outside of his boot beat Hahnemann after the visitors caught Wolves on the break.
It was harsh after another huge effort and impressive performance from Wolves, which surely means it’s only a matter of time before they return to winning ways.

Another night of glorious failure,47 seconds for another goal from the right flank wonder who our full back was?.Will MM ever learn?. Could have been 3 down after 15 but to our credit foughtback superbly.Unfortunately NO CLEAN sheets coupled with 2 against in 7 out of last 8 = Relegation.Mick you have the players put them where they should be Strikers will score goals Strikers will not make left backs.Over to you.

What a sterling performance, but no points again. You couldn’t ask for much more than what they did, we have no luck whatsoever in front of goal, and the second goal flattered Arsenal as we pressed for the deserved equaliser. As much as I think Ward should be dropped I hope the injury isn’t a bad one for the lad. Pressure right on now though, we have to get points from teh next 6 games or it’s all over

If we can perform like this in our upcoming games, we should get a fair few wins. Not many teams can boast more posesion than Arsenal, especially when Arsenal have 12 men with the referee seemingly a gunners fan. Milijas’s passing was fantastic, and mancienne had a good game. Its a shame about the start of the game where we were poor. Maybe things could have been different if Fabrigas had gotten sent off, they almost certainly wouldnt have got their second, as Fabrigas was the man who set up that goal.
If that tackle was from henry, people would have been calling him the dirtiest player in the league. How did the linesman not see it was a horific challenge. Even if that tackle had only been a yellow, Fabregas should have had multiple yellows for impeding our play throughout the game, after all he stopped our free kicks 3 times, Denilson did it once and received a yellow. Arsenal are such a dirty team.
On a different note, i wonder if Blackpool will be punnished for making 10 changes in the game against Aston villa?

1ST Goal was shambolic!!
Once again WARD gave SONG too much space and didn’t even bother closing him down
Then Stearman poor marking, free header.. I thought he had a really bad game and looks like JODY will be back with BERRA on saturday…
ONLY positive to come out of this game was WARD injured hopefully he is out for the season
Report abuse
Stearman & Ward not up to this level.
No attacking left or right back.
Doyle unlucky.
SEB gets 10 minutes- youre having a laugh.
Basically, Micks position to be determined in the next 4 or 5 games if we don’t get any results he surely must go.

Brilliant performance again. If we keep playing like this we will be ok.
But Mick you cannot keep playing mancieene the guy is useless and it’s like playing with 10 men.. Credit to every other single wolves player last night apart from him. And credit to our loyal fans, sang all night and even tho we losed and are in the bottom 2 we gave the players a great reception at the end.
Best and most loyal supporters in the country WWFC and proud.

Same old same old.
Played some good stuff in patches but same old problems, can’t defend, can’t score = relegation!

I have one question; where are the goals going to come from?
Doyle-looks good, doing mostly the right things but cannot score, jinx or whatever but he aint delivering
Fletcher-gone off the boil, not a first pick, missed some sitters, another Scottish international that cant hack it in the prem?
SEB-the overweight supersub, at least his form looks to be on the rise but can we expect double figures from him this season?
Henry/Milijas/Jones etc – almost no goals from midfield, Milijas looks the business at least he isnt scared to take a shot
Jarvis-playmaker, supplier, can we expect him to carry the load for the front line?
Goals from the centre halves(Craddock/Berra etc)-not happening this season, Craddocks spooky goal form last year is a distant memory, Berra couldnt hit a barn door
Kightly – maybe if we can get him back soon
Hunt- is it just me or is this guy crap? I reserve judgement as he is just back after a long spell out, granted some nice touches but he bottles out of a lot of tackles and his distribution is awful
So MM, where are the goals coming from? As the article says great football but 7 in 9 defeats..

to play devils advocate, yes we have played well granted, but if your through on goal against arsenal or bolton you still have to put the ball in the net and im affraid kd who is quality aint no seb. and mm has 5.5m worth of defenders on the bench but still plays ward and take your pick from the 2 cb’s. i feel a long winter on the cards.

