Karl Henry can make Wolves return with clear conscience

Thursday 28th October 2010, 2:16PM BST.

karl henryIn-form Wolves winger Matt Jarvis today insisted skipper Karl Henry can step back into the Premier League spotlight against Manchester City on Saturday with a clear conscience.

Henry trained with the first team today in preparation for the visit of City after completing a three-match ban for his controversial red-card challenge on Jordi Gomez during the 2-0 defeat at Wigan earlier this month.

The tackle brought to a head one of the hot topics of the season so far – dangerous play – with Wolves cast as the villains of the piece.

But with Henry set for a comeback against City, his team-mate believes the captain has little for which to reproach himself.

“Although it wasn’t a great challenge at Wigan, because of what happened before it has been made even worse – but Karl is not that sort of player,” said Jarvis.

“It was one of those things, a spur of the moment thing and everyone has been jumping on the bandwagon.

“Once you get labelled, it is hard to shake off and that is what has happened.

“You see him last season and the start of this season and he has not been like that at all.

“He gets into challenges and breaks play up but he’s not a dirty player.

“It was noticeable that even a normal challenge from a Wolves player was getting blown up out of proportion.

“But after the performance against West Ham, when there were no ridiculous tackles going in and no stupid yellow cards, I think hopefully it will calm down.”

While Henry has been kicking his heels for three games, Jarvis’ profile has been growing for all the right reasons as he has advanced his case for an England call-up.

A brilliant performance in Tuesday’s 3-2 Carling Cup defeat at Manchester United has whetted the appetite for more against Manchester’s blue club at the weekend.

But, with last week’s 2-0 defeat at Chelsea making it eight games without a Premier League win, Jarvis’ focus is solely on the team.

“We need to start getting points in the Premier League and push ourselves up the table,” he said.

Agreed. That said, if he does it again this season we should loan him out to a team in Siberia.

Not sure he should walk straight back into the starting XI. team has done well in the last couple of games without him, showing much more of an attacking game. Need to continue with this approach

I’d be happy to welcome Henry back but not at the expense of a creative midfielder!

We have to be positive, keep the ball and create chances, so we might actually score.

I’d go with any of these players (taking into account injuries) in this formation v Man City.

    4-3-3

    Hahnemann

    RB – Foley
    CB – Mouyokolo
    CB – Berra
    LB – Van Damme/or Elokobi/or Mancienne – NOT WARD!!!

    RM – Henry/or Mancienne – NOT EDWARDS!!!
    CM – Milijas
    LM – Jones

    RF – Jarvis/or Doyle
    CF – Doyle/or Fletcher
    LF – Hunt/or Jarvis/or Fletcher

Any of the above personnel fit well into a 4-3-3. We don’t have the players to take on a team like Man City or any team for that matter, in a 4-4-2!

By playing with two up front and only two midfielders we look exposed and vulnerable to counter attacks. This is highlighted by the fact we have failed to keep a clean sheet this season!

4-3-3 or a 4-5-1 allows us to pack the midfield and protect the back four but still allows us to create and score goals by playing two wingers in support of a striker.

The problem for us at the moment, is that 4-4-2 doesn’t work and Mick selects his favourites week in week out despite such a poor run of results.

CHANGE THE FORMATION AND PLAYERS AND WE MIGHT START WINNING AGAIN!!!

I for one cant wait to see him back in the team,. ”IMO” i think he makes such a difference to th team, ok i know he’s made a couple of silly tackles. But lets face it you wont ever see Mancienne making those types of tackles? in fact you will be lucky to see him making any tackles? all he does is ‘huffs/puffs about the pitch like a headless chicken doing nowt. At least Karl gets stuck in and wins far more tackles than he loses? and KH has far more better games ,than he does bad games. And again ”IMO” he passes the ball far better than MM, and gets higher up the pitch too,his one-touch passing is far better aswell ( and its NOT all back/sideways ), but lets be fair to Mancienne its NOT him who chose to play there? it was MM who said he can play ‘anywhere’ like he told a few others who you dont need me to tell you who they are. Who are also like ‘fish’ out of water in their positions?.UTW:

I’d love to see him come back and kick Tevez up in the air…… Gareth Barry also to be fair!!!

Jarvis is right though, we can’t keep going through too many more games where the comments after are, ‘Wolves played well but lost’…

Jarvis was immense on Tuesday, so was Foley and Sylvan I thought… Still cant understand the changes with 10 minutes left that Mick did, but who knows what is going on in his head at times!

