Wolves ended their 11-week wait for a victory with a famous win over moneybags Manchester City.

Mick McCarthy's men staged a spirited comeback at Molineux to defeat City, with goals from Nenad Milijas and David Edwards.

They had trailed to Emmanuel Adebayor's 22nd-minute penalty but Milijas equalised before half-time.

And a fine display by Wolves, aided by a tame effort from City, handed McCarthy's side their first league win since the opening day of the season.

Wolves had to weather an early storm from City with Mario Balotelli twice failing to make the most of good opportunities in the box.

But they looked to have found a foothold in the game when they found themselves behind from the spot.

Jerome Boateng released David Silva, who burst into the box and went down under a naive challenge from Richard Stearman.

Adebayor kept his cool from 12 yards to find the net to the left of goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann.

However, Wolves finally got into their stride and David Edwards twice went close to an equaliser.

First the midfielder saw his looping header from a Matt Jarvis cross turned behind by a flying Joe Hart, then from the resulting corner, taken by Jarvis, Edwards' glancing header hit Hart's right-hand upright.

But they were level on the half-hour when the excellent Jarvis found space on the left and his cross deflected into the path of Milijas on the edge of the box.

The Serbian made no mistake, sweeping home left-footed shot with the diving Hart at full stretch.

Just before City might have regained their lead when Adebayor outjumped Christophe Berra to meet a Balotelli cross but sent a header wide.

It was Wolves who made the running at the start of the second-half and they claimed a deserved lead on 57 minutes with the help of some slopping City defending.

Kolo Toure dealt poorly with a lofted ball into the box by Kevin Foley, it dropped for Kevin Doyle and his shot was parried by Hart into the path of Edwards, who could not miss.

City showed little desire to claw their way back but they did threaten when a shot by Silva was turned around the post by the diving Hahnemann.

James Milner sent a curling shot high and wide and Jerome Boateng fired well over from a half-cleared set-piece.

Adebayor then miscued a shot horribly over the bar after a run and cross by substitute Adam Johnson.