Rewind to the start of this four game stint, if someone told me we would get three points from the four games playing some good football and giving all four a run for their money, I would have bit your arm of. We need to take this form and unleash it on the rest if the league. Next 6 games we need a minimum of 10 points or it is fizzy pop for us next year.

Unless we are able to cut out the one (or two or three) silly defensive mistakes that are made almost every match, there is a severe risk that we will continue to lose matches we should have drawn (at least) and draw matches we should have won (not too many of the latter so far this season, though). Having said that, we have produced quite a few scoring opportunities in the past few matches despite playing Doyle as a lone striker, and against lesser teams (we won’t meet a full-back with the qualities of Sagna again for a while…, there is reason for hope, IF performances are kept at this level,

yes spirited performance and plenty of opportunities, by players who very rarely score.
31 Years & 11 Matches since beating Arsenal.
Lost six of last 8 matches
We had nothing to lose last night and what do we do, pick a defensive team, Mancienne? leading strikers on the bench, late subs again, give goals away at each end of the game.
What does SEB have to do?
Like all the teams we have played they attack down the right, Mick dosen’t either see or want to see,
Henry has learnt nothing should have been sent off, we would have been down to 10 men again, and certain defeat.
There were 5 players on the bench who should have started this game, we could have had a right go at them, will someone please tell me what the man is doing.
The longer we leave these players kicking their heels, the longer it will take us to start winning.
Fabregas should have been sent off, I hope Ward is okay, as much as he shouldn’t be in the team I don’t like to see any of our players injured.

come on guys its not all doom and gloom !!
we have got 3 more points from these games than we thought we would !!
and lets face it -late goals aside we have played fab !!!
hopefully ward is injured and cant play sat and things will look alot better and the team more solid – i dont mind elokobi or jelle
its the next 8 games that make or break our season !!! i think we need four wins from the 8
if we play like we have in the last 5 then rolls on the good times !!!!

I think one or two on here are in for a shock,,the run up to Christmas is going to be far from easy,Bolton,Blackpool and Sunderland are going to be looking at us as one of their easy games,,we cant hurt them because we cant score goals..I come away last night thinking Bully would have had a hat full,is he still fit???

Come on doubters compare this performance to the same game last year. Last night we looked like a team from the same league last year we weren’t on the same planet. Yes there were some failings but there were so many positives. Passion, quick pass delivery, well-timed and clean tackles and bearing in mind we are playing one upfront we created enough chances to win – just have to take them!I really think that this augers well for the rest of the season and a good position come the end.

#4 – what a disgusting comment! Yes we know Ward is not good enough but he tries his best and he is being picked to play!Out of position! Support him instead of slagging him!
#6 – did you not watch the same match last night? Mancienne one of our best players!
I do agree we need SEB to start! But we have got to keep the faith with the team and get behind them! It was a fantastic atmosphere last night and it really urged the lads on so lets see more of it and get behind the lads on Saturday!

Bolton, Blackpool and Sunderland next would be nice to get 5/6 points over those games. I do think we’re being a bit harsh after all we we’re playing Arsenal there a very good team and we did match them but for some bad look didn’t get a goal. The run of the big boys is over and time to claim some points. I’d like to see Fletcher given the chance to play the lone striker role he scored more goals than Doyle last year in a team that was relegated. If anything good come out of last night i belive Ward is injured (he’s not a premier league defender)

4 – You’re a complete idiot and you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.

Before anyone gets carried away i wish the guy well i hope he isn’t hurt. Just don’t like that he’s being picked over proper left backs. HE’S NOT ONE. FACT!!!