Surely the team stays the same.We hear a lot of Managers saying that teams need a run where players are concerned to get used to each other and the way Wolves have played the last couple of games I see no reason to change.Henry should have to wait for his chance. The only problem Isee is McCarthy picking his son and blue eyed boys.

Problem is that he has made a name for himself now after that ‘challenge’ at Wigan – both with referees and opposing players.

Any challenges he makes in or around our area will more likely be penalised – making it and him a greater liability.

He may have a clear conscience but as well as possible costing us points at the DW with making us play with 10 men for so long, it could well cost us more points for the reasons I’ve outlined above.

He should not walk back into the team, last season when he was out we played our best football.

However if he is selected I hope he has learned from the last few weeks, and also will pass the ball forward, stop arguing with the refs and lead the team.

As I have said before we do no have a true leader on the field, as we have had in past teams and with the Manager making poor subs etc, I do not see how we are going to get out of the trouble we are in.

I could also not understand why Milijas didn’t play against UTD, if he needs more games it was the ideal opportunity for him

was great last season and one of my faves, but this season this reckless side is one he wont shake off in a hurry, teams like Arsenal will be looking to exploit this and as my villa mate said after that challenge, he’s a marked man now.
I hope he’s learnt to be more forward thinking whilst out of the team, if i see another backwards pass when there are options to attack i’ll …..

Karl Henry has to come straight back in the side alongside Milijas. These two should ‘sit’ side by side infront of our back four. There should be no place for Mancienne who is just not good enough and don’t even start me on David Edwards who is a total waste of space.
We are not going to able to play through the middle of the Man City defence and their defensive midfielders so we need to get the ball out to Jarvis and Hunt at every opportunity.

Most bloggers on here I am sure would agree that our manager might be the problem and not the players. How often do you see a change of manager make a huge impact on results?
It is time for change as MM has taken our club as far as he can. Lets get someone in who knows how to manage at this level.

He better learn his lesson. Henry was not missed at Chelsea at all but Mancienne and Jones cost us on Tuesday. They lost the ball and at times were jogging back. Milijas was the best central midfielder on show for Wolves last Saturday and better be picked, or it’s a travesty.

Tha.nks to the managers subs we lost to M.Utd.He took blake off who played very well in a slightly withdrawn position which upset the utd. defence. But when he took the the man off who was running riot and put another c.forward on was the last straw, that meant he had 3 centre forwards on which never works because the balance of the team is thrown out.Hehasn’t got a clue about tactics.OldWolf

Tomwolf, Mancienne doesn’t make those tackles because he has a football brain which he uses, rather than Henry, often referred to as a crab, because he can only snap at heels, and when he does get the ball he shoves it sideways.

He should NEVER have had the Captains armband in the first place, compare his leadership to Ince and tell me the reason why he should be Captain

    BIG NASTY

Ok i suggest you all watch the goals we conceded to Man U kids team! Mancienne was mostly behind play when they countered quickly, leaving our defence very exposed. No effort was made by Mancienne (or Jonah for that matter, although his role was more offensive)to chase back, put in a tackle/pressure/break play up/foul, instead he sauntered around ball watching!! Henry is our best player in that position without a shadow of a doubt. The job he does for ‘the team’ is an important one, albeit one which can be misconstrude by those without a footballing brain. And on a personal note, I don’t give a f**k if teams/press think we’re dirty. We need to keep getting stuck in, making it difficult for teams to pass thorugh us, counter quickly with balls on the deck and into feet and generally show they same kind of resolve that steered us to safety last season. That, my gold & black chums, is the receipe for success!!

The tackle at Wigan was awful, and he’s served his punishment, but, he’s a local lad, cost 100k from Stoke, and if played in a five man midfield with Milijas and Jones will be a superb player for us.

    Its simple WINS are required.
That means we cant play DOYLE,WARD,HENRY.
DOYLE because he does not score, and wolves become a kick the ball in the air side,so DOYLE can chest it.
Ward as he is not good enough in this league.
Henry with him in the side we lose creativity, the proof is in the pudding, the last two games without him we have created more than in the whole season.
One can also say that the seb/fletcher combo in the second half produced threat and menace to the opposition, which we have not had all season.Again another reason for DOYLE to be left out for the time being till he realises along with mick he as to score especially when the team play one man up front.I can guarantee give the role to seb/fletcher and they will score, but they would have to be given the same game time and backing like doyle gets for not getting the results.