No.4 Wolvo Wolf, you should be ashamed of yourself hoping that a Wolves player is out for the season.
I am not a Ward fan and do not think he should be in the starting 11 however say we had injuries to other potnetial left backs and needed him to play we would have no one.
On the game and the media and premiership in general my main beef is the hypocrisy of it all, Fagregas makes a bad chanllange it’s not only not a sending off but no big deal. The ref in my opinion had a good game last night but should have clamped down on Arsenal standing over our free kicks, moaning and diving a little earlier and should have had the balls to send of Fabregas, but on the whole let the game flow as much as possible.
Then there is the Blackpool 10 changes, the upraor last season after Man U was way over the top and now the same people in the papers and on radio are saying it’s fine for Blackpool to do it.
Onwards and upwards and if we keep putting in performances like the last few weeks the results should come over the next 7 games. If we don’t I will begin to worry big time.
Conceding almost half our goals in the last 15 mins. What happens in the last 15 minutes? The balance of the side is shaken up by late substitutions. Extra defenders or extra attackers.
I didn’t for a moment think Fabregas was trying to charge down the ball but there was a clear trade-off of complimentary quotes between MM and Wenger at the end.
4 – Horrific comments, seriously.
16 – Shouldn’t you change your name to The Flying Whinger ??
When was the last time you heard Wenger come out after a game and say Arsenal were lucky ? We did all we could and created far more chances than most team will against them this season.
Re Ward – More simplistic bashing of the guy. If he’s at fault – I will happily criticise him, but come on, Milijas let his man turn him and sprint away, into our half. The ball goes out wide and Ward has two men coming at him with Jarvis struggling to make it back to cover. Even a seasoned left back would have struggled to have dealt with that threat. We lost the ball cheaply and were punished by slack marking in the box.

i sat in the south bank last night which was the 1st time ive been since stoke. the second half performance wasnt bad but my overall concern is the pre match build up. or lack of it. i could have gone to sleep before the game and didnt even realise the players were on the way out. as a past season ticket holder at the wolves i remember every game the atmosphere when the teams came out was loud and daunting. yesterday nothing. maby crank the speakers up and put some decent music on!!! on to the performance i thgought 1st half was dismal, boring and lacked creativity. second half was much better but still not the greatest. 4-5-1 at home, seb top scorer and in form but still not being picked, and as for the defence it isnt worthy of league 1 never mind the prem. needs to be sorted soon or theres only 1 direction for wolves!!

not going to bitch about the result our players or our performance.but how on earth did that petulant arrogant snivelling piece of spanish filth stay on the pitch if that had been a wolves player he would of certainly been sent off.no respect for the officials continually showing dissent and disregard for the rules of the game. A good performance, however goals win games and you didn’t score, watching it Arsenal could have been out of sight after 15 minutes so you need to factor that into your assessment of the game. The Fabregas tackle was a straight red no question however what seems to have gone unmentioned was the Millijas stamp on Sagna i think on the halfway line which was also a straight red yet not even a booking. So these things do tend to even themselves out.

Come on Alex, take off those gold tinkered specs.Ward was caught out because he was in no-man’s land(as he frequently is)gave the winger plenty of space/time to deliver the killer cross,Nothing to do with Jarvis,Ward is a good honest pro but LEFT BACK he will never be.
Whilst the positives were that we created many chnaces, and were very unlucky not to get a point, there are many causes for concern also.
Mancienne – dreadful, gave the ball away more often than not, I’d love to see his OPTA stats from the game.
Ward – not good enough, but we know this.
Stearman – has been fantastic recently, but was well at fault for the goal and was lucky not to be at fault for a 2nd.
In general some of the passing was embarrassing as well in the first half, where confidence was clearly lacking.
The big fear is that the margins are tight, we never lose big, but the margns never fall on our side. Its really hard being a Wolves fan at this moment.
4 You clearly do not have a brain!! I can only assume you made the comment re Ward to wind people up??
I do not think that Ward should be playing at left back, but week in and week out he puts a shift in playing in a position foreign to him, because thats where the Manager wants to play him.
Stop picking on the players when its the Manager and his team that pick them!!
Re the result well honestly its what was expected albeit a spirited fight once again. However the proof is in the pudding and quite clearly 9 points from a possible 36 is not good enough. I appreciate we have had a very tough last few games but unless we start a winning streak, starting with the game against Bolton then I fear our days in the Prem are numbered.
What scares me even more is that if we do go down in all likely hood we will lose Jarvis, Doyle and the rest of the best!!!!!

27 Shame you cannot come up with something more original.
Along with some others you forget that the idea of this blog is to air you own opinions.
My posts do always contain some ideas if you care to read them, and whilst we keep losing, making strange decisions, have players sent off for bad tackles, I will continue to make them.
Malta – sorry, I disagree, and I dont appreciate your condescending tone. We can have different opinions without one of us wearing ‘tinted spectacles’.
I have criticised Ward on here on numerous occassions, and will again if he’s at fault, but I will stick up for him, if, in my opinion, he’s been left exposed.
Why is nobody questioning Milijas losing the ball and being turned too easily inside the Arsenal half ? Not only that, but then fails to track back properly. If that had been Henry, people would be ripping him for it – but Milijas is flavour of the month on here at the moment.
If Ward had gone toward to Sagna, he’d have the full back overlapping with no cover. We’d all then be having a pop at Ward for letting them get behind us, wouldn’t we ?
The point re Ward is that whilst he’s having a tough season, he’s the scapegoat, and if we concede a goal from anywhere on his side of the pitch, even if the final ball comes from the opposition half, its automatically his fault.
At Man Ure, Henry let Park go for the first goal, yet on here its Ward’d fault. For the second Park goal, Ward let him come inside far too easily, but again he had no cover from Fletcher who did exactly what Milijas did last night.

I couldnt watch the game cos I had to go to work at 7am here in Melbourne. But my 14 year old did see it all and was so upset at the end cos he knew Wolves are a true footballing team that need that bit of luck.
How dare wolvowolf wish Ward such injury. Ward has served this club with integrity, loyalty and hard work.
Arsenal’s number 4 was constantly going on at the ref which deserved a yellow in itself. Then the tackle on Ward and just a yellow – unreal.
Mccarthy’s response was top class and confirms Wolves status as a solid distinguished football club.
Wolves forever from wherever we are.

Alex apolgies if i offended you. However yes i watched the match live last night and in my opinion Ward was clearly at fault because he cannot read the game as a proper left back would. How many of goals conceded this season have originated down the right flank?opposing managers have recognised this as a weak link and played their aces there.Clearly there is a lot of hard work all over the team because we cannot keep shipping goals whilst limiting our own chances of scoring with a defensive midfield and only one striker.Would somebody tell MM that you do not have to wait for 80+ minutes before subs can be brought in the fray.
4′ your’e a pratt, not a Wolves fan.
Watched on MOTD and I reckon the first 10 minutes were our worst. After that (what it showed on MOTD) we certainly had more chances at goal and they should consider themselves lucky their keeper was on form which he was. One of the things I like about MM is how straight talking he is in the post match interview about the tackle on ward. Unlike other managers, he wasn’t moaning about it because I reckon when MM was playing it was just a late tackle. Ok, maybe Fabragas
should of walked but was it intentional? However, just imagine the wrath had it been Karl Henry taking out one of theirs in similar fashion? In any event, Aresnal were lucky- we wern’t.

Spend the entire January transfer window after 1 player. Get him wait until he’s fit then drop him and stick Edwards on the wing. Realise your mistake after 5 Mins then decide to waste a sub to rectify it.
Try picking your best team from the start Mick that was an absolute embarrassment no matter who you play. You should get another fine for not fielding your strongest team because you haven’t yet.
I have never criticize Micks until this season because his line up and subs are a joke. You’ve signed a left back to replace Ward/Elokobi yet you refuse to play him there. 7 Million + Iwelumo for a striker yet to play 90 Mins and no longer getting a look in.
Your trademark 80 Minute sub is the biggest joke of them all. All but 2 people in that stadium could see it was time for a sub after 70 Mins. That’s you and Mr Clipboard. Should have been even earlier and move from 451 considering we spent the whole game 1-0 down. Bringing in a striker 10 minutes from the end is pointless. By then everyone is too exhausted to push forward anyway.
We could have won that game and with our players we should be higher up the table. But were not who’s fault is that ??????

Now I’m not the best person to comment as I rarely see much action in Australia, however If you play with one striker (which I assume we are with two widemen) who hasn’t scored, the rest of the team has a huge burden placed upon it. I often read that Doyle ‘put’s in a selfless shift’ time and time again but with few scoring options this deficiency in goals needs to be addressed. Playing upfront alone stifles creativity and link up play which in affect means attacks start from deeper in defence/midfield enabling our opponents more time to find their shape.

The run of tough games is over and a return of 3 points is decent enough. What is most encouraging is the style of play against these sides and the fact that we can consider just taking 3 points as fairly unlucky. Hopefully, that serves as a confidence boost.
So now the hard work starts. We were at least 3 points below par before we played the top 4 and we would expect to pick up at least 7 points from Bolton, Sunderland, Birmingham and Wigan at home. We should be targeting at least 4 points from the trips to Blackpool, Blackburn and West Brom.
So, I reckon we need 11 points from those 7 games as a minimum – and possibly 14 points just to get back on track. This will be extremely hard but I think necessary if we are going to aviod relegation this season.
The excuses for not picking up more than the 3 points we have in the last 4 days can’t apply in the next 7 games – it’s all about the results.
One of my fears is that we’ve only been able to beat teams this season that have the word City in their names. There’s only 3 “city’s” in the prem this season.
I think part of the problem is we’re kidding ourselves. MM needs to see the problems at the back instead of putting defeats down to bad luck. Yes, we had chances to score, but they were generally half chances; Arsenal cut us apart several times and created many chances that really should have been scored. My fear is that MM simply believes our luck will change and will do nothing differently; we had both good and bad luck last night; on another night we might have won this game, but on balance Arsenal created the better chances. We have a run of ‘easier’ games until the end of the year now … its not time for MM to be complacent , he needs to work on our deficiencies and not assume defeats are down to luck alone, I don’t think there’s a team in the prem. we can be complacent against.
Personally, I don’t think MM is complacent.

53 – Skiver.
I have to agree – a number of the goals conceded have been because of defensive errors. Stearman lost his man yesterday for the goal, failed to control a pretty horrible ball played to him to allow Arshavin through on goal and in the second half, played a suicide ‘chip’ that failed to clear the attacker, to allow a run on goal. That’s three errors from one centre half (although I’m being a little harsh on the second one).
That’s not picking on Stearman either – just an example. But we can’t afford to ‘gift’ teams goals when we’re hardly prolific at the other end.
It’s 19 games in all competitions now since our last clean sheet and we’ve only scored 2 goals three times in the last 19 league games.

Come on Wolves!

Maltawolf…and a few others…What you failed to mention about Arsenal’s opening goal was the part Milijas (didn’t) play in it. Well before Ward could get anywhere near Song he had picked up the ball in our half gone round Milijas like a tug going round the Arc Royal and then exposed Ward who couldn’t get near him before he made the cross that left us cold.
As it happens IMO Milijas went on to have a good game, but, his lack of pace and mobility are a worry.
Watching the game on TV in Valletta isn’t quite the same as sitting in the Steve Bull.

maltawolves – Firstly let me say that i think Ward is responcible for allot of our goals conceded this season, and its from a simple lack of defensive knowledge as he doesnt seem to know where to be.
But, for the first goal yesterday, as Alex Rae’s Butler said, Milijas should maybe not have been turned so easily, but more importantly than that, during the wingers attack, you can clearly tell Jarvis is telling ward to back off, I think Jarvis thought he was going to take it to the by line and thought he would catch him up. So personally i think Ward was a tad unlucky, but he is clearly not good enough at left back, and you could argue that an experienced left back would have used his judgment better and either closed down the man, or got into a better position, as it standed, he was positioned in such a way that he wasnt preventing a cross or defending one.
Skiver – Half chances? I lost count of the many times that Arsenal had to clear the ball off the line, at one point they had 4 defenders on the line, stopping one of our shots.Theyre keeper also made some fantastic saves, and probably deserved man of the match. But saying that, thats what defenders and keepers are there for and we need to be able to score goals regardless. Lets just hope other teams defense isnt quite upto it over the coming months.

McCarthy out!!
6 points from last 11 games says it all, we have relegation written all over us.
Face facts, if we have the same manager in charge at the end of january, we are down.
Same old story, conceding early and late goals.

Last November was terrible for us. I can’t see it happening this year with these performances.
Another positive few points – we are not bottom of the leageu, we are only 3 points from safety and have ‘easier’ fixtures for a while after that nasty stage in the season. I doubt anyone thought we would have got any points out of those fixtures, but we got 3!!
Lets now take the good performances and excellent support to Saturday!!!
WE ARE WOLVES!!!!
P.S. – MaltaWolves – where in Malta are you? Coming out to Bugibba next Tuesday. (Not a threat!!!)

Okay, those three games have come and gone and we’ve played well in all of them and got three points, which should have been four.
Now we face a run of games from which we should take points provided we can cut out the individual mistakes and play at the level we have been. I abhor some of the negative posts on here, apart from the goals against, I think we have been entertaining to watch and I think the National press and TV think so too. Now it’s points we need.
It will be very interesting to see what happens with the Blackpool / Holloway situation. They surely cannot ignore his 10 changes after what they did to us and Holloway is threatening to resign if they fine Blackpool. Maybe the FA will do FA (sweet Fanny Adams !) and will use the excuse of the 25 man squads changing things.

Joker Wolf – yes, I watch all games, home and and away.
Yes, Berra had a great shot saved but my point is we can’t really expect him to contribute to the goal tally. Berra goals so far this year is nil.
I think Hunt is a good player and not crap but his distribution and tackle commitment is crap so far. hunt’s goal tally this year is nil.
My question again is where are the goals going to come from?

It would have been a straight red if it was a wolves player who committed the challenge for 2 reasons.
1 – Arsenal are a big team who referees are intimidated by, whether they like it or not They dont want to be slated in the papers the following day by the likes of Wenger and ferguson and co. They dont mind other managers moaning because that isnt back page news generally.
2 – Wolves players and management arent cheats, or actors. If the same scenario would have happend to an arsenal players, theres no doubt that players would have acted as if he was shot sommersalting to the ground and rolling over 50 times, the other 10 arsenal players wouldd have been round the referee brandishing invisible red cards, shouting abuse until they got there own way, and Wenger would have been just as bad. Our players and management never do that, which is a good thing in my oppinions as i have so much respect for them in not cheating, but theres no doubt this hampers our chances of getting decisions.
I watched MoTD yesterday, and was expecting wenger to proclaim he didnt see the tackle, as it happens, his response was a little more dignified, but he didnt state that it was a bad challenge, just that he had spoken to fab, who said it was an accident. Im convinced if it was the other way he would have been fuming that every player is out to get his team, and would have been saying how the same challenge was a career threatening one.
NRB – see what missing a game can do to statistics, 6 from 11 or 9 from 12, just shows that 1 game can make your points look allot healthier. now imagine if we pick up a few wins in these next few games, it could easily be 18 from 15. or even 16 from 15 with 2 wins and a draw, which considering our fixtures seems doable. IF we continue our form.

Just wanted to add my disgust to No 4′s comment – i wouldn’t wish an injury to an opponent let alone a player from my own club – and the poster who suggested he joins the albion obviously knows nothing about how most fans support their team – grow up !!
I saw MM’s post match interview and I thought he SHOULD have condemmed the tackle on Ward but he just used it as an excuse to justify the assault Kark Henry made at Wigan.
If Mick didn’t defend horror tackles by his own players he could critisise when other teams do it – instead whinged on about the stick henry got and didn’t mention Ward once… just my opinion.

While the fabregas challenge was bad the henry tackle was a lot worse and deserves just as much criticism as fabregas.

happy baggie sorry to tell you but commit an assault you need to acctually have to make cntact with somebody karl did slide in late but not dangerous or malicious, put your own house in order before preaching to others.jara’s tackle at blackpool was malicious and spiteful the actions of a true coward

Happy_baggie – Mick has already slated Henrys tackle after the wigan game. He stated it was a bad tackle and it was a clear red. I think his comments was meant less about individual tackles and more about wolves being brandished a dirty team for the tackles we have made. Basically he said, football is about tackles, and yes, sometimes there will be late tackles, but that doesnt mean we should stop tackling. I think Micks statement was the correct one, After all it wasnt Fabs fault he didnt get sent off, it was the officials, and we all know what trouble managers can get into when they have goes at officials, whether its warrented or not.

64,Percy All Wolves matches are shown live at Dionne’s bar Triq-il-Gifen Bugibba.Behind San-Pawl Hotel 61 Cuddly Dudley watching the game live on Tv can often highlight what you cant see sitting in the stands-and yes i do miss the real thing. We all have our own opinions but as most posts on here have stated Ward is not and never will be a competent left back.
48,Alex yes at MU both strikers on as subs in 65th minute which i believe was a good decision, however this was a rarity rather than the norm.

70 – I never meant my comment to be taken badly – but if you think henry made no contact at wigan (or Spurs) you need better glasses mate – the player went higher than Ann widdecombe on a high wire !!!!
As for your comments on jara – I don’t defend his tackle and neither did our manager – but one bad challenge in 20 games aint too bad for a defender is it (didn’t Henry make yet another bad challenge last night too) ???????
71 – yes he said it was stupid,….. but by saying anyone who critisises wolves wants tackling banned leaves him nowhere to go when one of yours gets nobbled.

C’mon now all this number 4 you disgrace behave yourselves now. One guy saying i hope you get injured and can’t work for 7 months. Ward still gets his money because he can’t play doesn’t stp his income plus if he’s out for 7 months for a gashed leg that’s pathetic. Ward is not up to it!!! FACT!!!

67, a red card would not have changed the game it was in the 89th min, we lost the game on the 1st goal, not because they didnt have a man sent off
70, if you watched the game on sky football first it was a horrible tackle, have a look and then decide, henrys was far worse
76, totally agree, i assume number 4 was just saying it in a ”it could be a blessing in disguise” kind of way, think its way over the top all the ”i hope you get what you deserve for christmas wolvo wolf” its a message board guys! Everyone has an opinion
Not that i would wish injury on anyone Ward is not up to the job and i hope Van Damme gets a run of games.
Would love to play 442 and go for it saturday, seb and doyle up front

surely its time for myo to play centre and van to play left back and time to call it a day for mancienne he is completely useless in midfield he spends most of the game running round in isolation hope hunt improves as he gets match fit

As an Arsenal fan – I was impressed at the way Wolves came at us in the 2nd half, and was reminescent at the way you played against Man U (both recent games) – but very clear that you have no goal scorers – Doyle always looks good without ever hitting the back of the net.
Play like that against the non top 4 and you will be ok.
thought it was 50/50 if Fabregas should receive a red – but Henry’s assault on Arshavin was far worse and never got a mention on MOTD or any of the newspapers – and even worse totally ignored by the press. So much for intimidating the ref….good luck for rest of the season.

difficult this… have we saved out best performances for the top teams? think about it?? apart from Man city we have played really well but have been “unlucky” for several weeks now.
Apart from a growing habit of letting in late goals we havent done badly.
The worry for me is that whether we can play as well against the likes of bolton, brum, blackpool, blackburn? anything less and we will rooted to the bottom of the table.
Didnt see the game and I know arsenal are a great team but sounds like we made fabianski who is an average prem keeper look good with a lack of clinical finishing Jaskalinen,Foster, robinson are good prem keepers and wont be beaten easily either.

I do not wish injuries on players, especially not our own, but Ward is not a left back.
McCarthy should take the blame for this opening goal he had defenders on the bench but oh no he puts ‘converted striker’ Ward in there again.
As others have previously expressed, Ward tries hard but is simply not good enough. It is not his fault that MM picks him every week. ( I do personally think that if I was a player however, I would close down earlier and stick to my man a bit more.)
I thought Mancienne had a much better game than normal and we also improved when Hunt came on as he gives us a bit of bite.
I am pleased we haven’t lost touch with the pack above us and a good result tomorrow and we could be out of the bottom three.
